Oh please! The RICH ones who live in Eretz Yisroel have a MUCH simpler lifestyle than the POOR in America. Practically NOONE has a car, for starters, Everyone lives in an apartment. No has a playroom, study, 4 bath, 7 bedroom home. The lifestyle is so much simpler and more affordable, even without much help!

    To the Wolf:

“The calendar is jury-rigged to prevent Yom Kippur from falling out on a Friday.”

Actually in a recent artical (Mishpacha Kulmas) it said that the rules of LO ADO ROSH is to prevent Yom Kippur from falling on Friday and Sunday so that there wouldn’t be two days of (total) issur malacha in a row, and also that HaShana Rabba should not fall on Shabbos.

See Rav Shimon Shwab “MaAyn Bais HaShoava”. He tries to reconsile the Rashi (aged 3) and Tosfos by (aged 14) by saying that Rivka was born 14 years before she got married. Yitzchok was only shayich to become one of the Avos because of his willingness to partake in the Akeida and be the Korbon, which was three years before he married Rivka. Also, Sara Imeinu was nifteres at the time of the akeida. At the point at which Yitzchok was shayich to become one of the Avos, Rivka began her path to gadlus to become one of the Imahos. (Sort of Hikir es bora)

She was 14 years OLD, but 3 years IN THE MAKING.

Look it up. He is obviously much clearer than what I can say from vague memory.

“intelectual”, from your spelling abilities it is quite obvious that you didn’t/don’t spend too much time in the library!

HashemLovesMe, I am totally serious. A tallis (the garment) is just a four cornered piece of cloth. Four cornered garments require the fringes (tzitzes). There is no kedusha to the tallis. We all where them (or the smaller version… tzitzes) when we go to the bathroom. A tallis can be thrown out (wrapped nicely) after its use. There is no k’dusha in it. It is just used for the miztva. (Tashmishei Mitzva vs. Tashmishei Kedusha). There is discusions in halacha about wearing a towel over your head needing tzitzes or a blanket in bed. But noone would say not to clean your glasses with you beach towel.

Most boys, by the time their in 12th grade know alot more about these topics than girls do. Anybody that learned meseches kidushin or gittin can’t be totally clueless. (Or else, he doesn’t totally undertsand the gemarah). Girls should have some knowledge about the inyan. Full halacha classes? NO! But what I think bymeidel is asking for is some direction in hashkafa. Someone told me about a lady who teaches kallas who asks each girl at the first meeting, “How are babies born?” Some were so clueless, that its mindboggling! One answered that mothers take pills…

Why waste a precious tissue to wipe your glasses when you can use your tallis? Many regular guys will wipe their glasses with their ties or shirts. Its not in anyway a bizoyon. Wasting a precious tissue maybe a issur deoraisa of bal tashchis…

Remember . The entire world was destroyed in the days of the mabul because of their “acts”. Sodom and Amora were destroyed because they wrote “marriage contracts” between two men.

Why don’t we put on the ballot the redefinition of the “President of the United States” to mean, “any persons born with two arms and legs”, and we can all get free medical insurance and rent paid for by the taxpayer? What is the “redifintion of anything”? It means making the old forbidden, the new mitzva? r”l

Personally, when I’m davening Shmone Esrei and someone is standing waiting to for me to finish so that he can pass it is veruy annoying and takes away all possible kavanah. It would be better for him just to pass me so that I can daven the rest with kavana.

Same for the guy davening in front of me and finishes Shmonei Esreh before me, every 15 seconds turning around… just back up and let me finish at my own pace.

The Gedolim of past never allowed anyone to vote for someone who had hashkofos so contradictory to a Torahdika lifestyle. It is said that someone went into Rav Yaakov Kamenetzky with this shaila, Vote for someone who is an anti-semite but for decent values or vote for someone who can help the community financially but has no family values? And he said vote in the anti-semite.

And that is just voting. Not making parlor meetings for these coooks.

And don’t think that we as a community don’t really care about this issue. If someone has a 501c3 organazation (like all our mosdos, chassidus and aguda do) and they will not hire a mishkav zachar they will be able to get sued big time. Schools will be required to hire xxx amount of mishkav zachar teachers to teach the lifestyle.

Levin is right in making this a major issue. Is the way he is doing this right? I don’t think so. But niether are people who only see dollar signs in a candidate. Are you willing to sell your hashkofos for your fancy lifestyle? Before we see what we can gain from voting in a candidate we should check out his hashkofos thoroughly.

Yesterday, when I was watching the rescue something very odd occured to me. I generally not one who believes in conspiracies, but this whole rescue just seemed very odd.

Remember, these guys were underground for 69 days. Thats 69 days. When they came up through that tiny whole, they looked far too well groomed. Their hair wasn’t too long. They all looked like they took a recent shave. If these guys were trapped for 2 plus months they should have looked like Sadaam Hussain when he was found. Ela may, they had some provisions in the mine. How come you never see any of that kind of stuff coming up??

Theres got to be something missing in the whole story….
