Just because you are not used to using am iPad for davening doesnt mean its any differnt.
When printed siddurs first came out I am sure most people had to get used to them, I am sure most had hardly ever even seen a Book.
It will take a few years, but people will get used to e-books and people will see how much better it can be.
Artscroll is making a Shas for iPads and other seforim will follow.
zahavasdadParticipantGo to Youtube and do a search for Kony2012
Its the first video that comes up
zahavasdadParticipantThey could so drunk they could not tell the difference between a Rav and an Iman
zahavasdadParticipantHow did your husband survive prior to the advent of electronic siddurs?
How did people daven before the advent of printed books and everything had to be hand written
zahavasdadParticipantMost Bikers are actually Middle Age lawyers or doctors . Harley Davidsons are not cheap.
Zaka uses a scooter which is just as dangerous as a Motor Cycle
zahavasdadParticipantzahavasdadParticipantIn general the Rabbonim are loath to designate anyone a Mamzer
There was a divorce case in Israel where the man did not want to pay child support for his wifes 2 kids and claimed the kids were not his. They did a DNA test and it showed he was the father of one but NOT the other.
The Beit Din still made him pay child support and refused to terminate his parental responsibilities to this child who really was a mamzer (The reasoning was a child born to a married couple is the husbands child)
zahavasdadParticipantThey are not strict with gittin so there is a problem with mamzeirus.
They were not strict with Kiddushin either so this wasnt a problem

Many of the anti-religious blogs were written by victims.
This is not to say abuse is the main reason for OTD, but its seems the biggest MOUTHS are victims
zahavasdadParticipantIts nasty, why would you want to drink it
zahavasdadParticipantThey are considered Kosher Jews.
There is a Karaite Shul in Los Angeles
zahavasdadParticipantTuition – How much do you pay?
Too Much
zahavasdadParticipantHow do you define/determine the boundries of Halachic Eretz Yisroel?
The Poskim decide that, there are maps you can look up
Beer Sheva is the Southern boundry, anywhere south of Beer Sheva is not halachily required to follow things like Terumah and Maaser , The Eastern Boundry is the Medateranian .
The Western Boundry is somewhere in Jordan. I am not sure if Amman is included or Not.
The Northern Boundry is in Lebanon and Syria, I dont know the exact boundries. I belive Damascus is not now required to hold by Halachot of Eretz Yisroel (Like Teruma Maaser) but will be required in the days of Moshiach.
There are debates of he exact boundaries.
zahavasdadParticipantAccording to many if not Most Damascus is part of HALACHIC Eretz Yisroel
BTW Elat is NOT part of Halachic Eretz Yisroel
zahavasdadParticipantIf your reason for not wearing jeans is because it is goyish, then the same argument can be made about Speaking ENGLISH
zahavasdadParticipantthe reason former Hasids appear on TV is because its a better story than MO leaving.
The reality is MO people are not particulary interesting to TV. They dont look or act different that other people, they talk, work and dress like everyone else. They are not mysterious.
Hasids are more mysterious between their dress, look , speech actions etc are much more different and make great TV.
Its likely most people have met a MO person, but very few have ever met or spoken to a Chasid and riding the subway or shopping at B & H doesnt really count.
Anybody who is different is who they want. They want people like Amish as well because they are so different.
zahavasdadParticipantAccording to most Damascus is NOT Chutz L’aretz
zahavasdadParticipantdifference between 1) muttar and 2) not-forbidden?
Letter of the law vs spirit of the law.
zahavasdadParticipantActually I think I saw somewhere it was muttar or at least Not-Forbidden
It definatly has been debated and the answer is not as clear cut as you think
zahavasdadParticipantNA – Narcotics Anonymous
No joking Ive seen people attempt to “celebrate Purim” using pharmecuticals
zahavasdadParticipantIn addition to the ticket cost ($4-$5 million), include: gas, highway and bridge tolls, purchases at the event.
The organizers dont make money from gas and tolls
They might make money from parking and concessions. I dont know how it works when you rent the stadium if you get a cut of these.
BTW please remember this is an OUTDOOR stadium and if it RAINS, be prepared
zahavasdadParticipantI am 100% against banning books, however I do find this hard to belive, Can you share the title of the book.
I do get that some books some might not like because of themes in the books.
Maybe there is more in the book than the word dear.
zahavasdadParticipantBPT
I dont know about all the tickets, but there are alot of $100 tickets being sold and I am sure there are even higher priced tickets
zahavasdadParticipantWhy is Boy/Girl relationships bad but MURDER is good?
How is it good when there is a train and a murder occurs and everyone hated a man on a train and everyone killed him. ( Murder on the Orient Express)
Hardy Boys / Nancy Drew books yeah, maybe they have relationships, but the mysteries are non-violent
zahavasdadParticipantHow you dress is important
people are correct, I respect people who wear a suit and white shirt to shul on shabbos vs wearing jeans.
However if you are a Plumber and you come to me wearing suit pants and a white shirt, I will not exactly trust a plumber who does not come dressed like a plumber should
zahavasdadParticipantPeople are complaining about the unions
At $50 a ticket and 80,000 attendees (maybe 100,000 since I dont know exact seating), but its 80,000 for a football game
thats 40 Million dollars, I dont know who gets the money for parking, but it costs $15 to park at the Meadowlands.
Ill assume they will be selling food, there is probsably a cut for that as well.
I am sure the Agudah will clear easily 20 Million dollars for this, thats alot more than $250,000
zahavasdadParticipantThere are apps in cell Phones for Siddurs
I use it sometimes instead of trying to find a siddur and I can blow up the print (I prefer large text over smaller print)
There is also a Tehillim App. I am sure there are other apps, but I dont know about them
zahavasdadParticipantYou need to share insurance. Do you have insurance, do you have an HMO or do you have out of network coverage
zahavasdadParticipantIf you dont like the mechitza’s at the Siyum Dont go.
Nobody is forcing anyone to go.
It is their event and they have every right to run it any way they wish
zahavasdadParticipantA bigger issue is also , Met Life Stadium is BIG. It holds over 82,000 for Football, Probably more for the Siyum depending how they set the stage up.
The Parking lot is Huge.
If you are sitting in the upper deck, It has taken me over 20 mins to get from the entrance to the Upper Deck.
If you are going as a mixed family sitting seperate and rejoing after the Siyum you are asking for trouble. Unless you really know the stadium which most who are going dont. There will be lots of lost people especially children.
If you are going to go with family members you might want to consider going seperate as well and meet up at home and avoid parking, Take the Bus or Train
zahavasdadParticipantTickets for the Siyum Cost $54 for Upper Deck and $100 for Lower Deck
I can imagine bringing a whole family to the event costing over $1000.

The Husband has to give her to get, which he seems not to want to do without conditions.
She cant get a get on her own
zahavasdadParticipantI always wanted to go to EGYPT For Peseach and cross the Sinai on Chol Hamoed into Israel

I saw the Shuls with 24/7 Guards in Golders Green (London for outsiders). Ive never been to Gateshead.
I also saw Shuls with Guards in Rome and my inlaws showed me pictures of Shuls in Scandanavia with Guards and Jersey Barriers
zahavasdadParticipantThe growing number of shomrei shabbos is getting totally out of hand. IN Europe, due to haskala and economic difficulty, the number of Shomrei Shabbos was declining. Why are we reversing that trend? American meshugassen!!
Actually the reason for this is higher birth survival rates
Its not unusual to see a Charedi family with more than 10 kids and all survive to adulthood.
In the olden days the women would get pregnant the same number of times but many of the kids did not survive to adulthood.
Secular jews are not having many kids and if they are , they many times are married to non-jews so the kids arent being brought us as jewish.
I belive in the UK , Israel and the US the majority of Jewish Births are from Charedim now.
February 24, 2012 2:51 pm at 2:51 pm in reply to: Post-Yeshiva Dressing for Work and Everyday #853989zahavasdadParticipantI am not the TCG , but I have been to Europe a few times including the UK
I really do like to visit Europe and there is much yiddishkite there especially in England and France. England is really cool and a must visit for anyone who can.
I found it sort of cool hearing people lain the torah with a British accent.
However you dont totally feel safe as a JEW there. Shuls there have Jersey barriers blocking the Shuls. many have 24/7 Security Guards
Many of them you cant go to unless you register BEFORE Shabbos so you can enter on Shabbos (They want to know everyone who enters)
zahavasdadParticipantI was reading in a book by Hanoch Teller about Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach.
the Rav was at some sort of event with MIXED seating and and one of the aveichim complained to the Rav.
The Rav gave the man a sharp slap in dereach eretz and spoke in front of the crowd
February 23, 2012 8:02 pm at 8:02 pm in reply to: New news story- OTD Lakewood woman with 4 kids wants custody #857237zahavasdadParticipantAmerican courts are as corrupt as they get. Whatever problems may exist in beis din, they are thousands of times worse in secular court
Read the Article the GADOL Rav Shechter in Ami Magazine
HE says the Beis Dins are corrupt and he says other Gadols will tell people (privately) to seek recourse in secular courts because the Beis Dins are so corrupt.
zahavasdadParticipantWhat no arsenic coated cookies?
February 23, 2012 4:40 pm at 4:40 pm in reply to: 49.5% of Americans dont pay any income tax #853732zahavasdadParticipantIf you are worried about government “handouts’
DONT live in “section 8 housing” when your inlaws own the house and are your “landlord”
DONT use Foodstamps if you are able to work, Foodstamps are meant for people who cant work as opposed to who want to do something else
DONT accept off the books pay so your declared income is lower than it really is
zahavasdadParticipantIf they’d be doing a good job at it is one thing. Somehow, it’s often the wrong guys answering for us. If they really want to understand why we do things let them speak to a real Talmid Chacham.
Truth be told this is a terrible idea. Look at Chabad. The Rebbe never went on TV himself he knew who to send.
You need people who speak ENGLISH very well on TV with an american accent, who have a nice personality and can really engage the audience.
Rabbi Boteach has this capability, regardless what you think of his idea, he does work on TV
zahavasdadParticipantRead the Book Off the Dereach by Faranak Margolese
There are many stories there about teachers and principles who humilated students and later the students went off the dereach.
February 22, 2012 9:01 pm at 9:01 pm in reply to: New news story- OTD Lakewood woman with 4 kids wants custody #857214zahavasdadParticipantDo a google search on Rav Shechter and the “terrible Bais din system” in Ami Magazine
zahavasdadParticipantThe reality is the biggest Media Market in the world in New York City which is also the home to probably the largest Chasidic communities in the world.
And the reality is seeing a chasidic person on the subway is considered a very normal site in the city. The BQE is the most crowded highway in the city and it passes right under Willimsburgh
People are curious about people who dress, speak and act different or unusual, there is nothing you can do to prevent that, infact being insular only adds to the curiosuity. especially since most have never met a Chasid except maybe at B&H Photo
February 22, 2012 4:52 pm at 4:52 pm in reply to: Wht it is time for Jews to get over the Holocaust #875928zahavasdadParticipantThe Beacon is NOT a YU Newspaper. Its written by students who attend YU.
It used to get some student funding, but due to recent events the funding was cut off and its totally independent.
zahavasdadParticipantJust because something was done in the past doesnt mean it should be done now.
Paddling and Corporal punishment were practiced in the past.
Punishments as a dunce cap, Scarlet Letters etc
And yes I know people who were monsters in school punished for everything and are respectable members of society (and frum) and I know people who were wild, got similar punishments and LIVING with non-jews. I saw a story someone posted how she went to a rock concert in high school and the pricipal called her and all her friends and totally humilated them and she was so disgusted she is now with a “Surfer Boy”
You have to know the kids and what punishment to give.
February 21, 2012 9:10 pm at 9:10 pm in reply to: Memoir called "Unorthodox" and its effect on us #868843zahavasdadParticipantSarah Lawrence (Tuition there is like $50K) was more than willing to give an ex-Hasidic woman free tution. They also probably introduced her to many rich and powerful women
February 21, 2012 8:05 pm at 8:05 pm in reply to: Christie veto's the bill but the threat looms! what should we do??!! #853783zahavasdadParticipantThe veto was ridiculus because anyone from NJ who wanted to get married, could drive an hour or so to Brooklyn Ir Hakodesh and get married.
February 21, 2012 7:58 pm at 7:58 pm in reply to: Memoir called "Unorthodox" and its effect on us #868837zahavasdadParticipantNo lies have been exposed. What has been exposed is anger towards customs.
Calling a woman dirty is not a lie, Its a statement in anger not understanding the ritual
