Munkacser Rebbe To Travel To Munkatch, Ukraine


In honor of the Bar Mitzva of a grandson in conjunction with the dedication of the Groisse Beis Medrash in Munkatch.

This coming Sunday, 28 Adar2, hundreds of Munkatcher Chassidim will depart JFK airport in New York for the first leg of the journey to the historic town of Munkatch, or as it is known today, Mukachevo, Ukraine. The purpose of the trip is to celebrate the Bar Mitzva of Alter Yecheskel Horowitz, grandson of the Munkatcher Rebbe Shlit”a, as well as the re-dedication “Groisse Beis Medrash” of the city Munkatch.

The group will be traveling to Lviv (Lemberg), Ukraine where they will be met by the groups from Eretz Yisroel and England. After the recitation of “Yom Kippur Kotton” of Erev Rosh Chodesh Nissan, they will board busses and head to the town of Sassov, resting place of the the Munkatcher Rebbe’s grandfather and namesake, the rebbe R’ Moshe Leib of Sassov zy”a. The following day, the group will travel to Kamarna and Ziditchov where they will daven at the gravesites of the Holy Tzadikim. The Rebbe Shlit”a and the entire group will then travel to their primary destination – Munkatch.

Wednesday, 2 Nissan is slated to be a most memorable and historic day for all of the groups participants as well as for Munkatcher Chassidim worldwide. The day will start with Shachris in the Bais Medrash Ohel Rochel, situated in the historic courtyard of the Rebbes of Munkacs, adjacent to the former home of the Holy Minchas Elozor ob”m. At midday, the Rebbe Shlit”a accompanied by the entire entourage will enter the Ohel (maousoleum) of the Holy Rebbes of Munkatch in the Munkatch cemetery where they will recite Tehillim and daven for yeshuos for all of Klal Yisroel.

The “Chanukas Habayis Ceremony” together with the Seudas Bar Mitzva of the Rebbe’s grandson will take place immediately after Mariv with the participation of hundreds of Chasidim, as well as hundreds of local Jews from Munkacs and the entire region. Rabbonim and dignitaries from Ukraine and Hungary will grace the dais. The Chanukas Habayis is expected to be a most memorable event which will be etched in the memories of all those lucky enough to witness it.

Thursday morning, following the Hanochas Tfillin in the former home of the Minchas Eluzer ob”m, the group will begin the journey home on a special Charter flight from nearby Uzghorod back to New York.

  1. What’s with the dates in this article? Is it “this coming Sunday” that the Rebbe is going, or is it “28 Adar 2”? It can’t be both!
