I dont know about the US, but in Israel there an “appeals court” for beis din.

I think also the RCA allows appeals

I am not a music expert, However I do know there are only so many combinations of music on an 8 note scale that are possible since there arent that many notes.

All the combinations have already been done on a 8 note scale. There is no such thing as new music. Its impossible on a 8 note scale (It can be done on a 12 note scale..but few music uses that)

You might not realize but the OP a few months ago was posting how he wanted to get a beis din to force his wife to stay married to him. Most people here gave advice to let go and he refused and listened to a few people who were trolling him.

he is now paying the price of not being more reasonable then

FuturePOTUS, to my understanding OO is not condoning acts but looking the other way. Is this different than looking the other way regarding people who commit financial crimes

There is a difference between condoning certain relationship and looking the other way. Many mainstream more modern places do look the other way , but they will not openly endorse anything

All secular medieval literature should be burned. I’m speaking from a well-educated place – I just took a class on medieval lit. There’s no easy way around it. Just burn it and wipe it off the face of the web. Way too much twisting of morals going on.

There is a famous photograph of a massive book burning occuring circa 1933

No matter how one tries, its very difficult to legislate language. It usually fails. Except for the re-introduction of hebrew to the modern state of Israel. It has almost always failed.

for example Ireland tried to force the re-introduction of Irish over english and it has failed miserably

Most jews own shares in companies that might own chometz over pesach, via such outlets as mutual funds , pension funds etc, but they do not have a controlling vote so according to most its not a big deal

Unless you have a controlling voting share, I would not worry about it

In many countries speaking english is what makes one “cultured”. People are judged based on their english skills. Young people think its cool to speak it

I have a close relative learning at Brisk, and he was the one who told me that if you were Israeli and you spoke english, They considered you OTD. Since he is american, he is allowed to speak it.

There was also an aritcle posted here about a store in Bnei Brak that had a sign in english and Rav Zilberstein ruled that one should not patron a store with a sign in english, in Bnei Brak

Someone told me that in certain charedi circles in Israel that learning English is considered going OTD (If you are Israeli, not American)

So that Rav Chaim banned Shakespeare could have been for Israeli Charedim, not Americans

And regarding membership, all shomrei shabbos residents of the town are automatically members of the kehilla, and therefore obligated to pay membership.

In the US nobody can force you to pay anything. There really isnt such a thing as a “Kehila” in the US (Except maybe Kiryat Joel or maybe Lakewood, but that is it) Brooklyn for sure is NOT a kehila

Switzerland during WW II was in a dangerous position, they were surrounded on all sides by the Nazi’s. The only reason the nazis did not invade was because the nazis needed them to sell off the gold. If the Swiss would have angered the Nazis too much, they would have invaded them too

One major differnce between the more Charedi communities and the more modern ones is how people look at other people

If someone keeps 60-70% of Halacha. The Charedi communties will look at such a person as a sinner and might throw them out if they dont immediately agree to abide. The more modern communities will look at the 60-70% that they do keep

So if a woman is seen outside the community having hair uncovered and wearing pants. But is known to keep kosher and shabbos. How do you react to such a person, Do you look at the part that they keep or the part they dont keep and what do you say to the person. Telling the tochcha many times will backfire.

There is something called the food chain. And its fits the torah . Everything created by hashem has a purpose

Lets take Mosquitoes whom we all hate. What is the purpose of a mosquito. Mosquitos are eaten by other animals , who are eaten by other animals and at some point those animals are eaten by people. If the mosquitoes would died the animals higher up on the food chain would die

Birds eat alot of mosquitoes and they keep the mosquito population in check, if the birds are removed there will be more mosquitoes.

Hashem created the right checks and balances in the animal food kingdom. If we mess it up, we can create havoc.

There are plenty of people who attend Young Israels who really arent that religious. They basically keep shabbos more or less and keep kosher more or less, but dont do much else.

The women do not cover their hair outside of shul and wear pants and the men do not daven during the week. Pretty much everyone in shul knows these people.

You can either tell them what they are doing wrong and risk they leave (and that does happen) or let them continue what they are doing as most do go to shul on shabbos on a regular basis and send their kids to day schools and live in a jewish area

For people who learning is the most important thing, Scranton is a better choice as the cost of living is lower. While there are people who commute from lakewood to NYC, It is tough, Many people who do work there own some sort of business there. people can open up businesses in Lakewood.

Kiryat Joel is not so close to NYC either. It is a long commute for those who do commute. Many work closer to home.

Gateshead is not close to London at all and they seem to do OK there too

Boro Park can handle the increased sewer usage more than Monsey can because its part of the Greater Brooklyn and NYC system

100,000 more jews in a city of 8.5 million isnt a large percentage (also consider that some people leave). 100,000 jews in a county of 500,000 is a huge increase

NYC’s tax base is not based on neighborhoods, its centralized meaning people in Staten Island pay lower property taxes than their neighbors in NJ because they benefit from the business taxes in Manhattan. People in Boro Park pay lower taxes because of the real estate in Manhattan. Its not like that in the Suburns. Rockland does not benefit from Manhattan real esate (on a local level, they do on a state level)

As a side note the largest real estate holder in NYC is the Catholic Church (and yes some people do want them to pay taxes). The Watchtower is selling their property in Dumbo worth about $6 Billion dollars tax free. No yeshiva in Brooklyn has any worth even close to $6 billion.

Even though the Frum people in Ramapo do not send their kids to public school, their school cost is not zero as we have debated this ad infinitum (Busing , Mandatory services , etc)

Also the Suburbs have other costs that city residents dont even realize , Like sewers, Police, Fireman, Road repair, Snow plowing, Sewers , Social Services and more because they have a lower tax base and those costs are borne by property taxes

I think my post lost its meaning due to the edit.

People being inconsiderate is really the problem.

Just because you are 5 mins late to Davening, doesnt mean you should make others pay a price. It is your fault not theirs

Shuls and Yeshivas ARE bad neighbors, but not because of the Shuls or yeshivas themselves, but the traffic, double parking and congestion around davening times.

People who will walk 5 blocks to shul on shabbos, will drive during the week and take up all the parking spaces the people who live on the block need.

NYC is a sense of scale. Its a very large city and small increases arent a big deal to it. 20,000 people (Just a random number) isnt a big deal in a city of 8.5 million. However its a very big deal in a county of 400,000

The other problem is Taxes. Religious institutions dont pay property taxes. NYC has a large corporate tax base so its not really an issue. A small shul on 46th St in Borough park doesnt make a difference in NYC. it a big deal in Monsey where there are very few corporations to make up for theloss

    edited a bit

Increaseing the roads, Sewards etc is VERY expensive. It would likely require the entire county if not the state to pay for it.

I dont think the roads can be increased anyway, that would likely require moving buuilding as I dont think there is much empty space there

The sewars and water supply is a BIG deal (Kiryat Joel is fighting over this)

I dont think you can take someone to Beis Din against their will. I find it really hard to belive that if some Satmar desides to take me to a Satmar Beis Din I have to comply (I have nothing to do with the Satmar community, thats why i picked that one) nor do i think a Satmar Beis din would even entertain such a though knowing there is little they could do to make me obey

So GAW, according to you, that means that he gets to decide now what masechta they are learning each zman, which talmidim get accepted, who gets to head a new chabura, who should give shiur or be mashgiach, is responsible for the spiritual growth of 6000 talmidim and after 120, his son(s) replace the current Roshei Yeshiva?

Some things are more financial in that list than others

Chosing who gets accepted (and getting the Stipend), Who gets paid for Shiurim or Mashgiach (its a paid position) are influenced by the financial side
