I am not chabad, nor am I a follower of the Lubachvicher Rebbe. But I always admired he treated every jew equally no matter what their relgious observance

I dont think many people here are contributing to Lebron james Salary. he is entitled to get whatever he can (As are rebbes)

OOT, no day school would dare skimp on English. Most of the student body goes on to college. The general Jewish community subsidizes the day schools through Federation allocations. </me>

In NYC area, the jewish schools get ZIP, NADA, BUPKAS from the federation, each school is on its own to raise the money

Unless yeshivas charge on a sliding scale meaning richer people pay MORE and I dont mean full tution, I mean 3 x 4 x 5 x or more the regular tution to subsidize those that cant pay. its wrong that people are avoiding paying. There is only so much tution people can reasonably pay.

Unless new funding sources are found (Like a communal tax which is very unliley) the situation will remain

The problem in this whole yeshiva tution crisis is that the Rebbes deserve to get paid and the Parents cannot afford the tutiton so there is a cash crunch

Are their parents who can pay more and dont? Of course, but they are not the majorty and even if a parent spluges a little it doesnt mean they should drop the “luxury” and pay more. Should one drive a 20 year old beat up Chevy instead of a late model Honda Accord. Should one move to a smaller apartment to save money.

Maybe people should eat cheaper foods and pay higher tution and even if the parents take a vacation, Most vacations arent as luxirious as you think. You can spend $500-$1000 for a vacation that isnt going to make a big different, but it might help the sanity of the parents a little

Like I said, I understand it much better than I can speak it, Its one of the few languges I can pick up words just by listening and figure out what they mean without it sounding like a jumble, but anyone who spoke the language would figure out quickly I cannot speak it very well , I probably could learn to speak it fairly quickly without much difficulty if it was possible to immerse myself.

When I was smaller all the old people spoke it so I used to hear it alot

There was a reason millions of Jews left the Alter Heim for the Goldena Medina and millions of other left the Shtel for the big citiies like warsaw, Vienna and others . A hundreds of thousands left for Palestine in the 1920’s

If life was so good there why did millions leave? People dont leave Gan Eden

The biggest issue with calling Israel a “jewish state” is people who are not halachic jews but are assumed to be jewish by everyone else and suffer the consequences of being jewish even though they are not (People with a jewish father or jewish grandfather). Both the Nazis and the Communists punished such people for being jewish

There is a romanticism for the Ghetto that never really existed

There is a video that is floating around on youtube of Munkatch in I think 1933 that sums up the ghetto best

The opening scene is the wedding of the Munckatchers Rebbe’s daughter (I think its his daughter) and the Rebbe is giving mussor about the lack of Shabbos in America

Another scene is a bunch of school children singing Hatikvah (Actually pretty sad since you know most of them are going to be killed soon and they wont reach adulthood)

A final scene is a bunch of young people dancing in a circle (Mixed dancing) and singing some sort of song

Clearly all sorts of people lived in Munkatch

If you have time you should really watch the video, its fascinating and a brief glimse into shtel life

I think the following sums it up best. its how you peceive the Alter heim. Do you see the Alter Heim as a place of tranquility where everyone lived together without being bothered, Keeping Mitzvoth, Learning torah, A Gan Eden so to speak. Or do you see the Alter heim as a miserable place of Poverty, Pogroms etc, the kind of place you want to get away from.

Is Yiddish Mamma Loshon or is it an invisible ghetto wall to keep people locked in

It was not Art Scroll that made english dominant. Art Scroll was in response to the reality of English being an imperialistic language and the reality the english has become the dominant language of jews today.

Anglo Countires frown upon polygottism and demand English prociciency, something that was not seen in the Alterheim with Russian, Polish, German or any other language

Allegedly the Chasam Sofer said any drosha not in Yiddish is treif.

Actually he poskened that all drashot should be in Yiddish, It made perfect sense in Polygot Pressburg where jews spoke 4-5 languages and Yiddish was a common language, It makes no sense in 2018 where most jews speak english or Hebrew (Or whatever the local language is like french if you are in France). Most people would not understand the Drasha given in Yiddish and there is a good chance the Rabbi cannot give it either.

The Folksbien performs plays and musicals in Yiddish, Many of the actors and actresess are not jewish

It was a fast day when the Septugent was written, however it still was seen as a miracle that 70 Rabbanim came out with the exact same translations including the same 5 changes to the like (Like I shall make man instead of Let us make man) and something to do with a Rabbit that was negative (The word for Rabbit was the same as Ptlomey;s wife)

Tiwad, Greek has a special holiness to it because the Septugant was written in it. Its was a considered a Miracle that all 70 translations were exactly the same.

There are opinions one could read the Septugant (We dont have it anymore) and be Yotzei

Most religious groups when there is an intermarriage allow fast conversions, Like Muslims, there is no intermarriage with muslims because they simply convert the non-muslims partner (even if they really dont believe)

I think generally christians take a similar stance, however in recent yeats when there is an intermarriage they dont force anyone to convert (Dont kid yourself while we might think Methodists and Catholics are the same christians, they do not think the same, A methodist marrying an Catholic is a terrible thing in both sides eyes)

Unfortunatly many Charedim will not marry Sephardim or even Dati Leumi/MO. They will only marry other charedim from their own circles

I dont think Ive ever even heard of a Yeshivish person marrying a Chassidish person

In israel you Sephardim are marrying Ashkenazim all the time and its erasing the lines between them (In the US there are alot less sephardim compared to Ashkenazim so there is pull to Ashkenazic, but only because of numbers

The Stats prove you wrong, 36% of Asian women marry outside, 12% of Asian Men (because Asian Women are seen to be as more desireable) 24% of Black men marry outside 9% of Black Women (Again because of desireability). latino intermarriage is also on the rise as well

Intermarriage rates will continue to rise as taboos with interacial marrage fall. There is still some stigma for a white person to marry a black person which is part of the reason its not higher, but it will change as there are famous celebrities invovled in interacial marriages

Its not true that intermarrage does not occur in other groups

There are plenty of famous bi-racial people . Barak Obama, Derek Jeter , Bill DiBlasio’s Children.

I saw somewhere that about 40% of asian women marry non-asian men (Yes some of them are jewish like Zuckerberg)
