I was in Jackson Hole July 4th time, it was pretty warm and the whole town smelled of cooking Beef

Its not deaming , In fact its praiseworthy

it is a bigger mitzvah to eat Kosher if you are tempted not to, than if you are repulsed by a non-kosher food item.

As a side note, I was once in Jackson Hole, WY and the whole town smells of BBQ-ing meat and all I had was some pasta that I bought from home. it was definatly tough to be there

Some BT’s do have a problem getting a Taavah for something they can no longer eat

Ask an FFB about Lobster and ask a BT about it. An FFB would likely be repulsed by it, but a BT might have a problem if he smelled one

Smartphones are not exactly the same as Melechal Shabbos or ate Treif

The difference is a FFB frum jew never ate Treif (Or at least was not supposed to) so you sort of done know what you are missing, They did have smart phones and it was taken away. Its alot harder to take something away from someone that they already had then take something away they never had

I think the opposition to sushi is not because it was a food that our ancestors didn’t eat, but because it’s a symbol of secular hipster “foodie” culture, which some feel is not good for spiritual growth.

Driving in many frum jewish neighborhoods I see fancy Chanderliers and fancy Italian furniture

My issue with hemish foods is not the foods themselves, but rather the way people treat it , Like its holy or something, There is a book Ive quoted before which says one should eat Chulent for melava Malka instead of Pizza because there is something special about Chulent . If you want to eat Pizza for Melava Melka, enjoy yourself

or someone posted something before that Gefiltle had the Ta’am of Shabbos while Sushi was just fancy fish. The only reason Gefile might remind anyone of Shabbos because people rarely eat it during the week and people rarely eat Sushi on Shabbos (It doesnt refrigerate well, otherwise Id use it ). If people would eat Sushi on Shabbos, then it would have the Ta’am of Shabbos.

Eating or not eating something Kosher by any standards just because it was not eaten in The alter Heim is not Frumkite

I know plemty of very frum jews who prefer the better wines (if they can afford it, ot try to get it for shabbos) than Kedem Concord Grape wine

Exactly how Sushi is related to Smartphones is beyond me

kashruth is a real things and must be obeyed, Insects are never kosher.

That being said there is no reason if something is deemed to be kosher, but not something eaten in the Alte Heim that is should be avoided.

I can pretty much state for a fact there was no Pizza or Ice Cream in the Alter Heim

Get Russian citizenship instead of Israeli citizenship and you’ll have a much easier time entering Russia, if that’s your goal.

Especially if you want to get someone elected president

Food is a very personal choice, just because you like or dont like something doesnt mean other people feel the same way

I am not a fan of Tofu,. but I know people who are and frankly it astonishes me that there are people who think some minced cheap fish dish that is served in cut up roll is better than Sushi

And it can be a big deal about visiting Russia. If someone is flying Aeroflot (very common Because of the cheap flares) and misses a connection, Americans cannot leave the airport to go to a hotel (with one exception) to spend the night (And that hotel you are almost treated like a prisoner as you cannot leave your room or the hotel, its in a special zone) Israelis can go to a normal hotel to rest

Israeli Citizens can visit Russia without a Visa, Americans need a Visa (Especially noteworthy since Aeroflot has cheap airfares to Israel, but American are not allowed to leave the airport without a Visa, Israelis can.

At least 2 famous people tried to flee US courts and make Aliyah , Meyer Lansky and Crazy Eddie Antar. Both were shipped back to the US for prosecution. Meyer Lansky was aquitted and Crazy Eddie Antar went to Jail

In general the charedi public does not understand the non-relgious public. They do not seperate Anti-Religious from non-religious. Most people are non-religious. Anti-relgious are the ones who fight yeshivas and such. Non-religious generally have a live and let live attitude , However they expect the same in return.

Fighting things they like is a losing cause and can turn them into enemies. One always has to pick battles carefully. Picking the wrong battle can backfire.

While the charedi population could care less about Eurovision, it seems many chilonim Do care and there might be backlash if their “fun” is stopped

Its a song contest in Europe and a few other countries outside. Israel and Australia participate

The winner’s home country gets the right to host the next years contest

This years winner was a woman from Israel, who won in lisbon, Portugal (Who won last year) , So next years contest will be in Israel.

I know quite a few posters live in Israel and Im sure there must be some on Australia. Both are significant time zones apart from New York

In the Alter Heim A Rebbe could be the Rebbe of a town, but not really the next town because of the time to travel, so many times the sons would divide the followers that way

Not to pick on Satmar, but Kiryat Joel vs Williamsburg is a good example, they were too far away in the Alter Heim so the brothers would have just split it up and getan, but today travel between the 2 is pretty easy.

You now have the the Same Rebbe in many groups the same Rebbe in the US, Antwerp and Israel, that never would have happend as it was almost impossible for such travel

There is a concept called “The Forbidden Fruit” (Obviously taken from Bereshis) meaning if you try to ban something, people will want it more. These band and riddiculing have backfired, people claim they dont want the phones and then you see them constantly in frum communities not even clandestinly

There was a famous story about The Vilna Gaon and some of the Misnagim

A Misnag went to the Vilna Gaon telling him a Chassid R’L had a women sitting on his lap during a meal on Tisha B’Av and the Vilna Gaon said Chassidis was Kefira

When the Misnad did not tell the Vilna Gaon was the girl was the man’s daughter and the mean was on Shabbos T-sshia B’Av

What happens is the commercial market for Passover food is very small and people dont even want them when its not Pesach, so the food companies have to make the products with the most appeal, since non-gebrachs wont eat Gebrachs, they make more non-gebrachs items just because the market is bigger so people who eat Gebrachs dont really have a choice.

Dont be so sure its the women who are more Machmir on cleaning, Maybe its the people you know , but you have to have a bigger sample of all jews who keep kosher “l-Pesach ” not just your community

Most of the Pesach programs are within 2-3 hours driving of NYC

The reason they have become more popular is the dark side to Chumras, Everyone thinks how great Chumras are, but they dont realize the negative consequences they can have. By making people (read Women) clean every nook and cranny in the home and cook for 20-30 guests it becomes to make the holiday very unplesant for many especially for those who are unable to handle these things. Not every woman is able to clean every nook and crany in the house and cook for so many especially over an extended period of yom tov (1 Meal is hard enough, now try for 4-6 meals or more) and usually this work is placed on the Bubies who might be in their 60’s or 70’s or even higher. The Bubbies might love their grandchildren, but it doesnt mean they can cook for 20-30 of them along with children and spouses (and sometimes spouses of grandchildren)

With enforced Gebroachs (Meaning beacause many avoid Gebraochs, the companies are forced to make Gebrachs free items instead of cheaper matza meal stuff and you are forced to buy it

One can easily spean one to two thousand dollars making Pesach at home , people just say, whatever Ill go to hotel for a little more and let someone else do the work, that way I can really enjoy the holiday

America was worse because most of the Rabbanim refused to go there even thought New York City was the largest jewish community in the world in 1900 , over double any other place.

Things would have been different if Beis Yaakov’s and other Yeshivas would have really been pushed in the teens and 1920’s. At that time the largest “Yeshiva” was JTS and it almost failed and tried to merge with REITS because it was barely surviving

Yeah I know Yeshiva of Brooklyn and Torah Vodass are also pre-world war II, but much more was needed and even earlier places would have helped alot. Torah Vodass would have been even greater had it formed about 25 years earlier
