TBB: Thank you, I was really scared. I could never know, I was down in some other areas, it’s a total war zone out there. I glad it’s not flooding, it’s pretty catastrophic to have one’s home, memories, indeed self, just flushed out like that. ???? ??’ ?? ???.
ZeesKiteParticipant.. and you should put down your shoe, I mean your foot about it.
I mean could you imagine a shoe store assistant not assisting in storing shoes. Or a shoe store assistant not shooing a store assistant. Or a shoe store assistant not storying a shoe assistant.
A mazel s/he doesn’t work in the sock department otherwise we’d have him/her socking and sacking socks stocks and stockings.
ZeesKiteParticipantWhiteberry: The OP was referring to overhead wires downed. Actually, overhead wires which carry a strong voltage, current goes through even regular insulation. That’s why the’re always kept apart, the stronger the current the further the wires must be kept apart from arcing. I don’t think there are power cables under the ocean, only data signal, which carry less current. Why birds and squirrels don’t get electrocuted, is because they don’t complete the circuit, they’re not in contact with ground, or grounding circuit.
ZeesKiteParticipantJosh, that’s a selective compliment, actually I have no memory.
Now to the issue, I was referring to the din, the law, the concept of how it was given by HaShem in His Torah. When and if there was a need, if Beis Din had definite and decisive evidence that one transgressed on a capital crime sin, than they were mechuyav, bidden, to mete out punishment. ???? ???? ?? ???. Again, when the Torah warrants punishment, then there’s no cause for (misplaced) mercy. ?? ????? ?? ??????? is said about one who felt it too harsh to kill out an entire nation. ?? ???? ????, we know where it led. So again, ultimate and true rachmanus, is where and when the Torah says.
ZeesKiteParticipantJosh, dirty water is a better conductor?
ZeesKiteParticipantCorrect Farrocks.
Charles, where the Torah commands us to kill someone, or AN ENTIRE CITY, that is the ultimate mercy, ???? ?? ?????, is said after properly killing out an ??? ?????. We base out values on Torah Hashkafah, not on western society’s “gemutlichkeit”.
ZeesKiteParticipantDo what I did. I took the Manhattan Bridge to the Holland Tunnnel, filled up and made an about face. There is NO PROBLEM there whatsoever!! NONE! No lines, enough gas, enough gas stations.
ZeesKiteParticipantBe careful! You could be BANNED from the CR for thinking such thoughts. Remember the rules:
XIIXXIIVV sub VXIIVVXX – DO NOT REQUEST TO BE A MOD…
ZeesKiteParticipantWhat is the first time in history there was a round table discussion?
ZeesKiteParticipantIced: Look up in Gemarah and commentaries.
Farrocks: I think it would be permitted, because they’re making him be a pasul, and they are believed at that.
ZeesKiteParticipantGlad to see some people “chap”..
ZeesKiteParticipantYou could always write it here. (oops, I just unBumped..)
ZeesKiteParticipantDoes anyone know which license plate counts, the front or the back?
ZeesKiteParticipantUnBump
ZeesKiteParticipantIced: Read sources, it’s not mentionable here, in our hallowed YW CR.

Actually I think gemarah says when witnesses see enough to assume etc. ???????? ?? ????? ???? ???????

Let me add one more thing (I can’t really make out what you’re getting to).
The reason they lost their power, the reason some Gedolom could not help in those terrible year, is because HaShem so directed. He (for His reasons) brought an erae of “edan d’ruscha”, of great fury, anger and specifically recalled all powers to mitigate it. A similarity to it is the time of the Churban, where medrash says that great men who know the power of “Sheimos”, holy incantations, were thwarted by a direct gezaira from HaShem (he changed the duties of His malachim). So yes, they were great men, they truly had powers of Ruach HaKodesh before and after, it’s a G-d given gift to those who earn it (????? ????? ???? ??? ?????), it’s just that HaShem is the ultimate Boss, at His command every thing ceases.
??? ???? ???? ????? ???? ??? ???? ?
ZeesKiteParticipantI am also not learned, so please be patient with me too.
(1)..a basic concept.. There’s no “concept” here. Torah says in one instance of adultery to stone the transgressors. A law, din, like any other 613 one of them,
(2)..Is it Halachik.. Yes, when two witnesses come before sanhedrin of 23 and testify, and a host of other criteria are met, then beis din must act. In the case where stoning is required, they are directed to execute it. Not all cases of adultery warrant stoning, though.
(3)..why is this not inplace today?..Because we do not have sanhedrin today.
(4) ..at what point was it halted?.. I think at the destruction of the Bais HaMikdash (actually I think a bit before).

I don’t think this is the right thread for it but let me try.
I think I actually once answered you on this particular question.
Let me try again.
There are two answers.
1)There were Tzadikim years before the churban saying (as we know now) “ofene nevua” – explicit, crystal-clear prophesy foretelling of the future doom and destruction about to visit Klal Yisroel. (I think Meshech Chochma, Reb Elchonon, many Chasidishe Rebbes.) They spoke openly. They saw the future as if in a book. And they spoke about it. Why they didn’t explicitly direct the masses to America? Again, good question. And the good answer is, that America in those days was (and was most certainly viewed as) a complete spiritual Holocaust. So, as in the times of old, they chose to stay (and die) as Yidden rather then to give up Yiddishkeit. Take a look for yourself. I myself don’t know numbers. But I’m told that this place was FLOODED with Yidden back then. In all of the forty-nine states of good old America. EVERYWHERE. Where are their children? I have chance of vising the “borsch belt”. Almost every second elderly person I meet is a YID. Right. Not a practicing one. Certainly not their children. I’m sure you’ve heard of the “taleisim and tefilin thrown overboard in the east river”. Yes, whoever wasn’t completely prepared, and ready to swim against the tide completely assimilated. So the Baalie Ruach HaKodesh were most certainly justified for not directing and sending their flock to total spiritual oblivion.
2)For others (for whatever HaShem’s reasoning), even real true baalei Ruach Hakodesh, HaShem chose to remove their power. ????? ???? ????? ????? ?????? ?????, that was real. We find that true Tzadikim couldn’t even help themselves, they “felt” the “hester panim”, the disappearance of the closeness and attachment to HaShem. Rabbi Miller ??”? says that was ??? ???? ??? for ridiculing and disparaging Gedolim. So HaShem says “You can do without them? Let’s see.” Those are his words, or something to that effect.
ZeesKiteParticipantBesides – Look who started it. Have any complaints?
ZeesKiteParticipantabcd2:
1) This thread was created long, way long before Sandy was thinking about making an appearance here. About one year ago. All one participant did was to “Bump” it, which I suspect you did the same, BY FURTHER POSTING (and so am I).
2) So maybe the hurricane made genaivas daas from this old thread. I was here first.
3) People who remember this thread from a year ago, knew what to expect. Said poster is only “reminding us”.
4) People who frequent the hallowed walls of this Yeshiva World Coffee Room generally know what to expect.
5) I wouldn’t think you come here to seek refuge from “the crisis”
6) “May Hashem only grant us Simchas” – You gotta start. Smile. Make others smile. Of course we have to help out and feel for another. But that doesn’t mean to stop the world. No need to put anyone who attempts to smile on a quilt trip.
CHEER UP! (suggested, not required)
ZeesKiteParticipantSecond call: CR to Oomis, come in. Come in Oomis.
ZeesKiteParticipant42, I thought you know me by now. I wrote that on purpose.
ZeesKiteParticipantNo. I will not.
ZeesKiteParticipantCuriosity: And you just helped bring it back again. By bumping it. (and now me)
ZeesKiteParticipantapushatayid: You’re right, the word should be hay. Hey, thanks!
Mod42, Actually, if you giggle for “zeeskite”, you’ll notice a lot of horse related sites. (not me, right?)
ZeesKiteParticipant(so no one got my line?)
ZeesKiteParticipantSeems like you’re into any and every thing shoe related.
ZeesKiteParticipant(maybe if he polishes her’s)

November 4, 2012 5:24 pm at 5:24 pm in reply to: GAS SHORTAGE: Where Can You get Gas Following Superstorm Sandy? #902442ZeesKiteParticipantEclipse would have said “rowdy”.
Just wondering how much are they selling the free gasoline for?
ZeesKiteParticipantMr. Hooligan said to evacuate immediately. If you have done so, there is no need to do it again..
November 4, 2012 5:20 pm at 5:20 pm in reply to: What do you like about your favorite magazine? #902478ZeesKiteParticipantMe? I make a beeline for the humor section. I only read the pictures, definitely short stories. Who has time and patience for long megillos. Who said what when. Who did that, to whom…
One more thing, I don’t have to shed tears on some fictional work just because some mushy author decided to get emotional..
ZeesKiteParticipantI’d rather not write it because people would assume I’m either a child or insane. Or both…?????? ?????? ?????????
ZeesKiteParticipantCome in Oomis, come in Oomis, do you read?
ZeesKiteParticipantYeah. That time again.
ZeesKiteParticipantWhat’s so ironic is that even non-Jews call these “natural occurrences” – Acts of God!!
ZeesKiteParticipantOK. So I’m back. I got hooked up with my neighbor’s connection. (Now I’m really hooked up)
Sorry folks. You all had your peace and quiet. Now it’s back to …
ZeesKiteParticipantYou’re terribly right. As much fun and entertainment (bitul zman) as I’d like, bizui Torah v’lomdeha, Talmedei Chachomim is, and should be, off limits. To every one.
Thanks for pointing it out.
ZeesKiteParticipantHa! Iv’e been posting by pigeon the last couple of days, obviously they couldn’t find any place to land. V’lo matza hayona… My Jnet is turned off for the foreseeable future so this place will be blessedly quieter!!

October 29, 2012 8:48 pm at 8:48 pm in reply to: Heartwarming, inspiring stories of Jewish community #1023292ZeesKiteParticipantAurora,
Actually, yes I’m plugged into my coffee, so I’ll be ready & charged in case of a brown out (where the brown, coffee, is out).
In times of old there used to be twelve shevatim, tribes. Each one had a unique function and pathway to Avodas HaShem, servitude to HaShem. Each one actually had a unique color of stone represented on the choshen – breastplate of the cohen gadol. So our “coloring” goes a long time back.
October 29, 2012 7:59 pm at 7:59 pm in reply to: right – left ?? Do I have a mental problem? #901735ZeesKiteParticipantI wish I knew too. btw, which side is right? Problem is I type with both hands. I play music also with two hands (and one foot). So I have to remember my right hand is the one the does the treble clef, or holds the bow. That’s more complicated.
October 29, 2012 7:54 pm at 7:54 pm in reply to: Heartwarming, inspiring stories of Jewish community #1023287ZeesKiteParticipantSo, I see you love Jews too! (just kidding)
My greatest inspiration continues to be in the summer months where we were the past many years. We have so many different types, levels, yet we’re all one unit and (as the man said) soulmates one another. You gotta see it to believe it. So many different outward appearances, dress codes, headgears. So many different Hashkafos too. Yet we all admire and grow from each other’s positive traits, each other’s ma’alos. As the pasuk says ????? ?? ??? ???? ?????? ??? ??????, (not really a pasuk). I get the niggling feeling that that is exactly what Am Yisroel is supposed to be like, so many wonderful, colorful stripes to the picture, yet one picture, one ?????. If mussar is in place, it’s only to better the recipient, not ?”? to antagonize, hurt.
Thanks for starting this nice thread.
(I know you were directing your post to me, you did write “Dear Coffee Room”, that’s my first home.)
ZeesKiteParticipantI know, it’s just that at some point reality HAS to set in. We’re cramming more and more into a place that has NO MORE ROOM. Elected officials were elected for something – to find solutions (maybe at times not so conventional) to problems. Pressing ones. Ones that bigwigs tend to look away from. (Or tell you to drive a bike)
Y’know what? VOTE ME FOR MAYOR!! How’s that? Heard first on Yeshiva World Coffee Room. ZeesKite For Mayor ’14. “I Promise Every One A Parking Space” – my campaign promise. I’m running for the party “We Need Parking Spaces”.
Remember
ZeesKite For Mayor ’14
ZeesKiteParticipantTY again, Oomis.
HaleiVi: Yeah, you seem to have the personality everyone admires, cherishes. Knowledgeable in all fields, all areas of Torah, all obscure seforim and sources, revealed and hidden. Then we find you most knowledgeable in all sciences, histories and other areas of secular knowledge and practical fields. You seem to be very musical, in fact I could just picture you playing without any instrument. You appear to be very level-headed, always with the right approach to take on a problem or issue. You also come to me as one that cannot get angry, in fact I cannot recall any mean spirited or harsh exchange here towards anyone.
Are you the same in real life?
ZeesKiteParticipantWhy can’t they institute diagonal parking. We’d be able to fit more cars all over the place. Maybe someone could mention this to the Department of traffic, the Mayor, the President… Let’s see change..
ZeesKiteParticipantOomis, Thank you for judging me so favorably, if you’d only know..
torah613613torah:
