Figures a Brit would confuse SOCCER with REAL Football
zahavasdadParticipantNOTHING
In Fact they sell Kosher Food at Giants Stadium (Vaad of Queens), The Eagles Stadium and the Ravens Stadium (Star-K I think)
zahavasdadParticipantThere are laws of discrimation in this country and unless its a job where you can say no females are allowed (Like say a Rabbi or mens room attendent) you HAVE to allow females to drive the buses if they are qualified.
If the Buses are paid for with Tax Dollars by the city of Lakewood (as opposed to private funding by parents) even more so as the buses are contracted by the City of Lakewood who must obey the laws of the State of NJ and federal laws.
zahavasdadParticipantI have no connection to either of these institutions.
But I see lots of Lashon harah posed here about YU and YCT.
January 20, 2012 12:38 pm at 12:38 pm in reply to: Would you post NEGATIVE Info about yeshiva/Sem/Camps?? #1193687zahavasdadParticipantJust to be clear, this was not aimed at any specific institution.
About Negative info, yes it could be abuse, but not limited to. I was also referring to things like bullying in the dorms, Teachers who could really care less about the students.
Even such things as the institution is on VERY shaky financial ground (important to know when you are asked to cough up $20G in advance)
January 19, 2012 8:50 pm at 8:50 pm in reply to: Would you post NEGATIVE Info about yeshiva/Sem/Camps?? #1193680zahavasdadParticipantTelling the truth about a place that is bad, is called Lashon Harah
Teling a LIE about a place (Stuff that isnt true ) is SLANDER
Slander is NEVER permitted (At least that i know of)
and lashon hara is only permitted when halacha permits it. And I have no interest in paskening that.
January 19, 2012 6:29 pm at 6:29 pm in reply to: Would you post NEGATIVE Info about yeshiva/Sem/Camps?? #1193676zahavasdadParticipantSyag,
Publishing houses are supposed to employ copy editors and fact checkers to make sure certain errors dont occur.
A proper copy editor can make a terrible book into a great book. Proper following of the rules of writing in english are very important.
January 19, 2012 5:59 pm at 5:59 pm in reply to: Would you post NEGATIVE Info about yeshiva/Sem/Camps?? #1193673zahavasdadParticipantIf everything is Issur, you could never give an honest opinion of stuff.
I dont read novels, so I dont know what thread you are talking about, but obviously some are better than others and I am sure some are not good at all.
Ive read jewish books and some are better than others and some are unreadable. I have one book from a well known jewish publishing house that is unreadable.
I wanted to read the book and I had to stop after about 30 pages, Other people saw the book on my shelf and wanted to read it and they too gave up. What issur would it be to mention this book or the publishing house.
I think the publishing house should take proper critism and correct the errors in this book (Related to the proper way to write in english, Grammar, Spelling, Sentence , paragraph chapter development (It was paragraph and chapter development that made it unreadable)
Very few things in life are 100% good and 0% bad . its much more nuanced
January 19, 2012 5:07 pm at 5:07 pm in reply to: Would you post NEGATIVE Info about yeshiva/Sem/Camps?? #1193664zahavasdadParticipantWhats the point of the question being asked then?
If someone posted on this website that they were giving a Business Opportunity with a great investetor named Bernie Madoff and you knew he was a crook, wouldnt it be proper to say so.
Its the same with these Yeshivas’Seminaries/Camps
People are plunking down money and in some cases lots of it.
Wouldnt it be fair to hear honest reviews ?
Yes, in many cases it would be toeles and therefore muttar. The mods do not feel like researching each post and asking the appropriate shailos. Therefore, it will not be allowed. You may make your own judgments therefore about the quality of information which comes from these threads. And feel free to post this disclaimer in each one of those threads.
zahavasdadParticipantWhere in the Torah does it say women are supposed to go to the Back of the Bus?
zahavasdadParticipantI am not a Chofetz Chaim guy, But I would think that Rav Hanoch Liebowitz ZT”L who was a Godol in his own right. I am sure he knew the Halacha
You seem to question a Gadol to pursue your own agenda.
zahavasdadParticipantIs it Kosher to discuss the play that the Giants scored on the last play of the First Half
zahavasdadParticipantSome want the benefits of E’Y without paying the price
zahavasdadParticipantSeriosuly Ive been in some of those places and there are no sidewalks AND the drivers speed.
You need to bench Gomel when you cross the street in these places
zahavasdadParticipantWe blow 100 Shofar Blasts to remember the 101 cries of the mother of Sisera.
zahavasdadParticipantAfter KIryat Yam Suf Hashem forbid the celebrating by the Angels of the dead Egyptians and we dont say tachanun because of it.
If Hashem could have digity for the Egytians, we can have digity for the Taliban
zahavasdadParticipantDont bet on the wrong horse
zahavasdadParticipantthe only true Levush Yehudi is the “Badge of Shame” first forced upon the jews in the Venice and Rome Ghettos of the middle ages and then copied by the Nazi’s
zahavasdadParticipantActually the Satmar Rebbe’s opinion is the minority
zahavasdadParticipantthere is a major yeshiva , Chofetz Chaim that does NOT want its Bochrim to wear beards until they are learned enough
January 12, 2012 6:48 pm at 6:48 pm in reply to: Do you think I could escape to a Mexican Beach? #843025zahavasdadParticipantThere are several “Mexicos” the Border towns with the US is where all the Drug violence occurs. Also Mexico City itself is not safe.
The Beach towns however is co-ordned off and most locals are not allowed there.
There isnt a drug violence problem in those places.
Also tourist places have flitered water so as long as you drink the filtered water you are ok.
zahavasdadParticipantYou can always get around internet filters.
I had a yeshiva guy at my house for shabbos and he told me at his yeshiva there was filtered internet and youtube was blocked and all the guys knew how to defeat the filter.
The only way to successfully block internet is to self-block and self control
zahavasdadParticipantWe were going to Bermuda and we had a box of Kosher Food. We got the special treatment at customs and the customs agent was about to confiscate out food.
I had another friend who went to Australia and the customs agent also wanted to confiscate his food.
Luckily being NICE to the agent instead of giving them a hard time, we were able to keep the food , my friend was not so lucky
People are looking to pick a fight and think they are being discrimaed against.
zahavasdadParticipantIf you need to know exactly who NK are and where their money comes from, go to their website.
How many jewish websites are in ARABIC?
zahavasdadParticipantAsk a Rov, Is Haagen Daaz Traif and ask a Rov if Bacon is Traif.
The answer you will get is Haagen Daaz is Kosher, but not to my (or your) standards, but its kosher and someone who eats it is not doing anything wrong. Not real Rov will pasken someone who eats Bacon is doing anything but an aveira.
Now this very well could be a political issue the Rabbanut vs the O-U (Read Modern Orthodox)
zahavasdadParticipantFrom the Jerusalem Post
in the ENGLISH, It clearly says its NOT KOSHER, NOT its not to MY STANDARDS

<em > Stores that continue to sell the ice cream could lose their kashrut license.
[kashrut] [license]
Milk produced by non-Jews without Jewish supervision was forbidden by the sages of the Talmud due to a concern that it may be adulterated with milk from a non-kosher animal.
Although arbiters of Jewish law, in particular Rabbi Moshe Feinstein (1895- 1986), have permitted the consumption of unsupervised milk if supervised milk is significantly more expensive or unavailable, it is seen as a less ideal, and the kashrut authorities in Israel do not permit kosher certificates to be issued for products using unsupervised milk.
Others, however, still forbid unsupervised powdered milk.
But here, we are living in Eretz Hakodesh [the Holy Land]
zahavasdadParticipantI have been in London (Not Gateshead) and I remember seeing armed guards at the head of the Shuls in Golders Green.
I know others who have been to shuls elsewhere in Europe (Like Sweden) and if you want to attend services (even for Shabbat) you must register in advance as there are guards keeping people out.
To say Europe is safer to practice judaism than Israel is untrue, Ive been to bother and its ALOT safer being a jew in israel than WESTERM Europe (I’ve never been to Eastern Europe)
zahavasdadParticipantEven if one opposes NK, they are harmless. They don’t kill, don’t commit arson, don’t beat people, don’t carry weapons.
The Sikkirim are an outshoot of NK
zahavasdadParticipantOf course. I’m not opposed to his right to complain. I just think it is a stupid complaint.
You must not like Ice Cream
zahavasdadParticipantPapa.. according to the jpost article the head of kashruth at the rabbanut said
Granted he probably said it in Hebrew and not English, But in ENGLISH he is not saying HIS standards , he is saying KASHRUTH standards. Perhaps someone who can find the exact Hebrew quote and can clarify if he meant HIS standards (ie Chalov yisroel) vs KASHRUTH (ie Chazer)
zahavasdadParticipantIf you ask a Rov if Haagen Daze is traif, I dont think you will get a yes answer, They will say its not Chalov Yisroel
Rafi Yochai head of the Kashruth Division of the Rabbanut when asked about people who liked Haagen Daze (I understand its $9 a pint in Israel) said Do you love G-D more than ice cream.
If it was traif, then maybe he would have a point, but its OU-D
zahavasdadParticipantI would have posted the links, but I dont think Its allowed
It was posted on the Jerusalem post website. You can look there
or google
Haagan Daze Kosher and the Jerusalem post article will come up
zahavasdadParticipantShalom Task Force and Tikvah/ Ohel is not there
zahavasdadParticipantIts amazing how careful people claim to be when it comes to such things as Kashruth , Bittul Torah , Prizus etc
But ONCE the government says you have to pay customs , taxes and duties there is no shortage people giving advice on how to cheat the government.
Tax evasion IS Genevah,
Nobody likes paying taxes, but it is the law and Black Market economy is illegal for a reason
zahavasdadParticipantGedolim who visit the US usually are fundraising
January 8, 2012 4:30 pm at 4:30 pm in reply to: Very disturbing, please only kind people read. #842324zahavasdadParticipantI hate to say but I agree with Gefen, DO NOT SPEAK TO A RAV..Many WILL side with the father.
Please go to Tikvah or Shalom Task Force . These are run under proper auspices and according to Halacha
January 8, 2012 1:48 pm at 1:48 pm in reply to: Very disturbing, please only kind people read. #842311zahavasdadParticipantOhel has a unit for domestic Violence called Tikvah
I hope the mods let me post the address and number

zahavasdadParticipantActually most of the Fairy Tales are dark with people dying, stealing bad peopel, People starving etc.
They were written in a differnet time when life was darker in general and tough and the fairy tales reflected that.
Most of the Grimms Fairy tales are very dark, other than the famous ones even Snow White has a witch who wants to kill her.
Do you know the kids game “Ring Around the Rosey”?
Did you know the game is actually about the Bubonic Plague?
Ring Around the Rosey is a dark ring you get when you get the plague.
A posey was thought to be a cure of the plague
And Ashes Ashes we all fall down, means you die.
zahavasdadParticipant@ Health Avi K -“Popa, anything which is needed for the morale of the troops is part of pikuach nefesh.”
Avi -Did you ever learn that things like Giloy Arayos are not allowed to be Oiver even if it’s “Pikuach Nefesh”?
The Torah allowed Soliders to marry a non-jewish female captive (Ivri Cananan ? I forgot the exact Hebrew term)
zahavasdadParticipantCinderella, I hope you know you name comes from a NON-JEWISH Grimms Fairy Tale called Cinderella
The Grimms have lots of other Fairly tales some well known like Snow White and the Sever Dwarfs and some not so well known INCLUDING an ANTI-SEMITIC one called The Jew Among Thorns.
zahavasdadParticipantAt most FRUM jewish weddings when the Chosson and Kallah are introduced for the first time, there is a tune that is played
It is either The Final Countdown by Europe or Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty
You can look them up and hear them and you will recognize them immediately
zahavasdadParticipant@chocandpatience
Thats what I was told in London, The jews there (In Golders Green) when I asked about what was Kosher, they told me they had some sort of list that they took from.
I was only in Paris for a couple of days and It seemed there were more stores there than London.
zahavasdadParticipantSomeone gave a story how his Rebbe told him about the amazing power of Amen and before the Siyum hashas he practiced all night and couldnt sleep so 40,000 people could say Amen Yeha shema rabba.
He was certain moshaich would come then and of course it didnt and he went OTD.
Sorry if I forgot who told the story
zahavasdadParticipantSeriosuly I think in Europe and Australia they rely on lists and ingrediants and not Hechsherim
zahavasdadParticipantJohnny Walker & Jack Daniels are Kosher and has no Hechsher
zahavasdadParticipantRav Elyashiv “Banned” The Kamenetzky book which is in ENGLISH which he does not read.
I dont know if he read Mishpacha or not before he banned it, but I am fairly certain he did NOT read the Kamenetzky book
I am not 100% certain, but I think the Slifkin books are in english as well
zahavasdadParticipantCharedim tend to be very isolationist. They do not mingle with outsiders much. So outsiders dont get much of an opinion of them.
One can say mingling with dati leumi, Chilonim and goyim is bad so positive or neutral exchanges are rare.
They ONLY time non charedim will generally mingle with non charedim is when they are forced and usually under negative circumstances , which makes it worse and unfortunatly does not help.
Would you have a positive view of a group of people who you dont know personally, but have them throw stones at you?
If there was some more mingling the outside world would realize the stone throwers are not the majority and just a bunch of crazy people, which people will accept.
zahavasdadParticipantDr Epharim SHACH had PHD and taught at YU
zahavasdadParticipantKosher food is easily obtained in Orlando. In fact you can order a Kosher food plan from Disney and they sell Kosher food in the Park
What might be a better idea is Kosher food and services in more exotic locations.
How many frum Jews have gone to Yellowstone, Yosemite , Grand Canyon etc.
Ive been to those places and they are really cool, but forget about a minyan or buying kosher food (You have to bring food with you)
Yellowstone is one of the coolest places on earth and should be on everyones bucket list as a place to see
zahavasdadParticipantThat is the real problem with these bans
Stuff is banned that is not read.
The book Making of a godol was banned by gedolim who do not speak or read english
