The assumption here is that if something is too easy people will forget, however people forget if something is too hard many people will give up in desperation

I have not commented much because of OOT post and I dont want to seem unsympthetic or dont think he is doing alot of meserasd nefesh he is.

However historically people were in various circumstance, If you were starving AND had kids who were also starving and on the verge of homlessness (Dont forget there was no welfare state, if you didnt work, you didnt eat) Would you keep shabbos , if that was the only job available. Whatever your answer is, many people given their destituteness choose that job on Shabbos. Thats a rough test, your children are starving and you might lose the roof they live under. As much as your dedication to yddishkeite, some people just had to make another choicee because they had no other choice, it was work or starve

Do a little research and you will see how many jews actually converted to christinity, In Spain its likely more jews converted to christianity and stayed christian than either became marranos or left

There are also some very famous people who come from conversos or converted themselves among them Nostradamus, Banjamin Disraeli and Madeline Albright.

The sister of Emma Lazarus converted and there are lots more that arent even famous, it is estimated that up to a 1/3 of Spanish and Portugese people have jewish blood

In Germany the first son was allowed to marry, but each subsequent son had to pay a bigger and bigger tax so if you were the fourth of fifth son the tax was so high nobody could afford it. Many converted just so they could marry Life was tough for Jews in Germany before they were emacipated I think in ther 1850’s or so

The rights of jews to earn a living were quite limited in Europe, Many professions were closed to them all one had to do was convert and those economic opportunities were open to you. (And it created alot of resentment among old christians, that all of a sudden new christians got the same rights as they did, becoming a christian didnt always end anti-semitism

Why do you think jews left the Shtetl for the big cities and the USA at the turn of the century, it was economics, they could not make a living in the Shtel.

Jews with limited economic possibilities has been the #1 reason in history why jews went OTD.

Many people were faced with the choice of starving or converting to christianity and they chose to convert (Alot more jews converted than you were led to belive, more converted than allowed themselves to be killed)

There could be very good reasons why someone would want a stop work order. Putting construction equipment on your property makes you liable for any damages that occur

Yeshiva Chachmei Lublin was actually given back to the Jewish community and is now partially a hotel and restaurant (Its also called Hotel IIan) , Its actually quite a large building and they have to make money to keep up the building (even so its a little worn down inside), You can stay at the hotel if you dont want to support the Poles, its main drawback is that its in Lublin which isnt where most of the places you want to go are (Lublin is 2-3 hours from Warsaw or Krakow) ,m However by staying there you are supporting the yeshiva that is there, they even do the Daf Yomi there now.

I do not know if there are any jewish guest houses in Warsaw or Krakow (Krakow is the main jewish area of Poland today) However given how many religious jews go to Krakow, it is possible there is some sort of jewish hotel there

I dont know what attractions you plan on visiting. Most people go to Auschwitz , Majidanek, Yeshiva Chachmei Lublib, The Warsaw Ghetto, The Noyzk Synagogue (The only shul to survive the warsaw Ghetto) , Shindlers Factory and the Polin , the jewish history museum of Poland. Many also go to Treblinka, Sobibor, Belzec , Nowy Sanz (Sanz) and Góra Kalwaria (Ger)

I have been to Poland and Auschwitz recently

Auschwitz has no admission fee so you are not supporting them that way, Besides its not free to Maintain, there is alot of security there , metal detectors, guards , tour guides and other maintainance to keep the place safe. Ill assume you are buying Kosher food (Actually quite easily available in Poland, especially in Warsaw and Krakow) . You are buying them from Jews so you really arent supporting the Poles

You are supporting them by staying at a Hotel and flying in, however not all all Poles support this policy especially in Krakow which is the basic center of Jewish life in Poland today

There are very few survivors left, notbody to tell the story, the only witnesses to the attrocities are the camps themselves and I can tell you its not the same as pictures, Nothing can prepare you for a visit to Auschwitz, you just have to go. You will not forget it

If you are going to say the Germanic people are Amalek, then England is Amalek, (English are many times called WASP’s meaning Anglo SAXONS)

And for that matter the US is Amalek too as the largest immigrant group to the US are people from Germany and the second largest is people from the UK meaning and there are plenty of others from other Northern European countires like The Netherlands (Dutch) New Amsterdam AKA New York City, Danish, Swedes and Norwegians

If people were really concerned about this, they wouldnt post on a blog, they would go out and try to get these students to enroll in yeshivas and try to raise the money to pay for it. Even if these parents have the money, its possible they will still refuse to pay the tutition for whatever reason

The biggest strengh of Charedim is their dedication to Yiddishkeite, but it is also their biggest weakness

They are willing to do whatever it takes to send their kids to Yeshivas , however most people unfortuantly are not willing to do so. How many charedim are willing for forgot new cars and vacations (Normal cars and Vacation, not luxieries) to send their kids to yeshiva and forgo good secualr education in order to do so.

Unfornatly many non charedim are not wlling to make those sacrafices and in fact quite a number of kids who attend MO schools arent even religious (Kids Charedi schools would very unlikely to accept) however in order to accept these either Non-relgious or semi-religius kids the schools need to have education that is equal to the secular education at a public high school and that costs money

If you ask many of the non-religous or semi-relgious parents would they send their kids to public school or yeshiva if an Ivy League school was at stake and going to yeshiva might not get them into Ivy league, they will send to public school

in reply to: Is the fact that 40% of the public school is Jewish any less of a tragedy #1473363

So the irony is, that the MO schools are pricing out some public school kids so that they can compete for public school kids.

    Unfortunatly that is true.

The more Charedi the school, the tutition tends to be cheaper.

There are many reasons for this, They pay the teachers lower (MO schools try to pay a more competitive salary and pay them ontime) they also have larger classes. Ive heard of some charedi girls schools with 35-40 in a class. An MO school would never allow this

The MO schools are also competing with public schools for education , meaning they have to offer classes like AP and extra curricular activies than more charedi dont, otherwise some parents wont send their kids there

There is a well known “Activist” who is from a very chashuv family and a decendent from the Baal Shem tov who one decided he was a woman and has decided to “Help Chassidish people in this prediciment” as his lifes goal

The person never left the Yeshiva and still “became a woman”

    zahavasdad

I also have a cousin who is actually a graduate of a well known Queens Yeshiva. Today he like all of his brothers is far from Yiddishkheit and is toeva also

Going to Yeshiva is no guanrtee that wont happen. I know of several cases of frum women who married such men and were devestated when they found out

    zahavasdad
    Participant

There were 3000 students in that school , If 40% of them were jewish, that means 1200 of them were jewish

If you think Oorah has the money to pay the yeshiva tuition at $10,000 a kid, thats $12,000,000. just for that one school. Even Oorah doesnt have that kind of money and actually the tution would be more as these kids (and parents ) would expect amendies that yeshiva kids dont have like Band , Football team and cheerleading.

In the late 19th century there was a famous wild west show called Buffalo’s Bill Wild West show where people “acted out” scenes from the american west

One of the people in the show was a woman named Annie Oakley who was a marksman. The show toured in Europe and one night she went out drinking, the next day they did a show with Kaiser Wilhem in the audeience and he dated her to shoot a cigeratte out of his mouth, Hungover she shot out the cigarttes. Later when the war started she sent him a letter offering him to do the “trick” again.

Had she missed and she had shot Kaiser Wilhelm its possible there would either never have been a WW I or the Germans might have won the war and Nazism, Commumism and Islamism would never have happend. So maybe someone should go back and get Annie Oakley to “MISS” and shoot the Kaiser

I think you are missing the point, life was different back then and the Gemra , Torah medrashing etc are not history books, you might discover something that the ancients might have not even thought was a big deal, but would be a big deal today

Here is another example. Raw sewage was a problem until the advent of modern plumbing, except for a short time when the romans had some sort of sewage system. Ancients were probably used to the smell and the sight of it that it was no big deal and there was likely some raw sewage not far from the Beis Hamigdosh. To the ancients it was not big deal, but you would likely notice it and it might change your view on things

Its not Hasghcha pratis, its just a fact that not everything was written down and some things maybe not so positive would cloud your view if you ever found them out

Lets just say someone went back to Har Sinai and saw Moshe Rabeanu wearing Tfillin

Firstly how did Moshe Rabeneu look, Did he have Peyes or not, and if he did what did it look like

What about his Tfillin? There are actually more kinds than Rashi or Rabbenu Tam. What if his tfillin were neither of those and something else

Another assumption is made here as well, Lets say you went back to the Beis Hamingdosh or Har Sinai and discovered something that was not previous known, something that could have an effect on modern day Judaism.

Dont think just be visting and not having any effect , doesnt mean you dont have an effect

    1) I actually dont have any ancestors who came to the US after the holocaust (They either came before World War 1 or just after)

    2) If you did save a few lives by convincing someone to leave Europe before the war, you would still exist, its only if you convinced someone NOT to leave and that person was an ancestor would there be a problem

The problem IMO is not Bein Hazamin, but other “free time” .

In the goyish velt Saturday and Sundays are days off and people can spend family time together and dont need as much “Bein Hazamin”, In some Modern frum communities Sunday is that day that can fill the void

So a week vacation along with Weekends can fill the 4 week Bein Hazamin

Shabbos doesnt count because many of the boys arent home for Shabbos and when you have the whole family couped up in the house, it doesnt always make good company and people get cabin fever
