Tuna Beigel is someone who looks frum , but doesnt act that way

Greasy I cant really descrobe, but it has something to do with being “too frum” or something like that

generally the highest paid people are sales people, the more you sell, the more you make

Sports people are in a sense “Sales people” they are selling the team or the sport. If the team is good, more people will buy tickets , buy more merchandise etc

Movie stars are the same, If someone is a popular actor they will help sell movie tickets that an unknown probably wont be able to sell, so they are paid to help sell the product.

The is JMO and not Halacha La’Maalaseh but its not so far off what Rav Yosef and Rabbi Horowitz said

In the more charedi world people tend to marry people of similar backround ie Belzer Chasidim marry other Belzer Chassidim (or someone from a group related to Belzer) or yeshivish marry other yeshivish, you wont see many Belzer chasidim marrying Yeshivish people (not saying it doesnt happen, its just rare)

However in the more modern communities people will marry people from other groups. An Ashkanez will marry a Sephard or a Litvak will marry a Yekke and the lines between these groups are being erased as ties to the Alter Heim is being forgotten and erased. I mean really how many people really consider themselves Galizianers anymore.

When people from differnet backrounds marry, you sort of have to compromise top make it work, especially since nowadays people will spend more time with the in-laws than they did in previous genarations. In previous genrations many times the woman left the town where she was from to move to the husbands town and rarely saw her parents again, today spending Shabbos and Yom tov with the womans parents is normal

“Those rabbis who allowed smoking (e.g., Rav Moshe has a teshuva about this) did so because in their days, it was not yet known just how dangerous smoking was, and if they would have known, they would have assured it as well.”

I would be very wary of making definitive statements regarding what Gedolei HaDor “would have said” in a given situation. I would at the very least qualify the statement by adding the word “perhaps”.

People seem to quote Rav Elchanon Wasserman, for what he said in 1939 and would assume he would say the same thing in 1945

Again I cannot afford such a trip, but for those who say Pesach at home is the best, For them that might be true, but for other people its the worse

Some people have bets, How long will it take for Uncle Mordy and Uncle Shmulei to have the first argument

Others are taking options on the first “dispute” between Malkie and Raizie

Others have pools on how long it will take for all the kinderlach to say the Mah Nishtana and who goes first

And of course Bubbie and Zaydie love all their anielach, All 30 of them K’H but Mommy and Tatie consider a trip to Bubble and Zaydie a “vacation” and expect Bubbie and Zaydie (especially Bubbie) to watch all the kinderlach.

And by the first Kadaish Urchatz of the first sedar half the people already got cabin fever for being 50 people in a 3 bedroom house

In other words for some people Pesach at home isnt so Leybidic

Ive never gone to a Hotel, beyond my budget, but it is not my place to decide how someone else spends their money.

for many people Pesach has become too complicated with the OCD cleaning and the food being super expensive. I understand why people would want to go away.

BTW I do not belive people spent $80,000 unless it was a huge family. Ive seen the price on this things and they are about $2500 a person

<em I heard last night at a shiur on Pesach that since our approach to kiruv has changed, the advice of the Baal Hagadah may not apply nowadays.

Whose authority is big enough to decide to change our policy from following the Tannaim to a more modern day attitude?

In the time of the Taanim, the Rabbanim had more real control over people, they could force you to keep Halacha and throwing out a Rasha, would likely lead them to Tshuva

Today if you throw out someone calling them a Rasha, will more likely lead them to leave and not come back and maybe even become “successful” and not let you forget it

Potato Bread Recipe (I am not commenting on the kashruth of any of the items in this list) I just cut and pasted it

1 medium russet potato, baked and/or previously mashed
2 packets red star quick yeast (GF) (around 14 grams)
3 tbsp of some form of sugar to activate yeast (coconut sugar or honey both work)
3/4 cup warm almond milk (or milk of choice)
    2 eggs, 1 egg white
3 2/3 cup almond flour (see notes for other flour options)
    3/4 cup tapioca flour
1 tsp garlic salt or sea salt
dried seasoning of choice or optional chive or basil herbs mixed in 1 -2 tsp dried
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar or white vinegar
    1/4 cup olive oil
3/4 cup chopped onion or green onion (scallions)
    optional parmesan to top

    Instructions

Before you begin, make sure you have a baked potato or mashed potato on hand. You want it already cooked and with skin on.
    Preheat oven to 350F.
Grease or line a 9×5 bread pan with parchment paper (see notes for bread machine).
First sift/combine your flours in a large bowl (almond flour, tapioca flour, salt, garlic, and dried herbs)
Make sure they are all sifted nicely together or not clumpy. Set aside.
Place the yeast, coconut sugar, and warm milk to another mixing bowl. Mix all together and let it sit for 5 minutes to activate the yeast.
Next Whisk your egg and egg white together in a small bowl. Add in your vinegar and oil, whisk again.
Pour this egg/oil mixture into the same bowl as your yeast and milk.
After that, mix in your dry flours/herbs mixture with the wet mix. I used my table top mixture to then mix quickly all together. If you don’t have a stand mixer, use a beater or stir thoroughly. Then add in your mashed potato and mix again until smooth.
    Fold in your onions.
Keep the dough in the bowl and cover it with warm cloth. Set it aside and let it rise for 60-70 minutes. Longer if you did not use quick rise yeast.
Pour batter into greased loaf pan. Add any extra herbs or chopped onion on top.
Optional Sprinkle grated parmesan on top before baking, or half way through baking.
Baked for 45- 50 minutes. The top with turn golden brown.
Remove from oven and let cool completely.
Remove from pan then slice and serve. It toasts up nicely and is great with butter or chili!
Store if fridge to keep fresh or freeze for up to 3 months.

A few years ago, the OU hired a bunch of Biologists to find out exactly what Quinoa was and they said it was some sort of berry or fruit.

They then send a delegation to Ecudador to the fields of where Quinoa is grown to see if Quinoa was even grown near wheat and it was not

After this massive reseach, They decided that it was not Kitnyot. Given the fact the OU is a recognizable name and would destroy their reputation if they declared something kosher when it was not and they did the actual painstaking research, their opinion must be given promimance

That is precisely the problem that the Torah world has with the army.

And that I think is the crux of the problem, In general society there is some effort for everyone to mix together, However in some communities they do not wish this. Its not just the army, There was some school in israel where they didnt want Sefardim because they had different customs and the outcry was either the Charedim were racist or that the hashkfa of the Sephardim would not have worked with the Yeshivish velt Hashgafa.

The Army is about everyone being equal

When you are in the Foxhole and being shot at, the bullets being shot at you dont ask if you are Makpid Chalav Yisroel, Beis Yosef or even if you eat Kosher.

Part of army training is getting people to follow this philosophy. You have to have the thinking your fellow soldier is your comrade and equal otherwise you cannot fight together and when one of you is hurt, you have to help your wounded comrade

The issue of Draft deferments is not new and unfortunatly it is one of the reasons there are many non-religous people and people against gedolim

In the Alter Heim there was a mandatory draft for jews and it was based on communities rather than people. Each community had to give a certain number of young jewish boys to the Russian Army or else.

What wound up happening is boys without Proteskzia mainly poor orphans were the ones going, the Rich were able to pay a fee not to draft their sons and the Yeshiva Bochrim also got deferments . The Poor Orphans had noone to protect them and they were forced to go
