movies are far worse, they are in a league of their own. sports isnt even in the ballpark.

So, once you’ve “spent” the hoshanos in shul, ….. there is nothing left to do with it.
there is the segulah to take one of the leaves and place it in your wallet as a segulah for parnassah
this practice bothers me
however where i daven one of the Rabbaim is a choshuv Posek and he never told anyone not to do it.
i didnt ask him about it but i have a feeling that he holds it shouldnt be done but is not assur and he doesnt want to be mavatal a Minhag.

how about a shul is a luxury. you can daven with a minyon in a private home
how about a Mikveh is a luxury. you can always find a natural body of water. it might be cold and you might have to travel but it isnt necessary. or use a Mikveh in a nearby city.
ALWAYS the first thing an erlich community does when founding a new community is to establish a Yeshivah, a Mikveh, and a Shul, generally in that order.
the first thing that Yehudah did when preparing Goshen for his family was to establish a Yeshivah. he felt it was a necessity. but of course the fathers then were not as capable of teaching their children, as the fathers today in America. most fathers today are just as capable as the Rabbaim to teach Torah to the children. and of course the fathers dont need to earn a Parnassah.
yes Yeshivas are just an uneccessary luxury. im sure the Gedolim would be unanimous in their support of this idea.

one is allowed (i believe Tosafos says it is a Mitzvah) to lie for purposes of darchei Shalom. i forget where this Gemorah is but i believe a Tosfos in Eilu Metzius (dibur hamaschiel Ushpizia on about daf 23b) references it as a kasha to the Gemorrah here that says a Talmid Chochom is allowed to lie about only 3 things.
