about dinosaurs you tell them the truth.

they were very large animals that lived a long time ago and have now become extinct

in reply to: Should I donate my kidney? #836090

from the university of wisconsin school of medicines public health website:

“Kidney donation, most often, does not change your present lifestyle. It does not change the length of your life or increase your risk of getting kidney disease. It does not interfere with a woman’s ability to have children. You will not need to change your diet or take additional medicines. The other kidney will grow and take over the work of both kidneys.”

amblyopia is sometimes also referred to as a lazy eye, and the most common symptoms are strabismus

    almost

lazy eye is not a medical term and different people mean different things when they say it

but strabismus is not generally a symptom of amblyopia (except in certain unusual cases in adults) rather strabismus is ONE of the CAUSES of amblyopia.

what mr kaufman says is correct, however i believe cutie understands this and is exactly the point she is confused about.

ill restate her question if i may:

how can each person in the world believe that everything in the world depends on him alone? this is a self-contradiction. you might say well of course it cant be true but one should pretend that this is so, nevertheless, as a stimulus to Avodah. could be but i believe the inyon is much deeper than that.

in reply to: Vaccinations are bad? #995810

I was just talking about Frum Jews

i know, wasnt that the whole point of your discussion with pba? not sure what your last post has to do with this. we in the medical profession like to keep issues unrelated to the one presently under consideration, in abeyance. otherwise the uninformed will tend to become confused.

in reply to: Vaccinations are bad? #995806

money vs health is a very significant basis for making medical decisions. ever hear of cost:benefit ratios?

and if youll say well personal decisions are different, still cost vs probability is a very significant factor.

would you pay $150 to be guaranteed never to get zygomycosis?

    how about $1000?

    $10?

in reply to: whats the Brocho for peanut butter? #813673

the first 3 ingredients listed for skippy natural are:

    peanuts

    sugar

    palm oil

smuckers makes a “natural” peanut butter that is just peanuts and salt, but i dont know if it has a heksher

    thank you for the information.

in reply to: September 11 #814042

Torah is learned every day all over the world, probably every moment somewhere, that “has no nafka minah in this world.

it seems the Halchah and Inyon of dying al kiddush Hashem is not well understood, at least in this thread, and certainly it is Torah to discuss it.

i have nothing substanative to add but it seems pretty clear that this is not a case of al kiddush Hashem, although its a nice thing to say.

in reply to: whats the Brocho for peanut butter? #813671

i like almond butter but it is not significantly different than peanut butter in its nutritional makeup. it has a bit less carbohydrates but otherwise is nutritionally equivalent.

peanut butter as mentioned above has a lot of protein,

it also has a lot of fat (there are low fat varieties)

but the real problem with peanut butter is its high sugar content. ive never seen a low sugar variety.

in reply to: Bishvili Nivrei Oilam #812692

its a little tricky and deep but the easiest way to understand it (while necessarily removing some of the more esoteric meanings) is that for me alone, even if no one else existed, would be a sufficient reason for Hashem to have created the world.

in reply to: whats the Brocho for peanut butter? #813660

i often eat it from the jar, with a spoon

in reply to: whats the Brocho for peanut butter? #813659

peacemaker no you just make a Motzei, regardless of what the Brocho is on pb by itself

no one has said anything to me about a corneal transplant. argh

corneal epithelial basement membrane disease almost NEVER requires a corneal transplant. generally medical treatment is enough. occasionally the cornea needs to be “scraped” a painless in-office procedure, or a laser application.

thats why no one mentioned it to you.

in reply to: Honest dicussion? #811432

Why are honest dicussions getting shut down?

and because a discussion is honest (and civil) does not a priori mean it belongs on yeshiva world.

in reply to: Honest dicussion? #811431

(which will usually effectively end the bad posts)

unfortunately this is not always the case.

we do generally try that first but often it is innefective and our delete button stars getting hot, at which time the thread is closed.

there are other reasons for closing threads.

in reply to: Honest dicussion? #811430

    80- Why…………?

first of all because i post a lot, all the other moderators post little or not at all, i seem to be held responsible for every instance of moderation that occurs on this site

secondly, and this has been discussed here, in detail, many times, there are a whole variety of reasons why threads are closed, posts are deleted and edited, and i am not inclined to defend the moderation decisions further. we do not have the time to explain every action and respond to the (apparently) never ending posts (which are generally deleted) why did you delete this, close this edit this?

    end of story

    sorry

    thank you

in reply to: Hashkofos HaTelevision #811428

i thought i described what the op was talking about, in my post above, apparently some people still dont understand

    basically what he is saying:

there is a lot of influence of goyish values from living in a goyish world and being inundated by their media that all of us, to varying extents, have internalized it and confused it with Torah values. he was lamenting this fact.

to mr kaufman: the issue he was referring to, of the highly unfortunate and rampant internalization and admixture into our Torah values of goyish values, has nothing whatsoever to do with the issue of Mitzvahs and Takanahs that our Sages have instituted.

in reply to: Pictures on resumes #811464

I have my opinions and you have yours.

actually popa generally does not have his opinions. he just likes to have fun.

so, are you saying this hill where sam lived was a field of onions?

in reply to: Chasidim rioting against Beit Shemesh girl's school #811129

but then, a question was asked as to ones desire and i answered it. if anyone would prefer something else, thats up to you.

i dont believe i have anything else to say about the subject.

in reply to: Chasidim rioting against Beit Shemesh girl's school #811127

why should anyone in that community have the right to push out other valid opinions and Minhagim?

i love all opinions and Minhagim that are held by maaminin and upholders of our Mesorah from Moshe Rabbainu.

not those opinions that are derived from goyish values disguised by the yetzer harah as Torah.

in reply to: Chasidim rioting against Beit Shemesh girl's school #811126

Bais Shamai and Bais Hillel were maaminin and upholders of our Mesorah from Moshe Rabbainu.

to live in a ghetto where everyone was your version of frum by force (those who disagrred are forcibly removed), but have no interaction with the outside world,

in reply to: Do Married Guys Do Laundry? #1074858

    its true

in reply to: Hashkofos HaTelevision #811415

    peace

the problem you describe is THE nisoyin of our times, before Moshiach. we all are under the influence of the winds of the goyim that wave us like stalks of grain. it takes work to perceive it for what it is, and its not easy. the yetzer ha’rah spins webs of illusion and deceit that appear to be real, this has always been his main weapon. sometimes he even comes with rabbinic degrees.

we have to work on ourselves by learning works of Mussar and through strengthening our Tefillah.

    in reply to: kollel #811057

i think gavra answered your question

    in reply to: kollel #811054

    okay

    i wasnt being evasive though

i dont discuss too much with him other than Divrei Torah and the anyklach

    in reply to: kollel #811052

    i dont know

    i never asked him.

in reply to: Shelo Asani Isha #1050843

i never heard that before oomis

    i like it

    A LOT

    in reply to: kollel #811033

my son has been in Kollel many years now

neither myself nor the Kallahs parents, nor the government have “picked up the tab”

they are struggling, supporting themselves as they can, and loving every minute of it.

i know quite a few in a similar situation

some of them get Tzedakkah from brothers, sisters, parents, when they can.

but it is very popular to make wholesale destructive criticisms of the families and the “system”

i think it stems from envy, and perhaps some guilt, but im not sure.

    thanks for the clarification

in reply to: I am the youngest on the CR anyone nearly 13 and a half?? #811344

(not saying that is a bad thing).

    then what ARE you saying?

what do you mean by “sheltered view”?

    sheltered from what?

sheltered from that which is innapropriate and harmful for an individual?

isnt shelter something we need, like clothing and food?

in reply to: Halacha on Divorce #810518

its somewhere between eruvin and zevachos in the order of Daf Yomi,

my memory does not serve me better than that, sorry

in reply to: Halacha on Divorce #810516

were not going to discuss that here however

in reply to: Halacha on Divorce #810515

witnesses are necessary! unlikely as it may seem

witnesses to seclusion are not enough (as they are by Sotah)

theres a whole arichus in the Gemorah with machlochusim about exactly what needs to be witnessed, what actually constitutes adultery in technical detail

in reply to: Why Do the Women Get the Better Shmorg?! #820824

in reply to: shidduch dating, advice needed #810865

i think the main thing is to get a sense of him, it doesnt necessarily have to be before the date.

but a parent is always concerned before he puts his daughter into the control of a total stranger, that he at least doesnt seem dangerous or a total fool, no matter how good the references were.

he probably also wants to make sure hes not a zombie.

in reply to: OOT vs. NY #810670

could you explain to me, if you know, why are there so many games that involve zombies?

the part bolded (by me) represent exactly what i said in a thread about this here (if someone wants to look it up)

    Dear Ms. Kirby

Thank you for your letter inquiring about my membership. I did not renew it because I can not live with the statement below:

The evidence is incontrovertible: Global warming is occurring.

in reply to: NOT TZNIUS "BUBBIES" (also some fish, honey, and vinegar) #1200250

i dont like tilapia either but it has gotten to be the most poular fish lately, at least where i live.

in reply to: NOT TZNIUS "BUBBIES" (also some fish, honey, and vinegar) #1200248

    issue with tilAPIA?

    I DONT KNOW

    WHAT HAVE YOU HEARD?

    sorry capslock accident

in reply to: NOT TZNIUS "BUBBIES" (also some fish, honey, and vinegar) #1200245

tilapia seems to be the rage lately

personally i like halibut and chilean sea bass (which unfortunately has gotten pretty expensive)

now THOSE are real fish, none of that pink girlie stuff

in reply to: NOT TZNIUS "BUBBIES" (also some fish, honey, and vinegar) #1200241

salmon is an entity unto itself

nothing pink should be called fish

even rainbow trout is only a light tan

in reply to: NOT TZNIUS "BUBBIES" (also some fish, honey, and vinegar) #1200239

well best is to mix the honey and vinegar together

its not good for much by itself,

but if you add some oil, garlic and salt youll have a great salad dressing
