And a Thank you to the Schools that are open that are making me drive 30-40 mins EACH way to take my kids to School making me miss davening on BOTH Thursday AND Friday and likely making me waste most of Friday

I HAVE tried to get a carpool, but have failed (They normally take a bus, but there is no BUS)

INSTEAD of keeping the kids home on garbage days like a week before Peseach or 3 days off for Purim, they Should be closed when there is no bus and the parents are home

I think one of the issues is “Bittul Torah” If one studies the American Civil War. I really cant see any Kefirah in that, however I guess some think thats Bittul torah and should not be studied because one should be learning Gemrah instead

Mada means Non-Torah studies, Stuff Like Math , Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) Liberal Arts (History , Sociology , Psychology) general Art etc

One can debate certain issues of stuff like Science like Evolution if thats OK, but certain Newtonian Physics (Stuff Like Gravity , etc) are not against Torah IMO

There is confidentiality between a priest and a layman but NOT between a Rabbi and a Layman.

This actually went to the New York State Supreme court. A woman was seperated from her husband and told her rabbi she stopped going to the Mikvah. The Rabbi told the husbands rabbi and lawyer.

The woman sued the rabbi for clerical malpractice and the NY State Supreme court ruled that the rabbi was wrong for what he did, but there is no idea in judaism of confession like there is in other religions. So the woman was out of luck

`Dont ask your Rabbi and the reason is he might be required to report you to the police himself

However if you go to your lawyer he is not allowed to report the crime as there is a confidentiality agreement between client and lawyer but NOT between congregant and Rabbi

The reason its called “Black friday” because in Accounting Terms losing money is called being in the “red” and making money is called being in the “black”

Most retail stores lose money most of the year and make money the day after Thanksgiving.

If “Black Friday” was such an unjewish idea why does B & H Photo (Largest Charedi owned store) have black friday specials and if shopping is December is non-jewish, Why does Eichlers have Chanuka Specials.

But why did they have to take a private school route?

Because Lakewood is the only district in NJ that the majority of students are in private school, if they didnt take those routes there would be no work

Approx 75% of students in Lakewood go to Jewish Schools

What I heard was, There is a law in NJ that buses must be provided for private schools whenever they are open.

Last Memorial Day there was no buses and they gave the drivers off, One of the residents who knew this law complained to the school board saying this was illegal and the lawyer for the school board agreed.

Obviously this law was made for minor holidays like Columbus day or Martin Luther King day, but the School board is enforcing this for Thanksgiving which is a major holiday for familes and they do seem to be deaf to the drivers complaints inclusing saying he will give the drivers pumpkin pie.

For those who are against sports, what Pareve things are OK when you have down time.

If you can learn 16 hours a day 7 days a week kol tov, but most of us cant and need a break to prevent burnout.

The drivers never had to work Thanksgiving before. I think the ruling came down from the City education department lawyer (Who is Frum) as is the owner of the bus company.

Also 6 of the 9 school board members are frum. Out of 24,000 students in Lakewood, 19,000 go to yeshivas.

This also shows back door yeshiva tutition help from the government. The Buses are free and paid for by taxpayers

    Want a female Hero?

    Irena Sendler

if you dont know her story you should

She was a woman who lived in Warsaw, She saw what was happening to the jews and decided to try to smuggle out of the ghetto children (children especially baby girls were easier than others)

She kept their indentities in a jar in the hope of returning the children to the parents after the war.

She saved about 2000 children from the Warsaw ghetto.

About 1943 she was caught by the Nazis tortured and sentanced to be executed. Her executioner was bribed and she escaped. She hid for the rest of the war.

She had a limp for the rest of her life for when the Nazi tortured and broke her feet after she was caught.

There have to be Rav’s at games , Who do you think is watching the Haschgacha. Since they serve meat , there must be a Mashgiach Timidi.

And at most kosher restaurants the workers are not usually jewish, But almost ALWAYS I see the workers at the games to be frum young jews either young men with Kippot or occasionaly young women who are obviously frum.

    Zd,

They also give hashgoha to restaurants with mixed dancing

No they dont, they are actually quite strict on many things, ie they will not give Haschgacha to places open on Shabbos owned by a Goy (Even Ice Cream Stores)

In fact when a potential convert goes to Rav Belsky, He tells them to go to the Vaad of Queens (They are the ONLY place in the US that has a real convert program)

However if you make below a certain amount, you dont actually have to pay taxes.

I dont know anymore what Babysitting or camp counselors make, but its likely less than $1000. There is no income tax liability for that amount

@Yossi your Amen story is NOT silly, I have heard similar stories before from people who left (and did not come back) even my own kids tell me their teachers tell them such stories about Amen etc.

I will say this much, for all the OTD stories I have heard, there does seem to be one common thread, Non-conformism (I know many hate the ism’s)

In many circles you are supposed to be 100% conforming to the “norm” and if you are not you are pushed aside.

Not everyone can or will follow everyone else.

I had a friend who taught in a Satmar School

He was not Satmar, but was Modern Orthodox, the kids you to call he “Shaygetz” luckily he had a thick skin and laughed it off.

I also have another friend who works for a chassidic company, she is the only not chassidic person there and I was joking with her and asking if they call her the “House Shiksa” , apparently they DO think she is the “House Shiksa” and its not so funny
