YW Moderator-80Member
i dont understand this whole thread
some kind of undertone of something
if anyone thinks some of these posts or the whole thread should be deleted, post that
i really dont understand what is going on here.
YW Moderator-80MemberAnd no jokes about taking it
im not joking. im quite serious. you know my email address. send it through paypal
YW Moderator-80Memberhttp://www.consumersearch.com/carbon-monoxide-detectors
in my opinion consumersearch is THE best online place for reliable, useful reviews,
they incorporate consumer reports as well as a number of other sources of reviews and summarize and analyze the results
YW Moderator-80Membermaybe the incr before the edible was inadvertently left out
YW Moderator-80Memberno there is no danger of CO2 toxicity from too many plants
YW Moderator-80Memberthanks midwest im a little closer to getting convinced
YW Moderator-80Memberthank you sacrilege
YW Moderator-80Member“solitary esophagus”
-mark twain-
YW Moderator-80Memberthe choicest pleasures of life lie within the ring of moderation
thats what i always say
Moderation is a fatal thing
CHAS V SHALOM !!
YW Moderator-80Membern dini momoinois minhag hamedina takes precedence over halacha
im sure you phrased that incorrectly, but of course nothing takes precedence over Halachah.
if dinai mamonis follows the minhag medina then that is becuse that is the Halacha
YW Moderator-80Memberand to correct you blueprints sound does not have to have a specific frequency, as opposed to specific subsets of sound such as a pure note
YW Moderator-80Memberthank you blueprints for the correction.
writing quickly causes many interesting phenomena 😉
YW Moderator-80Memberagent
if thats how you define sound then of course if no person is there (or other sentient being) then there is no sound, and there is no riddle!
YW Moderator-80Memberso, agent, you are defining sound as the aural perception by a sentient creature of vibrating physical media, or something like that, correct?
YW Moderator-80Memberdefine it any way you want, (although physics would define it as a vibration in a physical media, air in this case).
if you define it such then yes it makes a sound.
if you define it as perception then no it doesnt make a sound.
it is a riddle that is neither profound nor meaningful.
it merely depends on definition
YW Moderator-80Memberim considering an iomego?
icot
tell me the truth
if i told you i had a C drive with windows, all my programs and most of my data
and a D drive with some photos stored on it
and one day windows wouldnt boot (blue screen flashing on for 1/4 sec then back to bios), wouldnt load in safe or any other mode, not solved by windows reinstall.
would you consider a faulty D drive as the cause?
YW Moderator-80Memberdont want to sound gayvadik but i am well aquainted with that “riddle” and it does not have a solution. the answer simply depends on how you define “sound”
either as a physical vibrational movement of air
or as a perception by a sentient being.
YW Moderator-80Memberthe dimes becaause they are smaller thus more of them
whats the other riddle?
not the tree in the forest?
that has no answer, it depends on how you define “sound”
YW Moderator-80Memberfor any geeks that are interested
you might want to hear briefly about my computer almost disaster that prompted this thread
briefy
windowsXP would not load
did a repair reinstallation, no better
reseated the ram, no help
went to an expert
turned out, amazingly to me, that the D drive, which had no OS or programs, only storage for my pictures was corrupted, so windows located on the C drive would not load!
who would have thought
YW Moderator-80Membernot a consideration
i have 2 int drives in a desktop
320gig/500gig
YW Moderator-80Memberi think gavra was pulling some satire there
YW Moderator-80Memberyes dr salk of course
YW Moderator-80Memberthanks icot
so it doesnt seem too important for me then, at least not critical in any way; would you agree?
1. easier doesnt concern me so much
2. a consideration, but very minor for me, especially since i would probably keep any external drive in the same area as my computer
3. i wouldnt use it for anything else
4. same as 1. ?
5. not applicable
YW Moderator-80Memberthe fire/leak i hear (a pretty weak consideration though)
but as to the other answer and crdle answer:
you still have an intact drive either way, just in a different location, the backup on which can either way be transferred.
there must be something more fundamental, ext drives are so popular for backups
YW Moderator-80Membersaved by the Chasdei Hashem, so many times
YW Moderator-80Memberwell said nurse
still i would strongly recommend against home birth.
what is ideal is to have an enlightened OB backing up a good midwife in an enlightened birthing center/hospital
YW Moderator-80Memberthe only reason for not deleting the above post is because it is such a classical example of a twisted response to another poster.
note how he puts words into sjs mouth that she never said, implied, or even hinted at (such as that medical personnel are always negligent)
note how his angry response is far out of proportion to sjs calm friendly post.
disclaimer: it should be noted that in general i am in disagreement with sj on almost every issue, as she well knows.
but please lets try to argue with reason and mentchlikeit here
YW Moderator-80MemberBut then again, you could hypothesize lots of things
exactly my point
YW Moderator-80Membercave
YW Moderator-80MemberOK, but perhaps, maybe you’re right. Perhaps I need to work on myself
i didnt say that!
i HYPOTHESIZED that POSSIBLY that is what Rabbi Miller, tz’l MIGHT say to someone who was bothered by the actions of people around him.
YW Moderator-80Memberi was personally involved with home births for about 6 months, and hospital births for a year. i knew all the lines about the infection rate and c-sec rate in hospitals, the unfounded aggressive nature and surgical orientation of obs. all true. but i would never recommend someone to have a home birth, (almost)never.
on the other hand there are some terrible unnecessary things that go on with hospital births. for now the best answer is a compromise. a birthing center that is truly understanding of the process, a midwife directed birth, or an ob who has some sense, or a combination of all three
but never a home birth unless absolutely necessary for some reason
YW Moderator-80Memberbesides i made it clear i was completely hypothesizing.
probably you are right
im sure Rabbi Miller, tz’l would agree with you.
YW Moderator-80Memberi dont know why i answer your questions. you surely will pick the answer apart. i quite expected something along those lines.
i was responding to this post of yours which asked me the question with the key phrase: disturbs his neighbor and prevents him from davening properly?
i didnt know you were talking about a person davening like a freight train
YW Moderator-80Membera person needs zchus for the Rabbano Shel Olam to allow him to support Torah learning
YW Moderator-80Memberi dont know how Rabbi miller, tzl would answer your question wolf.
he might say no, under such circumstances a person should not daven loudly.
i could also hear him saying to the person who is bothered, it is proper to daven loudly and if someone is bothered he needs to work on himself.
i would guess that if someone asked a loud davener to please keep it down because it was bothering his davening Rabbi Miller, tz’l would agree that he should daven more quietly
YW Moderator-80Memberpeople here are understanding “davening” in different ways.
for example, youchie, Rabbi Miller, tzl was not referring to the silent Shemoneh Esrei, but to other areas of “davening”, particularly Pseulei D’Zimrah
YW Moderator-80Membergive the op a break
minhagim has a specific Halachic usage
but it is also loosed more loosely for “custom” or “typical behavior”
YW Moderator-80Memberpopa i see your point
YW Moderator-80Memberthat rule actually is ambiguous, even self-contradictory:
“resembling english”
“normal english”
i prefer to interpret it more towards the first definition
YW Moderator-80Member“rules” have a connotation of the implication of “required”
you should have said “guidelines”
YW Moderator-80Memberim very glad to see you back
“remind me if i forget” wonderful.
YW Moderator-80Memberyou can put an axis anywhere you want
but when you compare your position to the “position” of the virtual person im the mirror there has been a virtual rotation along the up down axis. of course there was no rotation at all just we pretend there is another person in the mirror and according to his perspective, his right is our left.
forget the mirror, stand facing another person. you have the same perspective as far as up-down. also east west. north south, but right left are called depending on whos perspective. this is just a convention of nomenclature but does not represent any reality
YW Moderator-80Membernothing is inverted
its a matter of nomenclature
up and down is the same however you rotate yourself through an axis going from your head to toes
right to left only “changes” because we imagine the perspective of the person in the image, and change the nomenclature accordingly.
YW Moderator-80Memberthats a good question and deserves a good answer.
so what do the Meforshim TELL us that it means?
YW Moderator-80Memberplease…..read the title and the first few responses.
no one is arguing that “being” in love is only a non-Jewish idea.
read: “falling”
YW Moderator-80Memberwolf i think that quote and the whole thread have to do with “falling” in love, not “being” in love.
in other words the question at hand is the concept of meeting someone for a few minutes, or just looking at them once, or going on a date or two and deciding you are in love with them.
YW Moderator-80Memberno-one told you what to do.
if you want to have a dog, wonderful
yes people have expressed their opinions here
if you dont think those opinions matter you are perfectly free to disregard them
this is a forum
there are people who dont have your opinion
YW Moderator-80Memberthanks
YW Moderator-80Memberi thought it was 600,000 sheep?
YW Moderator-80Memberexactly popa
but i did address this here
http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/global-warming-1?view=all#post-183853
and a little differently in other threads
the temperature of the earth varies over times and there are variences within the variences and smaller variances within those, trends within trends
to take an infinitesimal period of time and chart the trend during that time tells you close to NOTHING about the larger trend, and where that larger trend fits in the even larger trends.
besides how do you measure the earth temperature?
on the surface?
a mile high?
an average of all heights?
the ground temperature, how many locations, which locations?, the ground temperature varies quite widely all over the surface of the earth. right now where i live the temperature near the lake and a mere 2 miles away is 10 degrees different.
anything less that millions and millions of measurements many times during the day will be innacurate.
the sea temperature, how deep in the sea, an average of all depths?
what horizontal locations?
do you average all locations or give more weight to some?
average the ground temperatures with the sea temperatures?
how about the ice temperatures below the surface?
and the locations of measurement must be consistent throughout time
do we have even ONE DAY with temperature measurements all over the globe horizontally, all over the globe vertically from the depths of the ocean to the heights of the atmosphere.
to claim there is global warming is the epitome of stupidity, short-sightedness, and arrogance
which the scientism of deep theory has always been guilty of
