Aren’t dolphins the 2nd most intelligent creatures on Earth? 🙂

    the third:

    1. moderators

    2. humans

    3. dolphins

    not at all!

    use your head

it’s just as likely that the poster is simply pretending or lying…

as a matter of fact that is what you and the other posters seemed to be implying when you happily thought you caught her redhanded

in reply to: Things to do Bein Hazmanim #691218

Firstly, I’d make it an explicit rule that users must agree to.

i suppose, i doubt if that would accomplish much though.

Secondly, if someone gets caught doing so, warn them.

Thirdly, do it enough times (twice, thrice, whatever…) then ban them.

there is no way to “catch” them unless they admit to it. inconsistencies in content is no proof as to the cause.

as far as HIE, you’re right

in reply to: The Riddle Thread…. #1069038

just last week my nephew showed it to me. if it was mine i would have dropped a large brick on it and said: “solve THIS, rubik!”

in reply to: Things to do Bein Hazmanim #691214

Each person should post under their own screen name.

    obviously.

i was just wondering what you would suggest to insure this, that you would do if it was YOUR message board.

perhaps you can let us know how you manage this problem on your personal blog.

in reply to: Things to do Bein Hazmanim #691213

how would you propose to do this if this was YOUR board?

perhaps insist that a condition for posting here would be for each poster to purchase a fingerprint or retinal identification machine to confirm the identity of whomever is using their computer, and tie this in to software on this end to only allow the appropriate person to post here?

in reply to: Things to do Bein Hazmanim #691210

However, it’s not my message board…

do you mean to imply that if it was your message board you would not allow more than one person to share the same screename?

in reply to: Yeshivish Secular Studies #691821

The Yeshivah would eliminate secular studies in a heartbeat if they could.

in reply to: Yeshivish Secular Studies #691817

I cant speak for all Yeshivos. The one I am very familiar with is forced to tolerate secular studies because they are required by state law.

    ******”indication”

Ah. Apparently wolves can’t read. 🙂

    OK, let’s rephrase then…

… if I suddenly start wearing a streimel, does that automatically make me a chassid?

    The Wolf ******

    “indication”

in reply to: Girls Congregating the Streets on Shabbos #691640

*****no, the headgear is an indication of your beliefs and actions

If you saw a person with a streimel you would say he’s from the chassidic sect (not exactly saying he’s a chassid)

So, if I wear a leather kippah or a knit kippah, it means that I have to have certain beliefs and actions?! Are you saying that it’s not possible to wear a knit kippah and have the same hashkafos and actions as a “yeshivish person?”

    The Wolf******

    “indication”

in reply to: Girls Congregating the Streets on Shabbos #691572

As we may all end up in a box after many years it behooves us to follow the will of our Creator and final Judge, whatever that may be.

Whether that necessitates acceptance of every Jews mahalach, or whether it necessitates speaking out against certain behaviors, it should be determined by what our Gedolim and Poskim tell us, not by what feels good and sounds nice and friendly.

in reply to: Girls Congregating the Streets on Shabbos #691571

where does this “common” sense come from? common to whom?

Common sense comes from our general environment. And it changes as the seasons. That abortion was a heinous crime was once common sense. That relations between man and man was disgusting and abhorrent was once common sense.

only the eternal Torah can be our guide.

in reply to: Girls Congregating the Streets on Shabbos #691566

you dont have to explain yourself to me yanky. you be whatever you want.

in reply to: Girls Congregating the Streets on Shabbos #691561

You can categorize me or put me into any kind of “box” you would like.

in reply to: Girls Congregating the Streets on Shabbos #691555

Mod 80 – “harmless things: sports, tv, movies, magazines, novels, blue jeans, baseball caps, sneakers” hat to break it to you but tv, magazines, goyish novels, (many times “harmlessly include love incidents) ARE HARMFUL.

most certainly sof. i was trying to state their perspective hoping the foolishness of it would be obvious. no sane person would open the sewer main to empty into his living room, much less his head.

not to mention that we are a Holy Nation, set apart from the nations, we thank Hashem in Havdalah and many other occasions for separating us from the nations. and as was prophesied, whenever we begin to go lost to within the nations, Hashem increases their hatred of us to form a barrier, if we wont make our own barrier. many see the Holocaust as a result of the large masses of Jews embracing reform and assimilation, and making berlin the “new Jerusalem”.

in reply to: Girls Congregating the Streets on Shabbos #691549

But I know that the way it is used (pejoratively, as I described above) is just wrong.

Something pejorative is not necessarily wrong.

Because an idea makes us nervous or feel bad doesn’t make it wrong.

in reply to: Girls Congregating the Streets on Shabbos #691545

Okay, I’ll tell you what it means:

I has nothing to do with lack of commitment to Halachah.

It means they wish to partake in the manner of dress and entertainments of the goyim. (within Halachah of course). harmless things: sports, tv, movies, magazines, novels, blue jeans, baseball caps, sneakers. all within reason and all in no contradiction to Torah Principles.

in reply to: Girls Congregating the Streets on Shabbos #691541

the usual and basic meaning of “modern” means “as opposed to older ways”.

Perhaps that’s how it is properly used?

in reply to: Girls Congregating the Streets on Shabbos #691540

    wolf:

Im curious to hear how you would explain the use of the word “modern”

It seems to me, to mean the current general culture of the civilized world or western world or american world.

how would you explain the meaning of the adjective as used by the MO?

only the elite moderator tactical units, and the security cadre are headquartered there. not for us regular “soldiers”.

if you ever tried to moderate a venusian-martian argument you would understand why.

philo, i dont have sources for you but i am fairly certain that it is well held that Moshiach can ARRIVE on any day (except Erev Shabbos)

in reply to: Thoughts on the Geulah #694069

In the Islamic religious tradition it is written that before the arrival of the Mahdi, the Dajjal will appear riding a white donkey.

In Mesechta Sanhedrin 98a the color of the donkey that Moshiach will ride is described as multicolored.

cauliflower is much easier to check than broccoli. im not competent to give directions.

I retract the first half of my statement.

    in reply to: Recipes #690284

    from the cRc:

Cauliflower – It is impractical and close to impossible for the average consumer to properly check fresh and frozen cauliflower. It is therefore highly recommended that only product with a reliable hashgacha be used. Canned or jarred needs a reliable hashgacha.

    in reply to: Recipes #690283

interesting: star-k gives the same procedure for broccoli

    in reply to: Recipes #690281

    from star-k:

” 1. Agitate florets in a white bowl of clean water.

    2. Examine the water to see that it is insect-free.

Note: It may be helpful to place the white bowl on a light source such as a light box to make it easier to detect any insects and distinguish them from bits of debris or detached florets.

    3. If insects are found, you may re-do this procedure up to three times in total. If there are still insects, the whole batch must be discarded.

    4. If the water is insect-free, look over florets to see if any insects are visible on the tops and stems.

    5. If no insects are noticed you may use the vegetable.”

broccoli is quite problematic, insect wise.

its worse to kill your brother than a stranger. you can decide why.

the closer one is to you the worse it is to do him an injustice.

no one is closer to you than the Jew that is called by your name.

but – MANY MANY MANy frum homes DO NOT allow any goyish books, magazines, newspapers etc into their homes yet their daughters still have such a deep desire to be “with it “

how many of their friends do absorb the goysih media, and how many of their relatives, and their schoolmates and everyone else they see.

it’s a general problem of a goyish environment. it pervades everywhere and impurifies with contact, and is absorbed by osmosis. this is golus.

we have to free ourselves from it as well as we can.
