There are larger jewish populations in NY, LA, Miami, Philly & Chicago than Boston. Yet none of them have a Rebbe
zahavasdadParticipantBelz , Satmar , Ger etc are all cities in Europe.
Last I checked Boston is in the united states and while I could be wrong, I dont think there is any other Rebbe named for an american city (Who is the New Yorker Rebbe, Who is the Brooklyner Rebbe)
There is nothing wrong with that, just unusualy especially considering how large the US jewish population is, especially in NY
zahavasdadParticipantjust didnt have a chance sometimes
What if the persons wife was in the hospital (say after giving birth) and he was home with the rest of the kids . He had to play “Mr Mom” for a few days while his wife was in the hospital (Lets say it was December when days are short)
He has to wake up his kids feed them send them off to school . Take care of the kids who are too young for school. make Lunch for the ones at home. Make Dinner for the other ones and by the time he could catch his breath it was dark out
zahavasdadParticipantI have always found it fascinating there is a
Satmar Rebbe
Ger Rebbe
Lubavich Rebbe
Belz Rebbe
And a
BOSTONer Rebbe
Which doesnt belong….
And it isnt like there are Brooklyner Chassidim, Miamiers or Lakewooders to compliment the Bostoner
zahavasdadParticipant……And doesnt taste as good
zahavasdadParticipantIn Vermont you can tour the Ben (Cohen) and Jerry (Greenfield)’s Factory and see how the Ice Cream is made , they give you some at the end and then there is a big Ice Cream Stand to have some Ice Cream
zahavasdadParticipantIn an earlier time heavier women were considered more attractive since it meant you were rich and had enough to eat
zahavasdadParticipantI hope the mods allow this
I had a friend, who was in yeshiva. We used to hang out alot, go to peoples house for shabbos and I used to say many of the things people here said (this was before the issue of marriage came up).
He seemed very down and very depressed, One day I sort of guessed what the situtation was , and I was floored.
We are not that close anymore, he did come to my wedding and I did ask him to come alone and look like and act like everyone else (which he complied) but I did learn a lesson. Do I understand everything he went through, no. Would I choose this lifestyle for myself no.
However I also learned that such people are not the people you see on TV or might see on the Subway
zahavasdadParticipantIf NY is such a sick place to live why are there more frum jews in NY than anywhere else in the world
zahavasdadParticipant@benLevi
Seperate but Equal is inheritely unequal
If someone is blind, they make do with their lot in life and if someone has those inclinations they also have to make due in life
zahavasdadParticipantI know of a few too and some even got married to a member of the opposite gender. Was that really fair to the spouse. Do you really think they were happy about divorcing their spouse and likely seperating themselves from their children.
How about the normal spouse. How do you think they feel that they were married to such a person.
zahavasdadParticipantIf you are worried about your kids playing with their kids
I seriously doubt too many of them are moving to Borough Park or Flatbush. Williamsburgh maybe. but thats it
zahavasdadParticipantThere are no goyim on your block with kids??
Did you kids ever meet one and want to play with them?
The reason they want marriage is because of rights that come with marriage.
You have the right to inherit your spouses estate
You have the right to put your spouse on your health insurance
You have the right to file a joint tax return (with a lower tax rate – this is not availabel at this time because thats federal not state)
You have the right to make medical decisions for your spouse
zahavasdadParticipantBTW its not just a jewish thing. Many Korean stores were known from their culture to put the change on the counter and felt nothing of it.
People were used to having the change put in their hands and felt the money on the counter was rude, even though it wasnt
zahavasdadParticipantPeople do not choose this lifestyle. Do you really think someone would choose to behave in a way that most people think is disgusting , immoral or otherwise strange.
zahavasdadParticipantIf 2 people have been together a long time (say 10 years) and one of them gets sick and has to go to the Hospital. And the family of the sick one does not like the lifestyle that was chosen
The family would have the right NOT to let the well partner in the hospital and sick their sick partner
zahavasdadParticipantA car cannot consent, a person can
zahavasdadParticipantWhen you go into a jewish store I supposed you exepect MORE from the store than normal, if you go into a goysih store and they are rude or not rude or not nice , you just ignore it. But when you go into a jewish store I guess you expect more so if the clerk treats you (without niceness or rudeness) you are upset
I also think when you go into a goyish store and the clerk is a female, they are told to look you in the eye , smile , and say thanks .
Frum women are not supposed to do this and are generally supposed to say as minimal as possible to the male customers. This is not rude but it seems like it when compared to a goyish store.
As a test talk to a friend, Ask him to look you in the eye ,smile and make some small talk, then ask the same friend Not to smile, look away from you and say as minimal as possible. You will notice the difference.
zahavasdadParticipantThe bigger point should be sometimes things become jaded and entrenched.
Not every kid can or should learn the same way, sometimes other methods are needed.
Perhaps there are kids who cannot be a learner, but can play an instrument why should this skill be lost
zahavasdadParticipantWhen you get a little older and I’H you get married and have kids, 1 hour S.E. will not be possible and if you feel that you havent done the proper davening unless you spent an hour doing it, you wont feel right even though you will have other responsibilities.
Its much easier to change sooner rather than later
zahavasdadParticipantSuez
zahavasdadParticipantYALX
zahavasdadParticipantI believe (at least for men anyway) Shema is D’asaysa and S.E. is M’drabanam.
zahavasdadParticipantIf you spend 1 hour with S.E. how much time do you spend on the rest of davening like Shema
zahavasdadParticipantSussex
zahavasdadParticipantAre you staying in Monmarte or near the Pletzel. There are many hotels in Monmarte. Monmarte is a big tourist area
zahavasdadParticipantThe law is in NY everyone 14 and under must wear a helmet, but even older its safety, You will see most adults wear helmets now.
If the kids see the parents do it they will do it too, I took my daughter to a very loud place and made her put ear plugs in her ear and she wanted to take them out, But she saw I put them in as well and she did not take them out as long as I had them in.
zahavasdadParticipantThe Bronx
zahavasdadParticipantThe jewish parts of paris are the Pletzel and Monmarte.
When I was there the main hascha was Beth Din D’Paris. There is a famous deli in the Pletzel called Goldenbergs (or Goldbergs) it is NOT Kosher. even though every other place around it is (Its old time Kosher Deli)
The jews of paris are mostly Sephardim from places you are not used to seeing jews from (Algeria, Tunisia and other parts of North Africa) but they are probably the nicest jews Ive ever met
June 23, 2011 4:39 pm at 4:39 pm in reply to: Kula Creep – The Creation and Use of Non-Existent "Kula's" #779744zahavasdadParticipantWhen one uses google, this website can be found easily, any views expressed on this site appear prominatly in google
zahavasdadParticipantIf I cant give I dont go, I do not feel its proper to go unless I give a gift.
A simcha costs $50-$100 or more a plate and its not fair if I dont contribute in some manor.
zahavasdadParticipantPeople condemn those who send their kids to public school BUT
What about if the kid is Special Needs and the tuition can cost $40K a year
I know quite a few who send their kids to public school because there is no way they can afford that money and discounts are hard to get
zahavasdadParticipantSt Croix
zahavasdadParticipantHow does it affect you that someone you dont know, never met, never will meet and only heard about does something in their private home.
Trust me they arent going to Borough Park, they will stick to their neighborhoods.
As pointed elsewhere a Buddist temple bought a shul, that DID affect you. So why not go protest Buddahism.
I dont see a yeshiva becoming a shrine to Sodom anytime soon
zahavasdadParticipantAvodah Zorah is also prohibited according to the laws of Bnei Noach and I dont see anywhere here going to protest a Hindu or Buddist temple (Assuming it wasnt sold be Young Israel)
zahavasdadParticipantOur great health care system
I HAVE insurance and its decent, Blue Cross is about as good as you are going to get.
I had to go to the ER the other night , The ER visit has a Co-pay of $75 and I will get bills from the ER doctors (because they dont take insurance) that I will have to fight with the insurance company to pay.
I then had to pay $25 in Co-Pays for the medication, remind you I HAVE INSURANCE that I pay $7000 a year for (and thats the subsidized amount, not the real amount)
zahavasdadParticipantWhat does need to be corrected
Lets say someone wants a Glatt Kosher “union” and the Hashghca tells the wedding hall if the ceremony is done they will remove the hasghcha, so the wedding hall tells the couple they cant have the affair there.
So the couple sues the wedding halls for discrimination.
The caters and halls need to be protected if they refuse to have such affairs and might cause them to lose other business
zahavasdadParticipantThere are legal considerations when it comes to marriage.
For example you can file a joint tax return, You can be on your spouces health insurance. You have the right to make medical decisions for your spouce. You have the right to inherit your spouces assets.
zahavasdadParticipantActually more people than you know think that way,
zahavasdadParticipantHalifax
zahavasdadParticipantFor boys it might be tougher though
Since yeshiva can go until 9pm , Obviously there is no work Friday night or Shabbos and there is Yeshiva on Sunday, they dont have time to get a part time job
zahavasdadParticipantIts a little hard to do with the moderation
Alcatraz
zahavasdadParticipantAppomattox
zahavasdadParticipantIf you are doing a chessed you dont have to do anything you dont want to. (If you are getting paid thats another issue)
If they had a DIRTY toilet and asked you to clean it, would you (on a chessed).
You are doing them a favor and you should only do things you are comfortable with
zahavasdadParticipantYou dont learn the value of a dollar unless you earn it, you appreciate it more.
zahavasdadParticipantSorry wrong thread, meant to be in teens thread
zahavasdadParticipantYou dont learn the value of a dollar unless you earn it, you appreciate it more.
zahavasdadParticipantThey will not last long, They cannot compete with the parking lot at Aarons.
Unless they have cheap prices which they dont
zahavasdadParticipantNew Sussex
zahavasdadParticipantHas the Bostoner rebbe lost any kavod because its legal there too
