The air will conduct heat, but not very well, it is very thin, very dry and very cold.

Mars rotates at an angle of about 25Degrees, Earth is about 23Degrees, the closest bright star to the pole would be Deneb, which is in Cygnus, but I don’t think it is very close to the pole.

Mars does have seasons, but they would be about twice as long as ours as a year on Mars is about 687 Earth Days. You can actually see the polar ice on mars advancing and retreating with the seasons from Earth with a decent telescope. I would expect that you could in fact keep track of that with about $600 worth of telescope and a sketch pad

I think ‘screen names’ are a very bad thing. The biggest danger of the internet, as I see it, is the anonimity it provides.

Thats why I post under my legal name*, If I can’t sign my name to it I probably should not say it on the internet (or anywhere else)

    * Or at least something pretty close to it, I don’t use my middle name here for example, but you get the point

    Here by chance.

As for the delay it will range between about 4 minutes when Mars is at Opposition to about 24 minutes. And there will be about a month a year when mars is behind the Sun (at Conjunction) where you would not have any communications.

Of course from Mars it would be that Earth is at Inferior Conjunction (Closest) and Superior Conjunction when it is behind the Sun.

(Opposition is when an object is directly oposite the sun and therefore the closest to the Earth)

Actually Saturn is at Opposition this right around now, and the rings are wide open so if you know someone with a Telescope go take a look.

    Some notes on mars:

The problem is that air conditioning won’t work, since there is no air to cool the coils.

Actually there is air on Mars, not very much of it, but some. You would not be able to breath it (wrong chemistry and not nearly enough pressure)

As for Luna (Earth’s moon) it would actually be visible from Mars, Earth would appear as a double planet. However Mars’s moons are very small and have very fast orbital periods.

A “day” on Mars is called a “Sol” and is about 25 hours.

How to construct a Mikva or Sukkah on Mars is left as an exercise for those more creative than I.

Just a few notes, There are two basic types of vaccines, some use a live form of the virus others use one that is dead. There have been a few cases of a live virus vaccine getting someone sick but they are very rare, one in a few million.

That being said not all vaccines are 100% effective. So it is possible in some cases if you have been vaccinated to still get sick. In this case what we count on is called herd immunity. Which is a fancy way of saying if everyone is vaccinated then the virus won’t have a chance to spread very far because the few people who can get sick can’t spread it.

BaalHabooze, please be very careful where you get your information on this issue, there are people out there who are trying to give you bad information for whatever reason they have. They do not have your best interest at heart.

The CDC has a good web page on this: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/

First of all 90% of what you read on the internet is wrong, some of it is mis-informed some of it is out right lies. There has not been a single scientific paper ever to show any link between autism and vaccinations.

However in almost every case where vaccination rates drop if the virus or bacteria is still in the environment outbreaks happen!

If you think that vaccinations are a scam aimed at hurting children ask yourself this question… how many children do you know who have been killed recently by Measles, Mumps, Polio, Whooping cough, Diphtheria or Smallpox? For most people reading this that number will be 0, if we had been somehow having this conversation in 1911 and not 2011 It would have been MUCH higher.

My father is a micro-biologist and he recommends anyone who works in public health should take a walk threw a grave yard from the 19th century to see all the graves of children and know exactly why public health is such an important field of work.

(My grandfather had Diptheria in his youth, he missed a year of school because of it, thankfully he survived and lived to be 99 years old)

Here is a question, why would you buy something as it is at an *ALL TIME HIGH*? Now is a good time to sell gold, not buy it.

Remember to make money, Buy low, sell High.

I assume most people here have seen a small child learn to walk. While they are doing it they fall down. Well when they do you pick them up and have them try again.

Life is much like that. Sooner or later something you try is going to go wrong and knock you down. The secret is to get back up and learn from it. Most (all?) successful people had a number of failures and setbacks on the way to being successful, the secret is to learn from them and try not to make the same mistakes again.

For example back in the 1980’s Steve Jobs got fired by Apple and spent 10 or 15 years doing other thing before coming back to Apple to become one of the best CEO’s in America.

I would politely but firmly say to this person, “On these issues lets just agree to disagree”. You are not going to change his mind, and he will not change yours.

After that just act in a manor that is polite and civil and hopefully he will do the same.

Not ideal I know but probably about as good as you are going to get.

Everyone needs a burial plot. Only those who pass away young need life insurance.

People die young, obviously we hope to live for a long time but sometimes we don’t. Maybe I will live to 120 or maybe I will get hit by a bus tomorrow. *I DON’T KNOW*! That is why I have life insurance because if the worst happens I want to know that my wife and kids will still be able to pay the rent and eat.

So if you have people who depend on your income you need life insurance unless you have enough assets that your family could pay the bills off of them.

THe moon landings (all 6 off them) were real. Most of the “Evidence” that it was fakes is really flimsy and falls apart if you look at it closely.

Plus if it was faked why didn’t the Russians say anything. They easily could have tracked the missions from the ground.

Oh and there is Gravity on the moon, its about 1/6 of that on Earth.

I would also say that renting on the short term basis can make sense if the couple does not have the cash to buy and own a house. Buying a house that you loose 5 years later because you can’t afford the payments is not a good deal.

The best way to do this — Don’t.

1- the house should be only on name of my blood relative, not spouse

If my father, or father in law came to me with this I would say “No thank you”.* If you don’t care enough about my wife to have her name on the house then really I don’t want to own it.

Two If you can’t afford to just write a check don’t loan the money. Really The borrower is slave to the lender (from Proverbs, don’t have the exact reference handy) I don’t want that kind of relationship with my folks. It will make dinner taste funny.

    *Not that they ever would

One of the biggest challenges for any couple is money. Being on the same page with regards to money will be a key factor in success of a couple. After 7 years my wife and I are still working on this and trying to really nail it.

We are currently doing Dave Ramsey’s FPU class which has been a great help for us.

Many years ago I lived in London and cycled to work. One thing drivers don’t realize that that when you are on a bike you see things that drivers don’t. Many things like say a storm drain or broken glass on the road are real hazards to someone on a bicycle, while can be ignored for the driver of a car.

How can an American (living in the U.S.) obtain a second citizenship?

    There are a few ways

    1) Be defended from someone who is from a country where you can get citizenship

    2) Move to a different country and become a citizen (rules will vary by country)

    3) Make Aliyah to Israel.

I a citizen of 3 countries, (USA, UK, Israel). It has some benefits. Mostly that I can choose to live in a wide number of places. In theory it does have some level of obligation as well but not so onerous.

If you think you could be eligible for Hungarian citizenship call their embassy in your country, that is what it is there for!

I don’t know where you are and if there is a kosher resturant available. Assuming there is I would quietly go to your boss and explain and ask if it could be held there. If you do it with grace there is a decent chance he will say “Sure no problem”.

Back when I was living in Boston I was helping to organize a Computer User group meetup. I was the only one who kept kosher out of the crowd but when I suggested a Kosher place no one had any problems holding it there. (I think one person asked if there was a vegetarian option which there was)

From what I have heard the DA failed to prove the case leaving the jury no choice but to acquit. The standard of a criminal case is “Beyond a reasonable doubt” not “Badmouthed on the TV news” for a reason.
