In most events there is something called Dynamic pricing, meaning you have to charge what people are willing to pay. many times “Ticket Scalpers” actually have to sell tickets for less than they paid for it and some events raise and lower the prices based on demand (Something like Airlines or hotels do)

The Satmar Rebbe who surived the war did not change his mind, but Im sure that some who were anti-zionists before the war had they survived would have changed their mind given that the survivors could no longer live in Europe.

The places that were forbidden in 1939 were the places that jews had to move to after the war, So any Rav who was opposed to going to America or Israel in 1939 could not have held that position in 1945

The father of the Satmar Rebbe was the Sighet Rebbe, not the Satmar Rebbe

The Anti-Zionism of the Satmar Rebbe comes from Munkatch

I do not say this is unanimous as Im sure its not, but Rav Ovadiah Yosef and Chabad do say to convert the Zera Yisroel, there might be others as well , but I dont know and Im sure there are those who say they are no different than you everyday non-jew, but there is certainly competent Poskim to rely to make an easier conversion for them

Its not exactly true that a Non-halachic jew and Bill Clinton are the same gentile

If Bill Clinton tried to convert we would try very hard to discourage him, if a Zera Yisroel tries to convert we do not discourage him as much (if it all)

The real estate prices are alot worse than the taxes, One bedroom apartment in frum areas of NYC are around $2000 a month and houses in NYC in frum areas are close to $1 million if not more

Its a NYC law now that all kids get free lunches, it was because the kids who really needed it refused to take because of stigma, so they just gave to all students as the cost wasnt that much higher

I cannot belive people spend $150 a week for a family of 4., It has to be alot higher epsecially if you shop in jewish supermarkers (as opposed to regular supermarkers like Stop and Shop or Trader Joes)

You probably should differentiate between Orthodox and non-Orthodox.

Why? the world doesnt in fact a Non-Halachic jew in a high place is treated by them the same as a halachic jew and if this non-halachic jew does good or bad, we are rewarded or punished for their actions

Some brands are so damaged they bring down others with them and with kashruth its all about reputation, loss of reputation damages the kashruth agency .

regardless of what you think companies are not stupid, they know more about marketing than you think, Conagra which is a multinational food corporation that owns Hebrew National did their proper homework once they bought it

in reply to: Solomon’s Meat in Costco #1792011

The Issue with Hebrew National is the brand had such a bad repution , it could not be fixed. Hebrew National is actually owned by a big food conglomarate who wanted to own “Premium brand” foods. After the purchased Hebrew National they found out most kosher keeping jews didnt eat it. They did reseach why and found it the supervision wasnt up to their standards, The research also said the OU was an acceptable supervision (Companies arent stupid) they then went to the OU to get the OU and the OU told them Hebrew national’s reputation was so bad they felt it could not be fixed and would damage the OU’s repution and so they refused to supervise it.

As a side note for many years Coke had a rabbi, when he died they did not want to tell anyone else the Secret Formula and the OU wanted more of a hint, They then went to the Triangle-K and supervised it for a while. Rumor had it Coke wasnt kosher, but most people just kept using it. Eventually the OU and Coke came to an agreement rearding the secret Formula

Its worse to tell someone to kill 6 Million than do it yourself. If you do the murders yourself you have to look at the people in the eye before you kill them and hear them scream and see the blood

Ordering someone else to do it means you are a coward. Himmler YMSH witnessed one massacare, threw up and then never saw anyone ever killed like that again and ordered Auschwitz to be built

The issue of parnassah is a long time issue, its probably the #1 reason jews converted to christinity (They didnt convert because they belived in the man on the cross, but rather because they were poor and were limited in economic activities) .

Many others stopped keeping shabbos for the same reason, they couldnt support themselves

One should not dismiss this lightly

I think these smartphone and internet is part of a larger issue of many in the charedi world wishing some sort of life back to the Shtetel, Like it was some glorious place. No amount of fasting, tzdekah and praying will bring back that life and the gloryfing of the Shtetl seems to only harp on the positive side , not the Pograms, the severe povery and other really bad things that happend there.

Being we are here, we have to adapt and failure to adapt will have consequences, exactly what those consequences (Both positive and negative) are may not be apparent at this time and may not be known for a few generations.

Just throwing this out and not saying this will or wont happen. As charedim become more and more of a percentage of Israel and a majority at some point, the secualarists could leave turning the country back time to an agrian economy, however one before modern time and food shortages would become common and perhaps Israel would become one of these places whose economies depend on foreign aid and the benevolence of other countries

It was part of the crime of brutally killing someone, It wasnt just feeding the dog

Basically it was killing someone and showing no respect for the Meis as well. About as depraved as you could possibly get

When we must tear toilet paper on shabbos, don’t tear on perforations in order not to cut to size.

You missed the point, Which is a worse tearing D’Oraisa toilet paper to clean oneself or a brutal murder and disposing of the body in a horrible way.

Most people would certainly say murder is worse, but the punishment is worse for tearing the toilet paper

If you go by the punishment then ripping the toilet paper is worse since the punisment is segila . Killing someone I belive only gets Hanging

I dont think the issue is people who are not halachically jews, the issue is people cannot PROVE they are jews

You really have to take people’s word they are jewish, especially people from not charedi (In charedi communities, everyone sort of knows everyone are knows someone who knows someone) communities where people sort of come and go or whose familes might have been in the US before World war 1

using money to pay for some offense is an old idea. Its done all the time. If someone is killed for example you can sue the killer (Done famously with Ronald Goldman and OJ Simpson) , its not going to bring back the victim, but it does give at least a little something to the victims family

A yeshiva is supposed to be a Makom Torah and a place of Kedush and a Kiddish hashem.
A yeshiva that protected a child molestor and then uses things like bankruptcy, changing owners and other really Legal, but not proper ways not to pay their victims is not really a place of Kedusah and Kiddish Hashem. I

Its really not that successful, in fact many Kiruv organizatiions today are more focusing on OTD people than people who were never religious

One of the issues is like them or hate them reform and conservative at least put at least a spark of judaism in people (At least they had some exposue , even if it was wrong) today with the decline of reform and conservative people dont even have that and going to services is a foreign idea

in reply to: Is Aish too Zionistic to be Effective? #1775796

The problem with Kiruv is generally they are unsuccessful, very few non-relgious really want to be frum. Some want some connection with Judaism and people mistake that with wanting to be frum. Especially because many people have lives that make it almost impossible to be frum (Like they are married to a non-jew or have non-jewish children or non-jewish parents) . Many people might want to go to Shul once a week and maybe learn about some judaism, but that all they want

The only reason chabad is a bit more successful is they are willing to look the other way and dont demand total compliance, So they consider someone who drives to shul every shabbos a success story (They do not condone such behavior, they look the other way and maybe say that its wrong to do so in a nice way, but they do not fire and brimstone them)

Also generally Chabad Rabbis (and their wives) are much more open and friendlier than other rabbis so they can get more people

The changes did not occur in the Shtels, they occured in the cities. When one wanted to go OTD you left the Shtel for either the big city or the US. More than half the jews in Warsaw were not religious in 1939. Other cities were similar. I belive the secular jews held the power in Vilna (Which is why Rav Chaim Ozer never became the chief rabbi of Vilna)

It is the halacha to destroy the idols in the Hindu temple, but it would likely do more harm than good, Meaning you would have to go to Jail for doing it and pay restitution for the damage plus the communal harm would be bad
