If someone is smart enough and with good enough grades to get into Yale (Or any other Ivy League School) then he does not belong in Queens or Brooklyn College

Also Queens College because its mostly a commuter School, there is less partying going on and more studying .

Queens College has Kosher food at most events, there is a Kosher Cafe and other Kosher food available.

The Professors are also more open to issues relating to jewish holidays like no exams during Sukkoth.

Queens College also accepts some credits from yeshiva in Israel as college credits

I am sure Brooklyn is similar, but since I went to Queens I can vouch for it better

I eat meat, but you do need to check how the animals are taken care of, it IS inhumane.

Cows are given cow feed that contains cows (Thats how Mad Cows diesase is spread, cows are not canabalistic animals) Chicken Coops are barbaric, the chickens are so couped up they peck at each other.

Veal is an animals that is chained up so it never moves.

Foie-Gras is a goose that is force fed.

Kids feel pressured from classmates and teachers to go to Israel, if all your friends are going and your favorite teacher says to go. You want to go.

But the reality is not all kids are ready. Some are mature to go and others are not.

My personal advice is the following. It IS alot of money and I dont know your financial situtuation

IF you can afford it, take a trip to Israel and see her.

If you CANT afford it, try skyping with Webcam that way you can have an interactive chat with her, Its the next best thing to being there.

Go to Seminary in Israel is ALOT differnet than going to Seminary in say Cooperstown (Eurphimism for any sleepaway , but somewhat local school)

If someone went to seminary in Cooperstown and felt homesick, they could come home for Shabbos, You cannot come home for shabbos in Israel.

Sometimes its better to slowly walk into the water rather than jump

This is not about sons or daughters

Not everyone at age 18 is ready to go on their own to a foreign country with possible strangers.

I was strongly encouraged to go to Israel for a year and I refused and frankly it was the best decision I made, I was not ready to leave home yet (I went to College and lived at home, I was not ready for sleep away college either).

Kids should go when they are mature enough to go.

On a side note I did donate blood over the summer, first time i did that in a long time and I am a member of the Bone Marrow transplant registry.

They thought they had me as a match (Ashkenazic Jews are easier to match) and I had to re-submit my DNA, but I guess I was never a match, but I would donate my Bone Marrow

Why have this the day after a 3 day Yom Tov ??

Between Rosh Hashana and Shabbos if you wanted to you could connect with those people who you wanted to (Assuming they lived near you) and if they did not, you would have to call them after Shabbos to re-connect

People go to Shul on Rosh Hashanna and Shabbos, they go visit friends on Shabbos (Or go to the park) etc.

Holy Roman Empire Is Basically Germany , Austria and Prussia. Most of Prussia is NOT in Germany anymore.

There was a competition who would Germany re-unite under Austria or Prussia and Prussia was the winner and Austria was left out.

Germany was greatly shruken after WWI and WWII and much of prussia became part of Poland and Russia (Many Cities were known by German name now have a different name like Danzig which is now Gdansk Poland ) and Koningsborg which is now Kalingrad Russia

Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach once saw an old man dragging a table on Shabbos while a young man stood by and walked next to him.

He asked the young man why he stood there and watched. The young man said My father holds by the Eruv and I do not.

After it happend I did check and there are definatly opinions who said it was permissable.

Also even more opinons said it was permitted to salt the ice as well and some said it was only permitted to salt the ice.

And this was even in places without an Eruv.

Hatzolah does have someone man the board 24/7 even on Shabbos and even if there are no calls coming in. Obviously that person could man the board even if no phone calls

No I didnt need any therapy and I asked the person where I fell to pay my damages and they gladly did (I only asked that that pay co-pays and a few incidentals)

I will admit I can be emotional about stuff and I know people feel differently than I do on stuff here.

I will say I would rather break shabbos and get an averia so that someone does not fall or get hurt. Let hashem decide if I was right or wrong.

The food Chumras that I have I would never ask anyone to follow them (Like I dont eat Dairy Salad Dressing) and if somone served me Dairy Salad dressing either I would quietly not eat it or make sure it was a dairy meal

Maybe you miss the point, there are different levels of Pikuach Nefesh, there is direct Pikuach Nefsh, Someone is having a Heart Attack NOW , there there are people on a Ventalator who would die without it.

Then there is indirect or unintential cause of Pikuach Nefesh. Lets say there is no electricity and one day you need to call EMS and because there is no electricity you cant call EMS, BUT most times you dont need to call, but the one time you need to call, you really need to call and if you couldnt call, someone might die .

This is just food for thought.

Of course Doctors, Nurses , other vital Hospital employees would need to work.

Most people would not fit into these catagories

In Israel its the Charedim who use generators, the more modern use the normal electric grid on Shabbos.

For those who use the Normal Electric Grid there is obviously some good Heter , I havent heard any Posek who ruled those who use the grid are committing Chilul Shabbos

Somebody has to work the grid, otherwise you will have major problems

Actually I always wondered what would happend in an All Charedi society on Shabbos

You cant shut down everything for Shabbos

You Need people to monitor the Electrical Board for the Electric Company (There ARE people who need Electricity to Live like people on ventalators and Hospitals)

You Need people to man the 911 call center (or whatever you have instead)

You need some pharmacies to be open for emergency drug supplies

You need police , fireman and EMS workers on call

    etc
