YW Moderator-80Member
Sushi is clumpy cold white rice with raw fish and wrapped in the green stuff that grows on the side of someone’s swimming pool.
an almost perfect description
i would add: green slimy stuff
YW Moderator-80Memberty you already got your answer in the second post
the answer is no you may not say Amen on a Brocha from a recording
YW Moderator-80Memberthank you
no need, but are you allowed to say Amen?
YW Moderator-80Memberwell i am an uncle
but mostly im a zaide
YW Moderator-80Memberno uncles arent serious
uncles are always joking
its a requirement
YW Moderator-80Memberactually my uncle, A’H used to carry a large round button in his pocket that said “tuit” on it
if someone would say, ill do it when i get around to it, he would give it to them and say, okay, here you are, now do it.
YW Moderator-80Membermoderators are perfect
YW Moderator-80Memberwhat if the speaker says something like: may Moshiach come soon
YW Moderator-80Memberyes im banned. that was an illegal entry
YW Moderator-80Memberthe above entry is officially disqualified

YW Moderator-80MemberHowever, the State of Israel presently doesn’t perpetuate any anti-Torah values; to the contrary
the atheists that run the government of the state of Israel hate the Torah and those that love it. they hate that people view Israel as a religious country. they are doing everything they can to remove religion from the medina.
their greatest longing is to be like all the other nations of the world and to be accepted as one of the boys.
of course that has nothing to do with the koras ha tov that we owe to the medina (just like our koras ha tov for the mitzrim) and certainly to its army
November 3, 2010 4:32 pm at 4:32 pm in reply to: Rav Moshe Feinstein: Sitting next to women on buses #706421YW Moderator-80MemberAnd, if the latter, did he really mean that I shouldn’t learn it with my son — or even on my own, since I sometimes translate words to myself when learning by myself?
of course neither one of us know what he said or meant. but i would presume that he at least meant that if you are going to learn his Psakim, by yourself or with your son, you should not modify your behavior without first asking a Posek how HE translates the words and interprets them and what he poskins you should do
November 3, 2010 4:18 pm at 4:18 pm in reply to: Rav Moshe Feinstein: Sitting next to women on buses #706419YW Moderator-80MemberAnd, if so, does a person have the *right* to ban anyone from translating their works that they put out in the public domain*? I don’t think they do.
The Wolf
(* I don’t mean “public domain” in the copyright sense — I mean as in it’s available to the public — as opposed to private papers/diaries.)
i didnt see anything about a ban in the words of mosheemes2. i never heard that R’Moshe,tz’l banned his words from being translated
YW Moderator-80Memberdo you mean what good does it do? when you are functioning non-pathologically?
i imagine in a state of normal panic there is probably some threat present, always a good idea to increase respiration and oxygen levels to run or fight or whatever.
YW Moderator-80Memberblinky, blinky
mice can swim, and probably faster than you
i would suggest you run, climb a tree, or jump up on the proverbial table and scream: “EEEEEEEEEK”
YW Moderator-80Memberi think it gets quite difficult sometimes.
you dont make a Brocha on a borrowed Talis, only one you own
who owns the shuls Talis, is it the Tzibur?
i think it depends on what kind of financial structure of ownership the Shul has.
who is considered a member of the Tzibur?
im not too sure about any of this but i know it can get complicated in some cases
November 2, 2010 7:32 pm at 7:32 pm in reply to: How To Talk To Children About Personal Safety #705989YW Moderator-80Memberthats what needs to be done
YW Moderator-80Memberthanks wolf
i sort of knew that intuitively but couldnt put it into words
YW Moderator-80Memberwhat does that mean exactly: “whatever”
seems to have a similar flavor to “deal with it”
but more laissez-faire(sp?)
or is it fundamentally different?
YW Moderator-80Memberdont be so quick to plead
you werent indicted.
(although i suppose “guilty as charged” does not really imply an admission of *guilt*, more a cleverish way of saying: yes, i do that, or am that, without necessarily a judgementalism)
whatever
YW Moderator-80Memberyoure welcome
YW Moderator-80Memberi didnt mean to imply it wasnt okay
just another phrase i think wolf popularized to some extent
deal with it.
fair enough?
YW Moderator-80Memberi think you also started “fair enough”
alt: “fair enough then”

YW Moderator-80Memberyou didnt mention this before sj
all you said was bitul zman
YW Moderator-80Memberi dont know why you wish to turn this into a him vs her question.
but to asnwer you
recreation is permitted for a man and is not bitul zman, if it is done for the purpose of relaxation to improve learning which otherwise might be subject to “burnout
November 2, 2010 3:56 pm at 3:56 pm in reply to: Depressing Conversation With 7th Grade BY Girl #736909YW Moderator-80Memberi never answered because he question has no significance.
and because i am not interested in participating in the cyclical discussion any further
but i can see you have been waiting to pounce upon me with that question at the first opportunity 😉
so here you go:
i dont know maybe there is nothing wrong with a mouse teaching shapes
maybe there is nothing wrong with the public library ad that is on page 42 of the toeva magazine.
do you stand over your child EVERY second she is watching, never away for a moment, deeply concentrating and analyzing the possible effect on her from everything she sees in this pervasive media designed by goyim and atheists, constructed from their values and ideas, with the remote in your hand ready to turn this thing off in every instant?
if so you are the only one.
if you feel the effect is minimal, go ahead
many people agree with you
if you were aware with a REAL sense and perception of the holiness of a Jewish neshama, not just intellectually, if you were aware with a palpable sense of the fleetingness of this world and the reality and permanence of the world to come, and what you are risking, for a little temporary tranquility and fun, i know you would feel differently about this
November 2, 2010 3:39 pm at 3:39 pm in reply to: Depressing Conversation With 7th Grade BY Girl #736906YW Moderator-80Membermany years ago a great Rebbe of mine wanted to get some video tapes of childrens shows to keep his young girl, who had downs syndrome, occupied for a while, to give his wife some time to function during the day. he said he wouldnt let her watch sesame street (i dont recall why), or barney. i said barney!? what could be wrong with barney. he said the children danced in a provocative and untznius manner. i wasnt sensitive enough at the time to appreciate that until he said it, and i watched again.
he finally decided she could watch mr rogers neighborhood and nothing else. no disney, sesame, or barney.
and this was a child with downs syndrome.
im sure some will argue with this, but this was a decision from a very wise man. i cant explain it any further

November 1, 2010 10:47 pm at 10:47 pm in reply to: Molesters: Why Do Some In Our Community Cover For Them? #711753YW Moderator-80Memberbut you wanted i suppose my logical evaluation of your argument.
i dont have any
November 1, 2010 10:46 pm at 10:46 pm in reply to: Molesters: Why Do Some In Our Community Cover For Them? #711751YW Moderator-80Memberokay popa i reviewed your posts a bit
i think you have a bit of a point but i cant really agree
certainly there are strong influences in most cases that stimulate these people to commit these acts but that doesnt lessen (personally) my revulsion and disgust at the perpetrators as well as the acts themselves.
i may have some feelings of pity for them, if i let myself, but this does not lessen my revulsion, and instinct for revenge as well as justice

November 1, 2010 10:27 pm at 10:27 pm in reply to: Molesters: Why Do Some In Our Community Cover For Them? #711747YW Moderator-80Memberi wouldnt know the Halachah
but i think he is being killed to remove a moser from this world
not to punish him for his evil intentions
although i would imagine that first it would be necessary to take all other possible steps towards a solution, such as trying to convince him that he is wrong.

YW Moderator-80MemberQuinoa
a species of goosefoot (Chenopodium), is a grain-like crop grown primarily for its edible seeds. It is a pseudocereal rather than a true cereal, or grain, as it is not a member of the grass family. As a chenopod, quinoa is closely related to species such as beets, spinach, and tumbleweeds. Its leaves are also eaten as a leaf vegetable, much like amaranth, but the commercial availability of quinoa greens is currently limited.
YW Moderator-80Membermaybe we do agree
i think i misunderstood what you were saying
for single orange “brew” you have to have special connections
us oj connoisseurs have to be resourceful
YW Moderator-80Memberive heard this issue discussed before, and every Posek i know says shehakol.
the reasoning of saying hoetz is very strong to me, an am haeretz, but of course i say shehokol, since that is the Halachah, as our Poskim tell us. why that is i have no idea.
i very strongly disagree with you that that Halachah is wrong but we say shehakol to listen to the Gedolim even though they are wrong.
the correct Halachah is shehakol, regardless of the reason, Minhag or whatever, that IS the Halachah because the Poskim tell us that is what we are to do.
November 1, 2010 3:21 pm at 3:21 pm in reply to: PVD – Posterior Vitreous Detachment & Birth #705217YW Moderator-80Memberemoticon
pvd is absolutely no problem whatsoever in giving birth, no matter how much strain and pressure. c-section is not necessary at all.
however pvd can sometimes be associated with certain retinal and vitreous abnormalities which should be treated (with laser) before a birth.
anyone with pvd should be evaluated by a retinal specialist, not just a stam ophthalmologist.

YW Moderator-80Memberi find glenrothes to be less excruciatingly horrible than the others
YW Moderator-80Memberbecause it CAN cause inflammation of the liver (or was it the gall bladder?)
the lining of the stomach (gastritis and gastric ulcers)
