Israel Air Force Commander Major-General Amir Eshel has spoken out, expressing concern over the size of Syria’s arsenal. Eshel released a statement “The IAF is ready to act almost immediately, without restrictions. Syria has a vast weapons arsenal, some of which being state- of-the-art.”
Addressing an event marking the 10th anniversary of the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster in which Israel’s first astronaut Colonel Ilan Ramon was killed, the senior commander stated “the faltering rule of neighboring nations results in greater exposure to hostilities against us, with Syria being a prime example. He added the spectrum of rival nations that pose concerns today has increased significantly.
“Syria is undergoing tectonic changes. Given its massive arsenals, Israel may find itself dealing with non-conventional weapons on its borders he explained. He added that the threats facing Israel range “from knives to nuclear weapons.”
The air force commander acknowledged Israel continues to monitor the situation, particularly pertaining to the chemical weapons, realizing the ramifications of such weapons falling into the hands of Hizbullah or other Islamic fundamentalist terror organization.
