zahavasdadParticipant
In todays society with almost everyone having a smartphone with a video camera. Its not very hard for someone to video some of the protests, Post the video online and send the link to a news service.
Some of those news sources are very anti-torah and will use this news against the torah community as a whole.
Better to show this news on a torah site for people to read it there than read it on an anti-torah site.
You cannot expect news to be censored anymore. You cannot cover up things easily anymore

Do you also favor physically punishing those who commit fraud and those who commit Abuse?
Do you advocate locking up an abuser so he doesnt get outside
zahavasdadParticipantI meant Edgeware, not Hampstead (Its all the same area)
zahavasdadParticipantGeordie
Didnt you forget
Hampstead and Antwerp?
zahavasdadParticipantKiryat Tosh – Quebec
zahavasdadParticipantTell her she can be frum without learning. Women have no chiyuv to ‘learn’. Just keep Shabbos, Kashrus, etc.
This is probably some of the worst advice here, Women who come from more modern backrounds many times have differnt views on such things and to them such things imply to them that women R’L are second class citizens in Yiddishkeit
March 30, 2017 3:49 pm at 3:49 pm in reply to: Video of woman being attacked at peleg protest #1247588zahavasdadParticipantWhatever happend to the Psak of Rav Elyshiv
One should lift their head out of the Gemora , Say I Protest , and then go back to learning
zahavasdadParticipantHere is the article, but the link to the video was removed
zahavasdadParticipantThere is a video that was posted on YWN of Rav Chaim saying a Boreh Minah Besamin on it
March 29, 2017 1:16 pm at 1:16 pm in reply to: Video of woman being attacked at peleg protest #1246692zahavasdadParticipantPlenty of Bochrin go to the Draft board and tell them, The followers of Rav Aharon leib and Rav Chaim go to the board and tell them
It is the followers of Rav Shumel Auberbach who do not go down
zahavasdadParticipantAvram
Giving someone Gefilte is a sure fire way to chase them away And if you really want to make sure they dont come back, Offer them some Chopper Liver
March 29, 2017 11:23 am at 11:23 am in reply to: Video of woman being attacked at peleg protest #1246576zahavasdadParticipantThis is what the protest is , As neutral as I can make it
There is an issue of the draft in Israel and that Yeshiva Bocherim do not get drafted. However the deal that they dont get drafted includes the provision that they go down to the Draft board and tell them.
The Peleg Yerushalim faction not only does not go to the draft, they do not even go down to the draft board to register
zahavasdadParticipantThis is a tough thing to put in words, so Im not sure it is coming out
Kiruv will also only work if It can fit in the persons life and what I mean is, for example Kiruv is much tougher if the person is married to a non-jew or is forced to alter family relationships in a bad way.
Ive met people who experienced a Shabbos and felt inspired , but when they went home, they were isolated on Shabbos (They lived too far away from a shul and lived with non-religious people and were not always able to go away for Shabbos and could not move) It was doomed to fail
zahavasdadParticipantIf you are going to “trick” someone into showing them how beautiful Yiddishkeite is
What are you going to do if someone shows you parts that are harder for many people to accept.
What if the person who you have “sneakily proved that yiddishkeite is beautiful” tell you they are a mamzer and cannot marry easier. Of what if the person you are learning with is an Agunah.
You are hitting a slipperly slope
zahavasdadParticipantI am going to agree with LU here, Kiruv is a very dangerous field to be in. Everyone wants to be in it and spread Yiddishkeit, however they dont seem to realize there is a danger of either being drawn in to the other side or doing or saying the wrong thing.
One can have the right motivations and still say the wrong thing and poison the whole operation
zahavasdadParticipantits not techonlogy per se.
In general religion is on the decline in the western world, people see it as backward and even R’L as hateful and its very hard to convience people otherwise.
zahavasdadParticipantI think alot of people go into Kiruv with unrealistic expectations, They are firm in their yiddishkeit and think others feel the same way. They think that having someone experience a shabbos, Putting on tfelling once or learning some gemorah will bring out the “Pintele Yid” and suddenly someone will become frum. It just doesnt work that way in the real world.
March 26, 2017 9:40 pm at 9:40 pm in reply to: American pop culture vs secular Israeli pop culture #1244317zahavasdadParticipantThe Song Hashem Melech, Hashem Malach is from a totally secular source
It was used as both an Arabic/french song and a Latino Song
zahavasdadParticipantJMO
I suspect they dont want you to discuss hashkafa because they are afraid somneone might say something that might have the Bocher question. In any open discussion between 2 people its possible the “wrong person” might get influenced. I suppose they want you to concentrate on gemorah because they know that wont happen
zahavasdadParticipantIf you are going to get into Kiruv, just be aware not everyone is into relgion as you are and there will likely be more failures than successes and there are things you just wont be able to compete with.
for example If someone has tickets to a concert Friday Night, You are unlikely to convince them to give it up for shabbos.
If you cannot deal with such things, perhaps Kiruv is just not your thing. You will have to celebrate the smaller victories.

zahavasdadParticipantShould we go to the local Conservative or Reform temple and physically block people from driving on Shabbos?
zahavasdadParticipantJoseph
If you saw someone about to speak Loshon Harah, would you slap them in order to stop speaking it
zahavasdadParticipantIn many cases saying “I dont have time” is code word for saying I dont want to do this anymore
zahavasdadParticipantYou cannot force someone to learn, if she doesnt want to there isnt much you can do
zahavasdadParticipantCity University of NY (CCNY) is very well known nationally. It is not Columbia, but it is alot cheaper and columbia is hard to get into.
zahavasdadParticipantJoseph
How about making Scarlet Z’s and forcing anyone not dressed Tniut to wear one
zahavasdadParticipantSeriously, why does it matter what gender 29 or anyone mod or for that matter anyone else is.
This is an anoynous forum
Cant we go back to arguing if Joseph can place Scarlet Letters on Tzniut offenderes
zahavasdadParticipantYou can keep stores Kosher, but you cant force people to eat there.
If someone from Borough Park wants to go a McDonalds in Manhattan, there is no way to stop them
zahavasdadParticipantIf someone does not want to follow the Vaad Tzniut , they can just move someplace else to a place where people are not sympathetic at all to the Vaad Tnziut
zahavasdadParticipantI didnt make the Satire post, someone else did.
I dont think I had anything to do with it.
Lastly I dont care what anyone here thinks of me, I have a thicker skin, you have to have one on the internet
zahavasdadParticipantLu
On a threat about Dating or Shiducchim, someone wrote a Satire about dating and you said one shouldnt post that because some people might actually belive it
zahavasdadParticipantIts not Queens College that you want to go to, Its City College (CCNY) that has a very good engineering program
zahavasdadParticipantThe only way to do anything is the power of persuasion . You have to be able to “sell” someone keeping Shabbos, Kosher, Tzniut etc and persuade them to follow. If they are unwilling to be persuaded or listen to your sales pitch, there isnt much you can do
zahavasdadParticipantMost jews do not keep kosher , the only ones who do do so because they want to (for whatever reason)
And even if you enforce kosher, How do you know that person doesnt leave the area and go to an area where there are no religous jews, doesnt know anyone there and goes to the drive in at McDonalds and orders a bacon double cheeseburger
zahavasdadParticipantIf someone is hostile to something, its much more difficult to discuss. Just look what happend to the rabbi who gave the Zumba Tzniut Speech.
People protested and Not only was Tzniut not increased, he paid a personal price by being disinvited to places and not be invited to new ones.
zahavasdadParticipantNot only are some aware, they are actually Hostile and the way its presented in most cases increases that hostility
zahavasdadParticipantLU
You do have to choose your words better, You were worried about being seeing Satire as fact, People lurking here (and LOTS of people lurk here) will see your post and get a negative view even if you dont think it was negative at all
zahavasdadParticipantThere have been many Chumras introduced and ive said it before , When you start adding too many chumras and people find out its just a chumra and not Halacha, they will question everything you said
zahavasdadParticipantIn all serious there is a well known Speaker who gave a mussor speech about the tzniut of Sarah Emainu and tied it to some exercises. Not only did the speech not reduce the breech of tzniut, the speech was mocked and the speaker himself was villified and had to slightly back down from his speech and some places cancelled his speaking engagements and he was not invited other palces
zahavasdadParticipantI vote for Joseph to yell Zonah at everyone who dresses in a way he deems untzniut
zahavasdadParticipantIts assur D’Araysa Kol Hazman to toast a Bagel, even on a tuesday
zahavasdadParticipantSince when is it against Halacha to quote the Pythagoreom Theorom or discuss Euclidian Geometry
zahavasdadParticipantI think the OP is trying to make a differnce between a Shidduch date where the parents set them up, they go out a few times and get engagaged vs a couple who finds each other on Jdate or a Singles event and dates for 6 months
zahavasdadParticipantIt is assur D’Aroysa to toast a Bagel
zahavasdadParticipantThey dont poskin individual Halachas, but rather community Halachas. Your local rav polskins individual issues.
However if a Rav poskins something not in line with the community like womens prayer groups, then they will intervene
zahavasdadParticipantThe Vaad of Queens is not just Hashghcha, Its all encompasing even doing conversions, that even Rav Belsky would tell people to go to , if they wanted to convert
zahavasdadParticipantThe Hashghcahs in Great Neck are under the Vaad of Queens and the Rabbanin there are members of the Vaad of Queens. I think one or 2 opted out (Due to trying to be more liberal than the Vaad of Queens allowed)
Great Neck is right next to Queens, and many of the schools take student from both the Queens community and Great Neck, so it makes sense they are joined even if they are technically in different counties
zahavasdadParticipantThere is no Vaad of Nassau County
Even though Greek Neck is in Nassau County, they are part of the Vaad of Queens. The Vaad of Queens is not exclusively in Queens. West Hempstead is also partially part of the Vaad of Queens
March 15, 2017 6:38 pm at 6:38 pm in reply to: Very Important Public Service Announcement for all posters #1228791zahavasdadParticipantnever take anything here too seriously
zahavasdadParticipantHe might very well be a talmid Chachim and a great Tzadik, but he is not even the gadol Hador for even Great Neck , NY , let alone the US(Great Neck, NY is considered part of of the Queens, NY Kehila (Vaad of Queens)) All the Rabbanim in Great Neck are Part of the Vaad of Queens. And he is definatly not the Morah D’Asrah of the Queens Kehilla
