in reply to: Gan Eden & Gehenim #1097973

    im certain you are right

in reply to: If You Were The Moderator #989976

    finally a good suggestion

in reply to: Gan Eden & Gehenim #1097971

that is truly a taste of Gehinnom in this world

one accepted pshat of the fires of Ghinnom is that it is busha, severe busha from which there is no relief and of which one never becomes accustomed or hardened.

in reply to: Gan Eden & Gehenim #1097969

Rabbi Miller, tz’l emphasizes this point

and implied that for Yidden to se a glimpse into Gehinnom is part of the pshat as to why the Holocaust happened

in reply to: Gan Eden & Gehenim #1097967

i apologize to wolf by implying that he would poke fun at anyone. this is not something he generally does.

in reply to: Gan Eden & Gehenim #1097964

my personal suspicions are that this is wolfs personal brand of something akin to satire, and he does not really think he is going to Gehinnom but is poking fun at those who imply that he is, for believing such logical things and not being like a sheep and being led blindly without thought.

be that as it may, and wolf will certainly deny my pshat if given a chance, that is the end of this conversation, it doesnt belong here as wolf has said.

actually it gets erased from your screen (and immediately formed again) every time you scroll more than a pixel in any direction

in reply to: Siamese Twins #714580

    interesting

    not up my alley though

but of course it would be critically related to what the exact situation was, the type and extent of conjoining of the twins, and the cause of death to mention two

in reply to: Appropriate Workplaces For Women #715240

popa clearly was not making a Halachic distinction, but just painting a paradigmal example

in reply to: Hypothetical Agunah Question #715434

because a seemingly hypothetical question was asked.

the question was in no sense rhetorical and therefore the poster either wasnt thinking tightly when he wrote the subject or doesnt know what rhetorical means

in reply to: Hypothetical Agunah Question #715432

    the poster meant “hypothetical”

    in reply to: ??? ??? ????? #1193556

I often repeat it to myself in stressful times and as I am falling asleep at night.

what a most wonderful, rare, and important idea.

in reply to: What is the inyan of a mitzva tanz? #714672

and of course you meant “infer”

undoubtedly a rare slip, i know you know the difference

in reply to: What is the inyan of a mitzva tanz? #714670

    whats your best guess wolf?

in reply to: Time to blow some peoples minds here… #714450

and of course, every human being who comes from Odom HaRishon has a Tzelem Elokim. theres no room to argue otherwise

in reply to: Regretting doing the shidduch #733708

    myfriend is correct

but once they are married FORGET THAT REGRET, immediately and forever.

learn to love him and NEVER EVER let anyone know that you ever regretted this decision, NEVER. and especially keep it forgotten if you are ever angry at him or disagree with him. please remember this and resolve NOW before the potential situation arises to NEVER bring it up

in reply to: Time to blow some peoples minds here… #714449

    youre arguing about different concepts

it is well known that Jews have a higher form of Neshama than the people of the nations. this is a basic principle of Yiddishkeit mentioned many places especially the Ramchal.

is the behavior of Yidden better than that of the nations?

as a People, certainly, far better, far more moral, far closer to Hashem and his ways, far more gentle and kind and generous.

individuals? thats a whole different story. certainly the behavior of a particular goy can be considerably better than some particular Yid. mother theresa must have been far more beloved in Shamayim than bobby, but their potential was in no way comparable.

    Good call, 80

dont assume it was me. im the most visible moderator (though ive recently lost some weight) but theres a lot of moderators coming and going throughout the day who are more discrete.

in reply to: Popularity of Bourbon #731352

in reply to: Popularity of Bourbon #731336

in reply to: Popularity of Bourbon #731331

    thank you chesed

actually i tried amaretto a few years ago and i cant believe how great i thought it was

i kept giving it to friends to try and everyone seemed to like it

    then my brother-in-law tasted it

he said it tastes like robitussin

i tried it again and he was right

    i never drank it again

    how psychological are our tastes.

wolf i know how much you hate nitpicking, but still, knowing your mathematical prowess, isnt the convention usually to have point B between point A and point C.

(no smiley needed here i assume)

in reply to: Why type of car do you have? #714278

well, i may have exaggerated…just a little mind you….about my car.

If you go to a kiddush there are always more Scotches than Bourbons but the few bottles of Bourbon are always polished off.

    okay then bourbon it is

in reply to: Popularity of Bourbon #731306

not only the most civilized. they were considered as the paradigm of manners and kindness of all peoples in the world.

these opposite extremes undoubtedly were to teach the Jewish People a lesson.

unfortunately so many lessons that we have been taught over and over and over again, continually fall on blind ears and eyes.

nevertheless we are obligated to act with menchlikeit to goyim that we see, because this is what Hashem wants as Rav Auerbach said.

in reply to: Time to blow some peoples minds here… #714389

    yes youre right

just dont forget this is a complex inyan and dont judge everyone who has a negative opinion or who is not negative but is trying to be mkaim the inyon of havdallah

its not as simple as you are presenting it

i added in to your spin, some additional basic yesodik principles which we must not forget

in reply to: Sensitivity at Chanukah Get-Togethers #714316

what do you care if the giver didnt give it any thought or you dont feel it is appropriate?

    i give up

if you dont understand the concept of a gift and the menchlikeit of the receiver to be grateful and not judge the gift or the giver i will not be able to explain it to you.

in reply to: Time to blow some peoples minds here… #714386

I noticed theres quite a bit of anti Non Jew sentiment here as well as in the frum “velt” in general.

    be very careful

this is your perception that it is anti gentile sentiment

do not forget, on the other hand, the very important Mitzvah that the Jewish People must keep separate from the nations, neither mingle nor assimilate nor even follow their customs.

and even though there is a mixture of true anti-gentile sentiment along with this in the velt..we are a people that has been tortured, decimated, persecuted, murdered in the millions, throughout our history by these nations. let us not forget this. we do not turn the other cheek.

nevertheless, of course we must behave as menchen especially in times of peace where anti-semitism is as strong as ever, but buried beneath a thin veneer of tolerance.

in reply to: Sensitivity at Chanukah Get-Togethers #714313

yes gifts can say different things

but as the recipient, you have one obligation

    to be grateful

and certainly not to judge the giver

unless your attitude that it is not a gift but owed to you

in reply to: WORKING WITH FAMILY #714823

i do have experience in this area

many years ago i was asked to do something by a relative

i decided not to and she went elsewhere

it turned out to be a disaster

if i had done it it would have been very painful for both of us each time we saw each other, forever!

and her immediate family as well.

in addition i think i would have felt ashamed in front of my whole family even though i knew it wasnt my fault

this stands out as one of the best decisions i ever made, with the help of Hashem of course

in reply to: Sensitivity at Chanukah Get-Togethers #714309

by the way, what a nice thread.

in reply to: Sensitivity at Chanukah Get-Togethers #714308
