Nothing makes for achdus like budgetary concerns and once again, Shas and Yahadut HaTorah have sent a unified message to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu regarding the state budget. They explain that if monthly child allowances are targeted, they will break from the coalition.
The draft 2013 budget was presented to the prime minister last week for review. Chareidi lawmakers began using their contacts in the hope of learning about the budget, and it appears there are drastic cuts planned that would significantly cut the monthly child allowances, which are critical for chareidi homes which in many cases cannot afford to lose this allowance.
Shas, Degel and Agudah faction members met in an emergency meeting, reaching the decision that in budgetary meetings, they will present as a united bloc in the hope of using their political muscle to save the monthly allowances. After all, they feel their 16 votes in Knesset is significant.

Do the frum parties realize that defunding the frum community is seen by most non-frum Israelis (i.e. those who run the country) as something to be aspired to? Are they daring the hilonim politicians to unite for what they agree on is the common good (not funding Hareidim). In all fairness, Likud, Kadima and Labor have more in common with each other than with any of the Jewish parties.
