I personally trust the $K more than any other hashghca, its the best Hashghca money can buy
zahavasdadParticipantThere are alot of people who are “Hidden OTD” meaning outwardly they are “frum” but secretly do “unfrum things”
Like they might leave Brooklyn , go to a place with no jews , the wife uncovers her hair and the husband changes his look to “American Style” and they go eat at McDonalds
July 19, 2017 10:31 am at 10:31 am in reply to: How should we address public issues without airing our dirty laundry? #1320755zahavasdadParticipantGedolim are Torah giants, not PR people. And when information from people with agendas is leaked, the damage control can be hard to contain
July 19, 2017 9:53 am at 9:53 am in reply to: How should we address public issues without airing our dirty laundry? #1320723zahavasdadParticipantI am not the one to ask about Daas torah as my views on the topic are well known
July 19, 2017 9:33 am at 9:33 am in reply to: How should we address public issues without airing our dirty laundry? #1320714zahavasdadParticipantMost of the dirty laundry aired out in the world is put out by people who do not belive in Daas Torah and those people might have agendas far and beyond just airing out dirty laundry for one incident
zahavasdadParticipantPeople mistake “fake news” vs “Opinion News” . Most news is Opinion based and not fake
zahavasdadParticipantEmergency Room Doctors actually have one of the easiest times with Shabbos, because they are not on call when they are off. In fact its becoming more popular to become one because you have a regular shift (As opposed to an OBGYN where you can work all sorts of crazy hours)
If for example you are a Heart Specialist or OBGYN for example you need to be on call 24/7
zahavasdadParticipantThe Mormons call non-mormons “Gentiles”
July 16, 2017 9:25 am at 9:25 am in reply to: Should Yeshiva world invite experts to interact with the audience on vital issues #1318099zahavasdadParticipantI suspect in such a forum real questions will get censored and only softball questions will be allowed
zahavasdadParticipantNone of us are on the level of the Chassam Sofer, Only the Chassam Sofer was on the level of the Chassam Sofer.
Some people if they think they can try to be on his level will not only fail but get discouraged
zahavasdadParticipantMost teens engage in some sort of rebellion, Its quite normal. Alot of the rebellion is simply to be against what the parents are for if the parents are religious then they become non-relgious and if the parents are secular, they become relgious.
They once did a poll of the most uncool car among teens. and the winner was Toyota and when they investigated more they found out the reason Toyota cars were uncool among teens was for the simple reason their parents drove them
zahavasdadParticipantAvram
Ive been on these discussions and one of 2 things happen either the people who need to go complain and demand a faster minyan or they quietly vote with their feet and dont come . In many places there are plenty of people for a minyan and its not a problem, but others no so much especially where you have to beg and plead people to come
40-45 Mins will only cut it in a Yeshivish Minyan where people dont have to rush
zahavasdadParticipantI will say the following , Many shuls have to deal with differnt factions on Davening, Some people like longer davenings and others need to get to work and if you dont try to satisfy as many people as you can there might not be a mInyan. The guy who will late to work might not come
zahavasdadParticipantWhat is a Matzah Minyan? (18 minute Shachris?)
zahavasdadParticipantMost frum doctors I know carry cell phones on shabbos and many times use them
zahavasdadParticipantPeople religious observance varies in a lifetime. Some people become more frum and others R’L less frum.
People’s especially teenagers interests also change and can change often. The story about the kid who would rather watch movies than go to davening is a perfect example. For a while davening just didnt interest him and the movies were more important. whenever that phase was over he just went to something else or back to where he was
zahavasdadParticipantYeah its good, It stands for Orthodox Rabbi
zahavasdadParticipantSince you child is in college, I will assume they are at least 18 or close to it.
Once someone is 18 they are a legal adult and there isnt much you can do. basically you can either kick them out and hope nothing goes wrong or at least let them stay at your house being non-jedemental and hope for the best and even if they are not relgious, at least they will be a mensch and a positive member of society
zahavasdadParticipantThey dont sell Egg Creams, you have to make them yourself
Its just Seltzer and Foxes U-Bet Chocolate Syrup
zahavasdadParticipantThere is a feeling among some for “Tough love”, usually it fails and all you have are resentful children. it rarely works
zahavasdadParticipantI dont know anything about you, but there are 2 issues here one is the religious one and the other is the safety issue.
Even if your child is not relgious at this time, you need to get them into something productive. Better to work at McDonalds on Shabbos than have them doing drugs or some other dangerous and harmful activity. At least they will be safe there. You can always do tshuva from working at McDonalds on Shabbos. You cannot do Tshuva if you O’Ded on Heroin

They consider that a sellout. They want the space in front of the Kotel Plaza
July 12, 2017 12:26 pm at 12:26 pm in reply to: 17th of Tammuz at the Kotel’s egalitarian women’s section #1315869zahavasdadParticipantRobinsons Arch is to the side of the kotel, its not in the Main Kotel Plaza
July 12, 2017 12:09 pm at 12:09 pm in reply to: Every Menahels Difficult Dillema, the underperforming career rebbi. #1315860zahavasdadParticipantI know of a case where a school had serious financial problems and had to let go of some teachers. The fired teachers took them to a Din torah and won and got their jobs back.
Sadly the school went under and they lost their jobs anyway
zahavasdadParticipantAll of the allegations posted here are heresay. Nobody knows any of the facts. In fact the only thing we know for sure is a couple divorced and likely the couple hates each other and its also very likely the couple are using the kids as pawns in the divorce.
zahavasdadParticipant3 sides doesnt mean everyone is lying, but it means people are giving their biased side of the story.
Especially in a family dispute where the 2 litigants may hate each other, they will do whatever it takes to put the other side in a negative light
zahavasdadParticipantFamily court records are not public records, Its probable someone leaked some of the documents, but not all of them. They must have released ones sympathetic to their sides
zahavasdadParticipantMore than once I have seen these sort of domestic disputes play itself out over the internet and more than once it turned out it was more nunanced than first appeared
zahavasdadParticipantThere are 3 sides to every story
Her side
His side
and the truth. We do not know specific details of this case , especially a domestic dispute
zahavasdadParticipantHow about have some fun , go outside and enjoy the outdoors, Hiking, Boating , etc
July 11, 2017 11:41 am at 11:41 am in reply to: Are out of town mesivta’s emotionally healthy places for young bachurim? #1315219zahavasdadParticipantEvery bocher is differnt, One cannot know from a general post if a particular bocher should be sent away or kept at home
zahavasdadParticipantFrom 2014
Last year, out of 83,963 bar exam takers, only 60 were apprentices. A mere 17 succeeded in passing the bar exam and becoming eligible to practice law. It is a long, difficult road, requiring four years of mentorship and thousands of hours of self-led work, but when completed, it can save a prospective lawyer hundreds of thousands of dollars in law school debt.
zahavasdadParticipantIf one adds up the entire GDP of Lakewood and divided the income evenly, It would not be enough to help everyone
zahavasdadParticipantTechnically you dont need to go to college to go to law School. There are a few students every year who go straight to law school without college. The BTL puts you in the same class as these students
zahavasdadParticipantSupporting Limud HaTorah is a charitable cause. You can use your Maaser to support Limud HaTorah.
So you are asking money for things like masbia, Hatzolah , gemachs and other situations where its dire and the person maybe cannot control the situation be diverted to someone who chooses to to in kollel
zahavasdadParticipantThe other point that no one has addressed is: Why is more not being done to educate baal habatim on the importance of supporting Limud HaTorah?
People with large familes only have so much extra Tzdekah to give, once they give their Maasar, pay the bills and maybe a little extras, there is little left over
zahavasdadParticipantMamale, I have a BA from a regular secualr college in computer Science, I am very well aware of the field and I can tell you the job prospects arent as good as some think. They outsource programming to India, B’H I never got a programming job even though that was my original plan
zahavasdadParticipantIf he was offered $70,000 he should have taken it and be very grateful
zahavasdadParticipantA BTL is generally worthless in the “goyish” velt
zahavasdadParticipantThe mean income in the US is #$53,000. to expect $70,000 with no education and no experience is unrealistic.
The only jobs that pay higher salaries like that are professionals like Doctors or Lawyer or sales people and a few other scatterd jobs that you need degrees for.
zahavasdadParticipantAnyone who tries to give contructive critism of the topic is usually shouted down. There will be no changes.
July 9, 2017 6:45 pm at 6:45 pm in reply to: Yeshiva High School Graduates versus Public High School Graduates #1313283zahavasdadParticipantPeople here seem to want to compare better yeshivas to worse public schools. East Ramapo or Lakewood isnt exactly the best places to compare, People with money who want to send their kids to public school wont live there, they will move. Non-frum people choose areas partly based on public schools
July 9, 2017 9:41 am at 9:41 am in reply to: Yeshiva High School Graduates versus Public High School Graduates #1313244zahavasdadParticipantNot all NYC schools are bad. In fact some of the best High schools in the country are in NYC
Id like to see how an average Yeshiva student compares to an average Stuyvest or Bronx Science High school student and I am willing to bet the yeshiva student will not come out ahead
July 7, 2017 7:41 pm at 7:41 pm in reply to: Another glorious nonsensical back and forth between Health and Ubiquitin #1313134zahavasdadParticipantFrum families would also be at risk for much higher insurance rates
Larges families mean more hospital stays for women and kids are always getting sick
July 7, 2017 10:24 am at 10:24 am in reply to: Another glorious nonsensical back and forth between Health and Ubiquitin #1312867zahavasdadParticipantCosmetic Surgery is optional and people can choose not to have it, If you need triple Bypass surgery , you need triple bypass surgery
zahavasdadParticipantDY
I have quite a bit of family in Lakewood and they have been in Kollel for years , More than 10 years
July 6, 2017 4:10 pm at 4:10 pm in reply to: Discouraging Making Aliyah: Satmar Rebbe in France #1312438zahavasdadParticipantLike Paris is such a spritual city and there is no temptation to do averaihs in Paris.
July 6, 2017 2:59 pm at 2:59 pm in reply to: Another glorious nonsensical back and forth between Health and Ubiquitin #1312276zahavasdadParticipantIf I am not mistaken Avi K lives in Israel with Socialized Medicine. Ive never heard him complain about Kupat Cholim and frankly havent heard much complaints about it either.
So it must be working
zahavasdadParticipantThere were more arrests today 🙁
zahavasdadParticipantThe National Guard at that time was a way to avoid getting sent to Vietnam. It was actually well connected people Like former President Bush who were usually in tha guard so they wouldnt get drafted.
But it doesnt matter, the protestets were peaceful and at least of the people shot was an innocent bystander and anyway protesting is not a capital crime
