zahavasdadParticipant
Florida has Mosquitoes bad.
People who camp there are supposed to use a Mosquito net.
zahavasdadParticipantEven in Riverdale I belive the Hebrew Institute is the smallest shul of the orthodox places there.
He is basically insignificant even in his own community
zahavasdadParticipantI think the article gives more creedence to YCT than it merits.
Frankly I have never heard YCT ever mentioned in publically shul or in private conversations. ONCE when the Rabbat came out was even Avi Weiss mentioned.
I hear more about YCT here than I do anywhere else. I wonder if some are just pumping them up.
I do think YCT is to MO what Netueri Karta is to Charedism. Even the leaders have the same name WEISS
zahavasdadParticipantDont Forget Possums
Those things are nasty
zahavasdadParticipantIn this season of Tisheri, Instead of pointing fingers at anyone
How about invite one to your house for Shabbos..
zahavasdadParticipantThere’s NOTHING like learning from a good old fashioned sefer, taking in the scent from the binding, drinking the delicious words thirstily, feeling the pages in betwen your fingers. E-Sefer? doesn’t even sound geshmak.
I am sure some said the same thing when the printing press was invented. There is a big difference between a manuscript and a printed book.
Today it sounds a little nutty, but in a few years everyone will have it and it wont seem so unusual anymore
zahavasdadParticipantThink of how many Seforim you have and how many you actually use on a regular basis.
I know people who have hundreds or thousands, there is no way they can use them on a regular basis
zahavasdadParticipantI can it now, everyone in BMG learning in Chavrusa with the iPad or Kindle and when a Shaila comes up, they can easily go through their other seforim on their eBook reader and settle the question quickly.
Seforim will be much easier to obtain.
Doesnt matter if Apple was a Johnny come lately, they made in mainstream
zahavasdadParticipantKindle is by Amazon, but the entire eBook genre whether iPads or Kindle (or Nooks) can be a boomlet for Seforim.
how many people DONT buy seforim because they are expensive or take up too much space.
iPads (and Kindle and Nooks) can many Seforim even MORE accessable than the printed copy
zahavasdadParticipantWhile its still in infancy. iPads open a whole new area for Seforim.
Think how much Seforim cost. How much does a Shas cost?
You can download SHAS for Kindle or iPad for 99 Cents
You can download Tanach for 99 cents too
How many MORE seforim could you have between costs and space (Seforim take up space) if you could store them all in your iPad (or Kindle)
zahavasdadParticipantI dont think the Haskallah movement could have survived without the printing press
zahavasdadParticipantDo you condemn Johannes Gutenberg too?
Think how many Neshamas have been ruined by his invention, How much Prizus etc is possible because of him
zahavasdadParticipant“i doesnt need a cell phone”
Oh you got me
Thats how we talk with my hommies in the hood
zahavasdadParticipantWhy does you need a cell phone?
I dont need a cell phone
Everyone who wants to bother me like my wife and mother-in-law needs me to have a cell phone, I could live without it
zahavasdadParticipantWhy does the average bachur in BMG (or any yeshiva for that matter) need a cell phone, even without texting capability?
There is a High School in Manhattan called Stuyvesant High School it is right by the World Trade Center. They banned Cell Phones, but some kids secretly had them
When 9/11 occured parents were frantic to know about their kids because its so close to the WTC. Those that had clandestine Cell phones were able to call their parents and also let friends use their phones to call their parents.
The school has since changed the policy and allowed kids to keep cell phones, but must turn them off
zahavasdadParticipantis this world a BETTER place, or is his inventions a direct/indirect CAUSE for the filth/frivolousness/perversion/corruption of today’s society?
One could say the same thing for a Printing Press
and I am not a Steve Jobs fan
zahavasdadParticipantHe was a Rasha
He fathered a child out of wedlock and refused to admit paternity for years.
He used chinese slave workers to produce iproducts not paying them any wages yet profiting greatly from their labor
zahavasdadParticipantI am not sure Gabe Kapler is actually jewish, I heard his mother wasnt.
I also heard Ryan Brauns mother was not jewish either
It could be that Amare Stoudamire of the Knicks is jewish, His mother has jewish roots, but not sure what those roots are
zahavasdadParticipantIt seems Hebrew is iffy on iPads and Kindles
There are PDF’s however of the Gemorah and Tanach’s that they will read
The eBooks on Amazon are PDF’s
I have a Siddur for my Android Phone that is just a siddur that was scanned in
zahavasdadParticipantI was in lakewood a few weeks ago and I was talking to someone about eBooks . Kindle iPad etc
I asked him if any of the bochrim use them instead of actual seforim. Especially with the price of a ebook Gemorah costing 99 Cents. You can save alot of money by using an iPad or Kindle
zahavasdadParticipantIn the wikipedia entry for Spell Checker and Grammar Checker there is a Big picture of me saying it was invented for this person
zahavasdadParticipantWhy would someone say unfortunatly that they went to college?
zahavasdadParticipantThe Mets have had a couple though, including Scott Schoeneweis and Sean Green.
Ike Davis is Jewish (His FATHER is NOT-Jewish)
Side note Alan “Shlomo” Veingrad was an Offensive tackle for the Packers and Cowboys and became a Chabbadnick after he retired . You would never know he was a Pro Football player the way he looks now.
He organized the first Glatt Kosher Tailgate at Lambeau Field
zahavasdadParticipantOn Amazon
The Gemorah or Tanach is 99 cents for Kindle
zahavasdadParticipantFast Minyanim are usually for people who work and must go to work at a certain time
zahavasdadParticipantWhen people drive to the Chabad House and the Rabbi asks the person where they live and the answer suggests the person lives too far away to have walked (The Rabbi does not ask directly DID YOU DRIVE)
zahavasdadParticipantWow. The “world revolves around New York” mentality that some people have is amazing. And what about the Jews in Detroit?
The Lions are 4-0 , Who says Miracles dont occur anymore
zahavasdadParticipantAfter World War II many jews wanted to come to the US. People were only allowed if they had a sponsor (Like a Relative) Many did not have relatives or sponsors so sponsors had to be solicited.
Religious people were rare in those days and many more frum people wanted to come to the US than sponsors available.
So an appeal was needed to conservative and reform people to sponsor survivors and they did come through
zahavasdadParticipantPollard has to appeal to the US President for clemency. He is the only person who can release him.
Usually such clemencies are given by the President After the election in November for his successor and January when the new president takes office.
Clinton gave out a whole bunch of such clemencies like Mark Rich and someone from Kiryat Joel.
Bush only gave one to some border agents who killed a drug dealer (Pollards name DID come up during that time)
zahavasdadParticipantDidnt Eliyahu commit an Averiah L’Shem Shamayim?
zahavasdadParticipantIve read Art Scroll Biographies and regular biographies and the art scroll are not written in the same way. There may be historical license as opposed to fact with them.
Pretty much all say the same………..
At 3 years old when everyone else was learning Alef Bais, the Gadol had already finished Chumash
At 10 years old everyone saw the Gadol was an Iluy and he finished SHAS for the first times
At 13 years old the Rosh Yehsiva gave the gadol Semicha and learned Chavursa with him and at 18, the Rosh Yeshiva gave the gadol his daughter for marriage.
zahavasdadParticipantThere is lots the parents can do visiting.
They can make sure the place is safe and the pictures in the brochure are REAL , Make sure the place is in a safe area.
Maybe they can interview girls who are already there
They can inquire about Shabbos etc
zahavasdadParticipantThe mother can go, There is no need for both parents to go.
If you can afford $21K, it makes sense to spend a few thousand and check out the place BEFORE you send your kind (You dont need to go for the next kids).
For anything in life you would check BEFORE you buy, Would you buy a car sight unseen. It makes total sense to see the sem before spending $21K
zahavasdadParticipantI stand corrected about El-Al being a AA partner.
zahavasdadParticipantIf Speaking to Ahmadinejad doesnt make you a Moser, then explain exactly C-Halacha what a Moser is……
zahavasdadParticipantIn the american way, before you send your child to a College, you usually visit the college before enrolling.
Why dont people visit the seminary or Yeshiva BEFORE sending your kids there.
zahavasdadParticipantMeeting with Ahmadinejad, Does not make you a Clown, It makes you a MOSER
Clowns meet with other clowns, not presidents of counties that have Nuclear weapons
zahavasdadParticipantI wonder if people are confusing AMEX points with AA Miles.
You can cash in AMEX points for a ticket on El-Al, but you cant cash in AA Miles for El-AL
zahavasdadParticipantActually I also heard the story that the Chofetz Chaim’s wife ran the store and when the entire community heard who ran that store they all wanted to shop there and he had it only opened for as much time as needed for his basic living expenses
zahavasdadParticipantIn Pre-war Europe anyone who spoke to the authorities about other jews was known as a MOSER
zahavasdadParticipantNK arent equal to Nazis, they are equivelant to the Judenrat
zahavasdadParticipantYou are not allowed to sell your miles, if they catch you they might void them.
Ask them to book you on Iberia Airlines , British Airways or Malev you will have a much better shot of getting a free ticket
zahavasdadParticipantYou cant …
If you want a Free ticket to israel , Its the hardest free ticket to obtain, but your best chance is a Partner of AA thats a European Airline and transfer in Europe
ELAL is their only partner
zahavasdadParticipantA Half a rasin n Celery
September 26, 2011 7:31 pm at 7:31 pm in reply to: Only ONE Photograph of the Chofetz Chaim?? #812937zahavasdadParticipantI know that R’ Shlomo Zalman Auerbach also allowed pictures and even posed for them
September 26, 2011 6:57 pm at 6:57 pm in reply to: Only ONE Photograph of the Chofetz Chaim?? #812933zahavasdadParticipantWas the Chofetz Chaim the only gadol who was against photos?
It seems nowadays most if not all gedolim allow pictures of themselves.
Wikipedia has 2 photos of him, One is from the Shtel Scene close up and the other he is partially cloaked
zahavasdadParticipantMO do NOT have women as Baalei Tefilla, Change ANY part of davening including Shelo Asani Eisha, They usually use the Art Scroll Siddur which is used in most Charedi shuls (Except the MO ones are usually the Hebrew English ones and the Charedi use the Hebrew only ones)
September 26, 2011 3:15 pm at 3:15 pm in reply to: Only ONE Photograph of the Chofetz Chaim?? #812923zahavasdadParticipantWas he against people taking photos of himself??
September 26, 2011 2:32 pm at 2:32 pm in reply to: Only ONE Photograph of the Chofetz Chaim?? #812920zahavasdadParticipantIf you do a Google Search for Chofetz Chaim photograph, it will come up
Its a scene from a Shtel and he is sitting by the door of a house, he is partially blocked by other people
zahavasdadParticipantSince you are from across the pond, I might Suggest Brooklyn College instead of Queens college while both are actually in frum neighborhoods, Brooklyn’s is larger
