I realize you are in Israel and Things are different there than here and I am not so familiar with life there, So a MO school which would have been a Plan B here in US would not work in Israel

    Dont cringe by these words

Youtube is a mishmash of videos, some very great to watch

Probably the most interesting that I saw was a video of Munktach from the 1930’s. It was various scenes from the town of Munkatch

It had the wedding of the Munkatcher Rebbe, It had a Mussor speech about Shabbos from the Rebbe, It had a shop scene from Munkatch , It had a Hora Scene and it had a bunch of Kids singing Hatikvah (With the original words that I didnt know existed)

It is sad watching the kids singing Hatikvah as you know in about 8 years (Not sure when the video was shot) all of them would be dead.

I should partially apologize, it wasnt clear to me if you lived in NY or Israel. I actually was going to suggest sending him to Israel.

Since you live in Israel, why not send him to grandparents in NY (If this is possible)

I hope you dont take this the wrong way as I have been following this for a while

I guess you didnt have a backup plan, it seemed your plan was he would “recover” , you would pray , say tehillim and he would go back to the yeshiva and love it.

You never seemed to have a plan b, even though they were suggested and now plan A seems to have failed you are lost.

There is nothing wrong with a Plan B, hopefully you can make one quickly

Now it was all mine. Over the next few years, I wasted countless hours sitting at that computer. I spent many hours with that old computer and tried to fix it myself on countless occasions, and with time I became a real expert in computers. Today, my skill has led me to become a computer technician. My father did not dream, at least not until after my wedding, that this is what his actions had brought me to. But for me, it was a real lesson about how one can never be too careful. Though he had decided to take the warnings to heart and throw the computer out, it was already too late. I had found a way to outsmart him.

And exactly how did he “Waste his Time” He learned a valuable skill. You dont learn these things overnight, it takes time

Its a terrible thing that some seem to say that if a teenager doesnt belive or act exactly as the parent wants, they are suffering from some sort of mental illness.

If everyone belived and acted the same that would be a mental illness, we are all trained to think individually

Its too bad much of History isnt taught

In the Late 1800’s there was a massive Catholic immigration into the US and the Protestant population didnt like it. The Catholics preferred their own school system to the existing public School.

The Protestants then passed constitutional amendments in most states including NY and NJ prohibiting taxpayer dollars to going to religious schools (But they really meant Catholic, but it applied to all religious Schools) These amendments are called Blaine Amendments and its the reason today vouches for yeshivas are illegal in most states (The amendments said religious schools, not catholic Schools)

I am sure you heard stories of people being forced to work on Shabbos and if they did not they were fired. It was the unions in the 1930’s especially that pushed for the 5 day work week inadvertantly allowing Shabbos observerance much easier as most jobs did not require you to work on Saturday (Or Sunday for that matter) anymore.

In the 1960’s there was the civil rights movement and while the African Americans, Alternative Lifystyles, Hispanics and other demanding their rights, it turned out Jews also got their rights as well. No longer were Jews barred from most places. Jews were pretty much free to do as they pleased, Live where they want, vacation where they want etc. The American Charedi lifestyle would not be possible without the civil rights movement

    +1 Working Harder…

100% on the money, Places take degrees seriously, And dont take degree mills very highly or places that dont have standards (As they define them) You might not agree with the standards, but they are there

Dont waste your money on such places, Even online college are a waste of money. Their credits are not worth the paper they are printed on

I dont recommend YU, not because of its Hashkafa, but because of the cost. Last I heard I think it was about $40,000 a year. A four year degree will cost at least $160,000 (Probably Higher)

Queens or Brooklyn College is about $5500 a year and the 4 year degree will cost you about $25,000. You need to earn a living to pay those costs. Its alot easier to pay back $25,000 than $160,000

And no a Tuoro degree is not as good as a YU or Queens/Brooklyn College degree. If you are going to invest time and money into a degree , get a decent one

Thats why people were adopting from Russia and Romania, but it seems those avenues have been cut off in those counntries as well.

Burning after death is not a jewish idea, Nowhere does it say you will burn downstairs for being a sinner except in the other religions philosophy.

I am sure this occured as I saw a copy of the letter,

I dont know if this letter should have been sent or not, but I do think the parents should have been asked. A parent should know his daughter if she should read this or not and if its a positive or negative

If I see 3 people doing the same wrong thing, They are all telling Lashon Harah.

A Secular Jew, A MO jew and a Charedi Jew . I dont consider the sin the same. Call me a hippocrite or not, but the person who claims to be a “True Torah Jew” I expect more from them , than someone whose doesnt say that. When you put yourself on a Higher madrega I do expect more from you. Just like I expect more from the President than an average citizen.

As far as the incident with Hatikva, I dont know anything about that. I have not heard of it. I will say this the rav should have known his congregation and understood how they felt. If he felt he could not abide by that he should not have taken the position

If you live in a singular Neighborhood this activity occurs more frequently than if you live in a mixed community.

If you look at Williamsburg where its almost all one community this happens alot, but if you live in Lower East Side, Flatbush , Queens , Far Rockaway/ 5 towns or teaneck for example where there is more of communal mix it doesnt occur as much as you are living with different groups together and people realize there are different hashkafot.

It is a shame communities are becoming more and more Homogeneous

By making the accusation that a certain community is more guilty of loshon horah than another, you’ve just been motzi shen ra on that community.

If the community engages in such activity then they ARE guilty

And there are plenty of communities where this does not happen. I made it my business to live in a community where this does not occur. I like to be left alone and dont need nosy neighbors telling me how to live my life

And belive it or not I get along with most of my neighbors, they all know me.

I dont know about the CEO of IBM, She is a woman not a man wearing jeans, but there are plenty of photos of Steve Jobs (Apple) and Bill Gates (Microsoft) wearing jeans. There are also plenty of pictures of both George Bush and Barack Obama wearing Jeans.

Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook is famous for wearing hoodies

But the reality is its not a White shirt and suit or jeans, there is an in between, Most men today wear Khakis (I think thats what its called). You need only go into Macys and see what I mean, Also most men wear Polo or Ralph lauren type shirts. I am not sure what they are called, but they have sleeves and collars but are certainly not “white” It is not assur to do so.

Finally I might suggest moving from your community. A “torah” community that tells Lashon Horah about its residents because they dont follow their exact Hashkafa is no torah community. You can debate about Hashkafa, but Lashon Horah is an AVERIRAH M’Doraisa.

Are these values you want to live with?

In the main world individualism is highly prized, Unfortunalty in the Charedi world it is not. Everything is seen as black and white.

Not everyone can be a charedi. Its a tough life for many. I know many love that life but obviously some dont.

You are not a Rasha if you cant be a Charedi.

I think you get this idea, but are worried about your community and you will be perceived. I think you need to forget about your community and think about your son.

It is not an Aveirah to wear Jeans. If thats what he wants let it go for now. You have to think now, whats against Hashkafa and whats against HALACHA. Fight the Halacha issues and let the Hashkafa ones go for now.

I think you sense this from your posts, but seem unwilling to take the jump

The reality is IVF treatements are expensive, I belive around $15,000 a try and they are only about 20% successful.

We could easily be spending $60K or more per kid.

While its a great thing for this for more kids funds are not unlimitted

Lets say we pay for 1000 treatments that 15 Million dollar, that 15 million dollars not going to some other Tzedkah that might also be worth and have a much greater success rate.

Would you be in favor of IVF treatments if the money went in to instead of Tomche Shabbos. Or what if a Yeshiva was forced to kicked out a kid because the parents couldnt pay and the yeshiva couldnt afford to keep him.

In a world of unlimmited funds this would be a great thing, but this is not the case

I read a psak about a man in Israel who was divorcing his wife and didnt want to pay child support. He claimed the kids were not his.

So they took a DNA test (There were 2 kids) and the DNA showed that one kid was his and the other not. He was still ordered by the Rabbanut to pay child support and the daughter was not a mamzer. (It was the daughter who was not his daughter)

other cases involved conservative or reform weddings and remarriages where the Rabbanut delcared the original wedding invalid to avoid a mamzer

The point is time and time again Rabbanut try to avoid having someone become a mamzer even if there is strong evidence to prove so (ie they claim the original wedding was invalid)

If it came down to a case where there was an actual person involved who might be a mamzer, I suspect the rabbanut would find a way around it even if Rav Elishiv held differently

I dont know if PBA is trolling or not, but he might have a point, Kashruth is not a Joke and is a serious endevor.

People who engage in Snake oil hashgaches like the worthless label on the twizzlers are not only engaging in genevah by making people pay more, they are engaging in Genevas Daas by fooling people into thinking that there is a big difference between the regular twizzelers and the one with the sticker when almost every Kashruth Rabbi says there isnt.

If we are willing to critize the O-U for not putting OU-D on Sour Cream Chips, we must be willing to critize those who insist on putting a worthless sticker on Twizzlers.

For the record I have banned those products from my house and have asked stores that I shop in not to carry them and if they continue I will buy those products elsewhere.

Ive travelled a bit and if you insisit on davening with a Minyan, you options are limited. Not an opinion just a fact

Many places only have a Chabad house (If that much) and may only have a Minyan on Shabbos , Some only have for Mussaf and Mincha (They Daven Mincha after the Kiddush as they cant get a Minyan later)

And if there is a Jewish community with say a Young Israel or similar it might not be in the place you want to be, and might be hard for an outsider to find, Sort of like Trying to find Borough Park if you are staying in Manhattan (Its not easier or close for an outsider)

As the summer travel season begins you will have to make choices, some not so easy. Is it more important to Daven 3 times a day with a Minyan or See Yellowstone National Park (for example)

Can you daven in a Chabad house or a Young Israel , Maybe with shittos you dont agree with

The North Rim is alot less crowded and much cooler.

Its also more rustic. There are alot more people and development on the South Rim.

Its a bit cheaper on the North Rim. You need to drive there from Las Vegas (Its about 200 Miles from Las Vegas, which has several Minyanim and Kosher Restaurants)

I dont know about daily mintanum , but in general if you want to visit the national Parks forget about Minyanim. Ive been to all the major national parks and there usually are very few jews there (Ive seen some, but not enough for a Minyam)

The purpose of a kesubah was to discourage divorce. The purpose of these prenups is to make it easier.

Most people can see and easily understand the difference. Those who don’t may be a shoteh, kofer does not really identify their issue

I think Rav Shecter understands the differnce and is not a Shoteh or a Kofer and certainly understands the issue
