Meah Shearim: Police Have Photo of ‘Anesthetizing Bandit’

bandit.jpgPolice finally have a photo of the man being labeled the ‘anesthetizing bandit,’ a villain who enters a store and tells the storekeeper, “You appear weak and pale, perhaps have a drink,” at which time he pours the man from his bottle in a gesture of kindness.

The problem is when the storekeeper awakens, he finds his pockets and cash register have been emptied.

The bandit has lately concentrated on the Geula and Meah Shearim neighborhoods of Yerushalayim, modifying his approach somewhat. In the chareidi areas he enters and says “I get a mazel tov. My grandson had a bris yesterday. Have a l’chaim with me”. After the store owner awakens, the real motive behind the l’chaim becomes painfully apparent.

In one of the recent robberies in Yerushalayim, in a luggage/handbag store, the man was photographed by a closed circuit camera, providing police with a concrete lead.

The man is clean-shaven and wears a large black velvet yarmulke. Police are confident the yarmulke is part of his routine and are doubtful that he is indeed frum.

Anyone with any information is requested to call ‘100’ with facts that may lead to his apprehension.

i’m no rav but i think it’s nonsense, if he’s not stopped he could use poison or other stuff dangerous to people. I think this falls into the category of HABO LEHOGOCH

  2. In what context would anyone consider such a perpetrator “frum?”

    ANSWER:
generally the term “frum” is used to mean what the torah considers a shomer torah (wine not yayin nesech, good shechita, etc…) IE not a mumar lkol hatorah. according to the halachah being a thief does not render one a mumar lkol hatorah kulah. at most this would make him a mumar ldovar echad, ltai’ovon. he would still be frum.
ONLY a heretic OR an oved avoida zarah OR a mechallel shabbos bfarhesya can be rendered a mumar lkol hatorah kulah without actually transgressing all mitzvos.

  3. I wonder if the term ‘Troll’ is still in flourish.
In any case, you all should learn to recognize
or suspect a troll before jumping on your keyboard.
