Here is the exact translation of the Pasuk that is brought in Sanhedrin 98a, by Artscroll:

Then I will make their waters settle and cause their rivers to flow like oil

in reply to: BP Oil Spill & Moshiach #687425

Stress that he CAN come any day, but we don’t know which day he will actually come.

in reply to: BP Oil Spill & Moshiach #687423

I think it is VERY important that we tell our children ONLY Emes. If we aren’t sure of something we should make that clear. And I mean even children before they can walk.

And particularly I think the tooth fairy thing, though cute and sweet, is terribly, and at a very deep level, damaging to a child’s developement of Emunah

in reply to: BP Oil Spill & Moshiach #687419

For me personally I do not become interested in specific signs of the coming of Moshiach. General trends of the world, yes, it is clear that we are living in the generations shortly before the arrival of Moshiach. But specific signs I tend towards not paying much attention.

I remember the war when iraq invaded kuwait. In my parts, Moshiach fever was epidemic. Every day new allusions to the imminent arrival of Moshiach were being discovered. I was caught up in it. Seriously, I would look at the headlines of the newspaper every morning, hoping to see: “MOSHIACH IS HERE!”

My Emunah was not destroyed, Baruch Hashem, but I was deeply disappointed for months afterward.

It IS very nice. I remember that inyan in Sanhedrin quite differently. Maybe someone could look it up.

Stevia is stable in heat, you can bake with it

    Essentially zero calories

in reply to: Is Splenda Dangerous? #873366

Amazon has some bulk stevia certified by KSA

in reply to: Is Splenda Dangerous? #873365

SweetLeaf Brand Stevia is certified by Natural Food Certifiers headed by Rabbi Reuven Flamer out of Scarsdale, NY. The symbol is a red apple with a K in it. I don’t know anything about that hechsher.

There are other brands of stevia as well

in reply to: Question On CR #686528

It’s always a little disheartening when I see how people don’t understand the high level of training moderators must endure.

But I knew when I chose this life that I would have to face that attitude, I’ve become hardened to it over the years.

in reply to: Is Splenda Dangerous? #873362

stevia is much healthier than stevia

    I would disagree with that!

agave nectar is just concentrated fructose (primarily). I don’t see why it should be any better than high fructose corn syrup. I’m not sure if you can even get it in america.

Since we haven’t had a salary increase in the last four months, it’s a compensatory perk.

Besides you think moderator humor is simple?

I spent 2 months during moderator boot camp intensively studying Moderator Humor, before I could even be eligible to apply to Moderator University.

oomis sugar has 16 cal per teaspoon, not splenda.

    splenda is essentially calorieless

in reply to: Is Splenda Dangerous? #873359

    oomis mentioned stevia

    It is natural

    It is not a sugar

If I had to choose the one sweetener most like to be safe, this would be it.

in reply to: Is Splenda Dangerous? #873358

As far as I know xylitol is natural, approx as sweet as sugar. It is a sugar however, and although it’s supposed to be absorbed more slowly than sucrose, I don’t really know if it’s any better

in reply to: Taking a while for posts to show up #686875

    Seriously, it’s not me.

I don’t like to take credit falsely.

The fooling around is mostly me, but there is a very good moderator on also right now, approving posts rapid fire.

Does it have anything to do with clothing sold for a particular kind of activity?

    Yes

No one really knows who squeak is. But I wouldn’t speculate about this openly. It could be risky. The extent of his powers is as of yet unknown.

in reply to: Is Splenda Dangerous? #873352

I use it. I do know the dangers of sugar. But I limit it as much as I am able.

in reply to: Is Splenda Dangerous? #873351

The nutritionist knows no more about it that the doctor.

    It is quite a dilemma.

It has not and CAN not ever be proven that it is safe. On the other hand, although it has been extensively tested by the FDA, it has not ever been proven to be harmful, yet.

in reply to: Question On CR #686512

What would you like yours to say moishy?

in reply to: Is Splenda Dangerous? #873349

The problem with sugar is not the calories, but the rapid absorption, quickly raising the glucose levels and a corresponding rapid rise in insulin levels, repeatedly stressing the insulin producing cells in the pancreas (way oversimplified),

The refined grains in the challah you mentioned, primarily starches, take longer to be processed into sugar, so they are somewhat better than sugar itself, but not much.

What you heard about the splenda packets is true but I don’t think that in itself is an indicator for healthfulness. Most vitamins are even more potent.

In my opinion, the majority of ill health in the modern world is due primarily to the overabundance of sugar and refined grains in the diet.

in reply to: Which State Do YOU Live In #686839

I live in Non New York, the other half of the world.

in reply to: Is Splenda Dangerous? #873347

Your doctor has no way of knowing that. But that’s the way of most doctors.

Joseph(if he actually exists)could be anyone. In truth, if we examine ourselves, we are all Joseph. Joseph is a legend, a mushal, an intangible phantom who will haunt the halls of YWN as long as it exists. Wherever there is a wrong to be righted, there you will find Joseph (and possibly Zorro)

in reply to: Your Feedback: New YWN Website #992926

    You’re not Joseph, are you?

in reply to: Donating A Vein #686644

It should be spelled as I did, with 3 “l”s

You spelled it with 4 “l”s

in reply to: Your Feedback: New YWN Website #992924

    It’s a mystery d a.

in reply to: Your Feedback: New YWN Website #992923

I don’t remember that, squeak. You must have been here longer than me.

in reply to: Is Splenda Dangerous? #873343

    No one knows

in reply to: What's going on in Emmanuel? #686776

From what I’ve read (supposedly quoting statements from parents whos kids were excluded) was that they were willing to do everything the stricter school wanted, and the school didn’t want them.

completely untrue. They were not at all willing. Besides the fact that those families brought this to a secular court instead of Beis Din is quite a clear indication of their unwillingness to abide by basic Halachah, let alone a frum lifestyle (no TV, etc)

in reply to: What's going on in Emmanuel? #686773

What kasha said is absolutely true.

30% of the families that are on the frummer track, and do not want the other students to be admitted, are Sephardi.

There is much distortion and misinformation by much of the media, as is always the case.

Only one screen name has been changed on a permanent basis. The prankster has a short term sense of humor and all other screennames were only temporary. If they are revived it will also be temporary.

Are they manufactured by the company that my office uses?

In that case I would say about 98% that they will both break down within the second year. (as soon as the warranty expires)

in reply to: Your Feedback: New YWN Website #992918

To my knowledge out of all the posters here only one has a SN different from the login. It won’t be a problem

in reply to: Depression Support groups #688187

    Would you prefer: “vein expert”?

in reply to: Donating A Vein #686633

I’m fairly certain there is no such thing. Why do you ask?

in reply to: Depression Support groups #688181

    You’ll never know.

But why are you thanking YNW.

    Who is YNW?

in reply to: Pasuk for name #1083050

This is a well established principle. The reward and punishment are transferred AS IF one himself did those acts.

As far as I have heard they don’t ask you any questions about those acts (How could they, it is only Emes up there). The confusion comes when they mention those acts as if they were yours, yet you do not recall them.

in reply to: Broken Engagements #919475

You mean her question is a kasha.

in reply to: Pasuk for name #1083031

Hopefully you’ll get a reply, but it seems pretty likely that it is a computer program.

in reply to: Depression Support groups #688172

squeak I’m serious. Please cut it out!

in reply to: Depression Support groups #688170

    Dr. Kasha

If you value your own mental health, I wouldn’t take on squeak as a client.

Just a little advice from someone who has known him for a while. His multiple personalities are just the beginning.

in reply to: Depression Support groups #688167

Squeak you are not allowed to keep changing your screen name. I don’t know how you do it, but we take seriously the Rules here!

in reply to: Depression Support groups #688154

    Either way is acceptable

In America moldy is the preferred spelling.

in reply to: Depression Support groups #688144

    schimmel means “a bit premature”?

Or it was a bit premature to change your SN?

So what is the correct context?

in reply to: Depression Support groups #688141

    Thanks Schim

in reply to: Depression Support groups #688139

    What does schimmel mean?

All I could find on line was either “listening” or “moldy”.
