I dont know all the details, but I do know this Adam though he was punished as the days got shorter, On December 21 He saw the days started to get longer again and realized he was forgiven.

He then celebrated December 21 as a holiday, It became an avodah zorah holiday celebrated for a week

Fast forward a few thousand years. followers of a new persecuted religion wanted to celebrate the birth of their savior which was forbidden in Rome.

As Romans were celebrating the december 21st holiday which actually lasted about a week, The followers of the savior decided to celebrate the birth at the same time. The normal Romans would think they were just celebrating solistice and not think anything of it.

So actually December 25 is actually related to Adom Harishon

<em As far as tweens going to shul, there are plenty of 10, 11 and 12 year old kids who go to shul on Shabbos with their fathers and spend there time out in the hall playing games. These kids need to learn to sit with their fathers and daven, not just go to shul.

So What I see plenty of Men 20’s,30’s,40’s,50’s who go to shul on Shabbos and talk to everyone about everything except davening and they talk to them IN SHUL

At least the kids go outside

Dont EVER force people kids to go to Shul, they will hate it and usually find out ways to avoid it when they are old enough to do so.

Why do you think there is a candy man in shul and not a Malkos man in shul

jan 1 actually symbolizes nothing and the year 2011 also symbolizes nothing

According to the NT he was born in the spring around passover time during the reign of Herod. Herod died in the year 4 BCE

So he was not born on December 25, Did not have a Bris on Jan 1 and was not born in the year 1

Also from the Wikipedia you quoted

By an interesting coincidence, this folk-melody was also the first utilized by (Martin) Luther for his German chorales. He set it to his “Nun freut euch lieben Christen gmein

Which is forbidden according to many Poskim. See Mishna Berura and Biur Halacha on 154:11

Obviously its allowed since almost all of us use that tune

The Lubavichers sing the Napoleon March (La Marsailles) as a “chassdic Niggun”

I heard one sing it once and I asked him why he was singing the French National Anthem and he said it was a “Lubavicher Tune”

There is nothing wrong from the source of the tune, A germanic Hymn tune was made into something Kadosh, its really no different than taking a church and making it into a shul

The X in Xmas is not really an X, its really the Greek letter Kai which means our savior in Greek

Those who say xmas instead of christmas are mistaken because they are the same thing.

If you dont want to say that, then say December 25th

Just because something was done in the past, doesnt mean it should be done now

In the past a 13 year old boy could marry a 12 year old girl.

And I met about 15 years ago a woman from somewhere in the former soviet union who told us she was married at 15 1/2 (She was married in her country at 15 1/2, She came here after it was legal)

An Anti-religious person might attend YU because he is anti-religious NOT Anti-Jewish and might want to learn about jewish traditions and spend college time with his fellow tribesman.

Besides YU has an excellent reputation so you can attend and still get into the top law and medical schools

I just found the video on youtube and there was nothing wrong with it.

What about the Persume Nissa. Imagine a secular jew watching this , and the only holiday songs he knows are related to christmas and now he sees a bunch of jewish boys singing about Chanukah.

Now he feels good about lighting the Menorah and maybe doesnt put up his Chanukah Bush this year.

If one person did not put up a Chanukah Bush beause of this appearence it was One thousand times persume nissa than a Menorah on 13th Ave

In past generations and among many Chassidim today marrying your cousin was considered optimum and the best choice.

In the last 50 years or so, Marrying your cousin is almost considered incest, people are almost disgusted by the whole idea of cousins marrying (1st cousins marrying in New York IS Legal).

Most people are so repelled by the idea.

it is extremely hard to make a parnossa in the jewish Music sector

Yes Avaraham Fried does, but I think thats because he does weddings and Bar Mitzvahs because thats where the easiest money is

I know someone fairly big in this sector and he told me most of his concerts he does are “Benefits” meaning the promotor expects him to do it for free or much cheaper. Look at Fried, Lipa & MBD most if not all you see are Benefits and not For-Profit concerts.

Look what happend to Lipa Schmeltzer and the Big event. You have these issues as well

How many CD’s do you think these guys sell.

At some point Matisyahu realized there was just not enough business in the solely jewish. His Youth Album sold more than 600,000 copies. If you add up all the Fried, MBD, Lipa, etc COMBINED it does not equal anywhere near that. He had to leave his J-Dub label because they could not handle the volume

He is playing a weeks worth of concerts next week in Brooklyn at larger venues than Fried could get. and I dont think Fried can play often on a Tuesday Night and get paying customers.

The Doorman is a differnt than most, because they help you in ways most people dont, like taking in your packages from UPS etc

A proper tip of a doorman will ensure he will go out for you in the coming year, Its expected as part of the job you will tip.

Many of these other positions, they LIKE tips, but arent nessasarily expected

Music is a personal taste, I personally like his music and dont really like Chazzanut (Frankly many dont, many times when a Chazzan will go in front of the Amud, I hear Groans – I am sure you have too)

He did NOT denounce his religiousity, He said he wasnt Chassidic anymore.

What makes me sad about this is maybe he couldnt be a singer and religious, Have we gone so chumarism that people are forced to make the wrong choices . People here have condemed him for his choice of career and music, but thats what he was given a gift of, If he is condemed in our community, He might leave (Dr Laura Left , Dave Draiman also left)

The reality is the frum lifestyle is expensive between large families, Yeshiva Tuition, high cost of kosher food and the higher real estate costs in religious neighborhoods.

Jobs you will get with a college degree pay higher and the average college graduate makes about 25% higher than a non-graduate. While one could pursue manual labor in many cases the pay is lower.

Because about 25% of Americans have a college degree, if you dont have one you are at a disadvantage.

It might be the Enterprise is the largest employer of college graduates, but if you are not a college graduate, they are not hiring you.

I do believe that a YU/Stern education is not really worth the $31K a year ($120K or more total) but an education from CUNY (Queens, Brooklyn, Hunter) is about $30K you will almost definatly get that back

The reality is most people are not spending tens of thousands of dollars and 4-5 years (or more) of their life to learn about Comparitive religions, Philosophy , evolution , Freud , gender studies or other disciples that might be objective.

Almost everyone (And not just frum jews) are going to college to get a better job. You might have heard about the guy who caught a home run by Derek Jeter, he had $100,000 in College debt. One does not amass that kind of debt unless you think it will pay off.

Yeah I took an Anthropology course that the professor once brought in someone with questionable ideas and I took a yiddish literature course taught be a recontructionist rabbi (Almost everyone in the class was frum) It met some college requirement.

But those were the exception and for most people those classes are the exception as well
