Some people make incomes off ebay, Amazon, Yahoo and others.

These sites have been filtered. Satmar bans Yahoo for example because there is entertainment news

Ive seen this statement around. The message is for a different religion, but you can make the change

I Love “Yeshua”, its his followers I cant stand

I think sometimes this might be forgotten, Maybe your son Loves Hashem, but there are some “followers” that he cant stand and make he equate one with the other

Actually I have no problem with the price, I just said a fair price. Actually the Siyum which I dont have any issues with the event I think charges too high prices

I have many issues with the asifa, however I do not think they are doing it for the money.

    Nish,

I actually wouldnt be opposed to it if it was an event where there was just a giant musser shmooze, sort of a religious revival event. Maybe a Maggid Shiur give a shiur for all to hear.

With fair ticket prices and nobody forced to participate.

You cant make up your own history

Yes there were many members of Chazal like Rebbe Shimon Bar Yochai who hated the Romans and the Romans Destroyed the Beis Hamingdosh

But you seem to be forgetting Yavneh, where learning occured for hundred of years until Rome itself fell into disarray.

The Romans left Yavneh alone and the Misha and Yerushalmi was written there

I am going to tell you a story I heard

Someone once went to a Rav saying he HATED Shabbos, The Rov couldnt belive what he heard and then the man repeated I HATE SHABBOS.

The Rov asked the man he hated Shabbos and the man said, when I was young My parents spent all week preparing for Shabbos getting the best Fish, using the best dishes, Getting the best meat.

The Rov thought to himself, that sounds like a very nice Shabbos.

Then the man said, Every Shabbos my father would make me eat that Fish, I hated Fish. My father wouldnt let me eat anything else until I ate the Fish. I almost threw up every time I ate it.

Then the Rov understood, He associated Shabbos with the Fish that he hated. And told me you dont have to eat Fish on Shabbos.

I have been to peoples house where Chulent was FORCED on the kids (The Kids didnt want to be Fleshing) , ive been told “Ain Simcha elah Yayyin, Dag and Bassar”

There are lots of places to go with this, But first Clothes are NOT Important. As long as he isnt naked what is the Big Deal. If he wants to wear Jeans SO WHAT.

Where does it say that wearing Jeans is ASSUR?

It doesnt, of course. People make up Chumras and for some Chumras are good, but for other people Chumras are TERRIBLE and have the opposite effect instead of making people closer to Hashem it pushes them away.

You need to seperate Chumras from Halacha. Just like the Father in the Story made his son eat the Fish , The son didnt learn to like Fish which was the intention, The Son learned to hate Shabbos

You really need to read the History books, The Romans even intended to rebuild the Temple under Julian the Apostate around the year 363 , but the Earthquake hit and it was not possible anymore.

If Rebbe was not Pro-Roman why was his good friends with the Roman Empereror Marcus Antonious.

I think also the dispute between Rabban Gamliel and Rebbi Yehoshua was at least partly about the Romans, One of them favored good relations with the Romans and the other didnt.

(I think Rabban Gamliel was pro-roman as he was a decendent of Rebbe…but I could be wrong and have them mixed up)

I was wondering, where did this notion begin that Lag Ba’omer is a relic of a celebration of the Bar Kochva revolt? It actually doesn’t make any sense to me to celebrate it.

Actually it makes plenty of sense

It is unlikely that Rebbi Akiva had 24,000 students (Think how big that really would have been) And its was also was likley illegal under the roman to celebrate the Rebellion.

So they said it was for the “Students” of Rebbe Akiva rather than Bar Cochba Soldiers to bypass Roman censors.

zsdad, The Israeli parades and protests are mostly frei non-Orthodox.

And where do you get this information.

Why not go to the Israel Day Parade and you will see who marches, its mostly Modern Orhtodox Day Schools. The largest contigent at the parade is Yeshiva of Flatbush.

While there are non religous at the Parade, they are by far the minority

The Salute to Israel Day Parade gets over 100,000 people a year almost all are MO since almost no charedim go.

There was a protest in Washington DC on the national lawn for Israel in 2003 I think, Over 300,000 jews (mostly MO) attended, While you could claim the Salute to Israel parade is free, It cost money and time to get to Washington DC. (More than $10 and more than 4 hours of your time)

Also what is charedi, How do you count Chabad. Does someone who drives to a Chabad shul count as Charedi, but goes every Shabbos.

There are very few Charedim outside NY area (Lakewood counts as NY) and Baltimore, Miami as its almost impossible to be one as thing as Chalav Yisroel are hard to get and Yeshiva education not available

Actually Lag Ba-Omer might have been a sad day

In the year 363 Jullian the Apostate emperor of Rome had promised to allow rebuilding of the Bais Hamingdosh. Jullian was the last non-christian emperor of Rome and tried to return Rome to Pre-Christian days.

On Lag Baomer in 363 there was a massive Earthquake in the Gallile which destroyed what was left in Israel and shortly afterwards Jullian the Apostate was killed in Battle and all plans for rebuilding the Bais Hamigdosh were shelved

There is no such thing as free money, If you dont like the options dont take the money.

To expect non-charedis to fight to protect you and support you as well is not tennable especially as the charedi population grows larger.

What happens when more than 50% of the population is charedi not in the army and not working you cant expect everyone one to give all their energy and power to support you.

Do you think Columbia or NYU hires professors based on Nepotism. Do you think teachers hired by YU or The New York City Public School system hire by Nepotism.

Now I am not saying nepotism never occurs in these places, of course it does, but the majority of hirees at these places are based solely on merit. If one or 2 slips though, its doesnt make much of a difference, but at many yeshivas almost the entire staff is somehow related to the R’Y

You would have much better rebbes if they were hired on merit than nepotism. Ones who could actually teach and cared about every boy, not just those who are the “best”

in reply to: Going off the Derech #1181435

Unfortunatly Yeshivas are not run the way most schools are run, even day schools.

Most regular school and day schools, hire people by merit, they ask for resumes and hire the best candidates and fire people who do not meet up to specs about teaching (You have to be qualified and a decent teacher to get tenure)

However yeshivas are not run that way, Rebbes are hired via nepotism (Son, Son-in-law,Brother, etc) of the RY regardless of their ability to teach (I know plenty of people who know torah, but it doesnt mean they can teach, let alone teach teenagers)

But this is the cruz of the problem here, WOW’s son is not going off because he wants to, He is being PUSHED. Why would anyone want to be part of a religion that tells you , that you are a failure.

It has become a negative connotation and very hurtful.

I dont have much advice to give unfortunatly.

A few thought it was a joke, but they admitted they were the minority in Lakewood.

Another thought the internet was evil and the cause of all problems and couldnt wait to go , He couldnt wait for the event and the tremoundous speeches.

    Another just didnt care

The last one didnt really want to go as many of his friends did not want to go either, He doesnt have internet, Its about a 2 hour trip each way to Citifield, but he felt obligated to go and it was chutzpadick not to go especially since BMG was going to be closed. There was a case all over the news about 15 – 20 years ago of a couple in a bitter divorce where the father declared he married off his little daughter in this manner, and refused to disclose to whom. It was an ongoing situation for a number of years. I don’t know or remember what the resolution to that case was, but everyone was all up in arms (obviously

This is where Rav Shlomo Auerbach came in, He had said someone who marries off he daughter like that is a Rasha and not to be belived and it was void
