Even in Riverdale I belive the Hebrew Institute is the smallest shul of the orthodox places there.

He is basically insignificant even in his own community

I think the article gives more creedence to YCT than it merits.

Frankly I have never heard YCT ever mentioned in publically shul or in private conversations. ONCE when the Rabbat came out was even Avi Weiss mentioned.

I hear more about YCT here than I do anywhere else. I wonder if some are just pumping them up.

I do think YCT is to MO what Netueri Karta is to Charedism. Even the leaders have the same name WEISS

There’s NOTHING like learning from a good old fashioned sefer, taking in the scent from the binding, drinking the delicious words thirstily, feeling the pages in betwen your fingers. E-Sefer? doesn’t even sound geshmak.

I am sure some said the same thing when the printing press was invented. There is a big difference between a manuscript and a printed book.

Today it sounds a little nutty, but in a few years everyone will have it and it wont seem so unusual anymore

Think of how many Seforim you have and how many you actually use on a regular basis.

I know people who have hundreds or thousands, there is no way they can use them on a regular basis

I can it now, everyone in BMG learning in Chavrusa with the iPad or Kindle and when a Shaila comes up, they can easily go through their other seforim on their eBook reader and settle the question quickly.

Seforim will be much easier to obtain.

Doesnt matter if Apple was a Johnny come lately, they made in mainstream

Kindle is by Amazon, but the entire eBook genre whether iPads or Kindle (or Nooks) can be a boomlet for Seforim.

how many people DONT buy seforim because they are expensive or take up too much space.

iPads (and Kindle and Nooks) can many Seforim even MORE accessable than the printed copy

While its still in infancy. iPads open a whole new area for Seforim.

Think how much Seforim cost. How much does a Shas cost?

You can download SHAS for Kindle or iPad for 99 Cents

You can download Tanach for 99 cents too

How many MORE seforim could you have between costs and space (Seforim take up space) if you could store them all in your iPad (or Kindle)

Why does the average bachur in BMG (or any yeshiva for that matter) need a cell phone, even without texting capability?

There is a High School in Manhattan called Stuyvesant High School it is right by the World Trade Center. They banned Cell Phones, but some kids secretly had them

When 9/11 occured parents were frantic to know about their kids because its so close to the WTC. Those that had clandestine Cell phones were able to call their parents and also let friends use their phones to call their parents.

The school has since changed the policy and allowed kids to keep cell phones, but must turn them off

I was in lakewood a few weeks ago and I was talking to someone about eBooks . Kindle iPad etc

I asked him if any of the bochrim use them instead of actual seforim. Especially with the price of a ebook Gemorah costing 99 Cents. You can save alot of money by using an iPad or Kindle

The Mets have had a couple though, including Scott Schoeneweis and Sean Green.

Ike Davis is Jewish (His FATHER is NOT-Jewish)

Side note Alan “Shlomo” Veingrad was an Offensive tackle for the Packers and Cowboys and became a Chabbadnick after he retired . You would never know he was a Pro Football player the way he looks now.

He organized the first Glatt Kosher Tailgate at Lambeau Field

After World War II many jews wanted to come to the US. People were only allowed if they had a sponsor (Like a Relative) Many did not have relatives or sponsors so sponsors had to be solicited.

Religious people were rare in those days and many more frum people wanted to come to the US than sponsors available.

So an appeal was needed to conservative and reform people to sponsor survivors and they did come through

Pollard has to appeal to the US President for clemency. He is the only person who can release him.

Usually such clemencies are given by the President After the election in November for his successor and January when the new president takes office.

Clinton gave out a whole bunch of such clemencies like Mark Rich and someone from Kiryat Joel.

Bush only gave one to some border agents who killed a drug dealer (Pollards name DID come up during that time)

Ive read Art Scroll Biographies and regular biographies and the art scroll are not written in the same way. There may be historical license as opposed to fact with them.

Pretty much all say the same………..

At 3 years old when everyone else was learning Alef Bais, the Gadol had already finished Chumash

At 10 years old everyone saw the Gadol was an Iluy and he finished SHAS for the first times

At 13 years old the Rosh Yehsiva gave the gadol Semicha and learned Chavursa with him and at 18, the Rosh Yeshiva gave the gadol his daughter for marriage.

There is lots the parents can do visiting.

They can make sure the place is safe and the pictures in the brochure are REAL , Make sure the place is in a safe area.

Maybe they can interview girls who are already there

They can inquire about Shabbos etc

The mother can go, There is no need for both parents to go.

If you can afford $21K, it makes sense to spend a few thousand and check out the place BEFORE you send your kind (You dont need to go for the next kids).

For anything in life you would check BEFORE you buy, Would you buy a car sight unseen. It makes total sense to see the sem before spending $21K

Why dont people visit the seminary or Yeshiva BEFORE sending your kids there.
