For me, it’s the ones that end with or contain the phrase “est maintenant l’heure d’apprendre”.

“”A neis, obviously. Of course it was a neis. How many ninty year old woman do you know who give birth?””

obviously a virgin birth was NOT implied here.

the poster referred to the neis of giving birth at a very old age, but in the usual manner.

unless one has a fairly unusual condition it is generally a very poor idea to see the “top” doctor.

you need someone who is competent, friendly, supportive, willing to take time to discuss things with you, and readily available. especially with a condition like yours which is best controlled with a healthy dose of patient knowledge and self-management.

    ask around

i believe that is of crucial importance

forcing the child to share actually makes them more protective of their property and more selfish

encouraging to share and rewarding it is a different story

icot wrote this 1 year ago

he did include a disclaimer with it, it was just something he heard.

    its not true

although some soda is acidic it will not change the pH of your blood. the bodys homeostatic systems are simply too effective for that.

in reply to: Mixed-Up Minhagim #713268

a lot of us baal tshuvim have no family Mesorah

in reply to: SIBLING RIVALRY #702738

i think it is normal, just as selfishness is normal, and it is something that must be corrected. it is a wonderful opportunity to instill good Middos in your children.

the question is how to do it?

    i dont know

i bet there is plenty of information about this in Rabbi Orloweks: My Child, My Disciple, and Lawrence Kellemans: To Kindle A Soul

in reply to: Is it Lashon Hara?? #702198

Is it Lashon Hara to say something bad about a member, or moderator, here?

its lashon horah as regards a member, but motzei shaim rah as regards a moderator

in reply to: What makes a person "real"? #702777

its a phrase that many people commonly use. i think hes asking what do people mean when they use it?

i think it is generally meant as non-hypocritical. a person whos actions are in synch with his words

in reply to: learning boy?.. #703429

But quitting my job will mean lots of unhappy moments for the family I chose to bring into the world.

    maybe so for your family

but there are many families, and i know some, where the situation is quite the opposite

    for example:

the constant and deep Simcha experienced by GR, his kallah and their children (he learns 15 hrs/day or so, she works when she can, usually from home)is beautiful to see. they also have frequent financial difficulties but they deal with those also with Emunah and even, to some extent, with Simcha

in reply to: Puting away Seforim after using them #702427

Why is it that in Bais Medreshes people just tend NOT to put away thier seforim after learning from them

why dont we amend that to: Why is it that in Bais Medreshes some people…

in reply to: Chicken Soup, Friday Night? #702907

While we have chicken soup on most Friday nights, there is the occasional week when we replace it with a potato leek soup instead

my wife always cooks the chicken soup with a leek in it. i recommend your wife give it a try.

in reply to: The Riddle Thread…. #1069320

i only thought of the pill answer after icot gave his answer.

mine was only a variation of his.

as to the barbecue riddle, i must protest

although you did say desert island, still, i believe using seawater was unfairly adding a new factor into the puzzle. now some riddles like the pill one have as their answer a ‘practical’ solution within the bounds of fairness, but riddles of jugs and liquid and other mathematical riddles generally have a purely mathematical solution, and although the answer you gave was correct, i dont feel in was in the mathematical riddle spirit.

i am ready for the answer to the pills, and to the jugs

    never step on a scale

    generally

the scale will show a lower number than you expected, giving you a false sense of success and causing you to lose motivation

    or

will show a higher number than you expected causing you to become discouraged and lose motivation

in reply to: An important lesson from last weeks parsha for married people #702555

mosherose is obviously lacking in a clear Daas Torah and his knowledge of the ways of the Jewish People is clearly not fully developed.

nevertheless he is one in a million and when his character becomes polished, and with the right guidance (and a lot of it) i anticipate he may become a great Talmid Chochom and Tzaddik.

for he holds firmly to a crucial principle that almost everyone else has forgotten:

the Emes is the Emes, what feels right, what is accepted as a given by the entire nations, what appears to be obvious truths, are not Emes if they deviate from our Mesorah.

he needs to learn a little more clearly what our Mesorah is, but his tight grasp and unwillingness to let go of what he believes to be Torah is a beautiful and rare Middah.

in reply to: kedushas shabbos #701977

its neither easy nor simple in that it takes WORK

you have to learn what Shabbos Kodesh is, and think a lot about it on Shabbos

i would strongly recommend Nefesh Shimshon Shabbos Kodesh also.

daven maariv Shemoneh Esrei very slowly thinking and feeling as deeply as you can into each word. dont be in a hurry. this will elevate you

try to walk home from Shul alone

    walk slowly

keep in mind that it is Shabbos Kodesh and as you take each step think that you are savoring each moment of this gift of closeness to Hashem. dont think about anything else.

try to keep your head down and pay little attention to what is around you, but everything you do see, think that Hashem made the world from nothing. and it is still nothing. everything is only the thoughts and will of Hashem. savor each moment of closeness to Hashem

in reply to: Human Evolution #700920

Evolutionary biologists who believe in the theory believe in it because they believe the evidence supports it, not because they’re looking for an excuse to escape from God

    quite logical deduction

however by and large the underlying reason is because they wish to escape from the control of G-d. you can see this or not, depends on your clarity of vision. the Gedolim have always said this.

and it does matter quite a bit. as a matter of knowing the Emes and showing it to others. and as a matter of partial explanation to the supposedly strong question: if so many smart scientists believe in evolution that is proof that it must be true. why else would they believe in it if not for the cold hard facts?

ad hominem arguments are against the rules in the game of debating, but are not necessarily unrelated to the issue

in reply to: Broken Telephone #5 #706144

i think it would be funnier if the posts were related, though off, to the previous one, as in an actual faulty telephone conversation.

    for example, blinkys last post:

no, my back is fine and i am not infirm

some int providers change their customers ip addresses frequently.

    on second thought wolf

    your loophole needs some refinement

if you redefined the number three all civilization would probably come to an end

maybe the whole universe would cease to exist

would would become of all the physics constants, pi?

i guess your wish would be to redefine 3 as regards wishes only. although that degree of specificity may also break wishing regulations

in reply to: Hopes and Dreams #720047

I would like a world where there are no temptations and doubts, a world where everyone wants to serve Hashem with their whole heart and soul, with all their senses

i understand what you are saying and in truth i agree with your sentiment

however it is WITH those very temptations and doubts that we serve Hashem

if there were no temptation or doubt our service would be no better than the Melachim

Hashem wants the service of his children, into whom he breathed Bechira

    discrimination is a marvelous thing

it means to be able to tell the difference between different things

it means not all things are the same

it means not all things should be treated as if they are the same

it means to use your seichel
