    im not blaming anyone

i was suggesting the most beneficial course of action for you to take

i am not putting an onus on anyone, you are free to behave as you see fit. i was suggesting the potential onus is actually an opportunity.

im not judging you. you certainly seem to be in the right. i will judge your neighbors, if you wish. from what you said they are wrong and it certainly would be proper for them to stop this behavior immediately. an apology from them would probably be in order also.

but i wasnt talking about them

i was talking to you about you

in reply to: Loud and obnoxious neighbors #754420

so mod 80 what should i do?

    you should be selfish

you should think about yourself and your Neshamah, and not worry about them, worry about yourself.

you should remove the power you have given them to control your thoughts and emotions

you should realize it is a test

you should be overly nice and not critical of them and talk to them in this manner seeing if they can help you

if this fails you should continue to realize it is all in the hands of Hashem

you should calmy think about what steps you should take as Hishtadlus

you sould getthe advice and counsel of a Talmid Chochom

you should not lose your temper but calmly listen to his advice even if it doesnt seem fair to you

you should speak to the building manager if you have to

you should still continue to be friendly with your neighbor and make it clear that you see their side but hopefully they can see your side as well

you should keep smiling when talking to them

you should not give others the power to push your buttons

you should learn the mussar of hatred and revenge

YOU SHOULD STUDY AND THINK DEEPLY INTO THE WONDERFUL WONDERFUL GIFT HASHEM BESTOWS ON THOSE THAT OVERLOOK THE WRONGS DONE TO THEM, EVEN WHEN THEY ARE RIGHT!

you should think about the bigger picture

you should remember that this world is only a fleeting preparation for the real world

you should learn the mussar of controlling your anger

you should daven to Hashem to guide you in how you should handle this situation

you should daven to Hashem to help you acquire true Emunah and Bitochan

in reply to: Loud and obnoxious neighbors #754411

you are right goq and they are wrong, true

so how are you going to serve Hashem with this difficult nisoyin?

turn down their heat like yogi did?

    flatten their tires?

shoot them? that happens all the time in neighbor disputes among the goyim.

what are you going to do?

dont you see where this is heading, chas v shalom?

in reply to: R' Shimshon Pincus zt"l #741512

i have no stories, never met him

one of the greatest Tzaddikim of our generation

i did hear that on the day he was in the fatal accident one of his other daughters wanted to come with him, she begged him but he refused to let her.

in reply to: Kosher Movies/ Torah TV #743294

    from wikipedia:

“There are currently (2011) three main frame rate standards in the TV and movie-making business: 24p, 25p, and 30p. However there are many variations on these as well as newer emerging standards.”

in reply to: Friday Night Minhagim #741605

no he didnt post that (though he could have)

i assumed those werent their actual names

in reply to: Loud and obnoxious neighbors #754382

this is a keg of dynamite ready to explode, chas v’ shalom.

you may be in the right.

nevertheless i would extremely strongly advise you to drop the matter, swallow your pride, learn to live with it, even smile and be friendly and do not mention it again.

if you do this for the sake of peace between Jews, for the sake of avoiding machlokes, for the sake of Hashem, even though you are being wronged your reward will be inestimable. just as you overlook the wrongs committed to you, so will Hashem overlook the wrongs you have committed to Him. The Reward will be inestimable, great beyond comprehension, real, and forever.

you will have to overcome your pride however, very very difficult. speak to a wise Talmid Chochum if you can find one, preferably with a long, grey beard. learn the Mesillas Yesharim on pride

it is sung in honor of the wife

it is sung in honor of Shabbos

it is sung in honor of the Torah, this is probably the primary pshat even though the words seem to be referring to a woman

    (similar to Shir Ha Shirim)

that is why even unmarried men and boys sing it

in reply to: Hechsher on soaps and sponges? #743839

so i believe cherrybim is essentially correct

i still dont like the calling of such concerns a bubba maisah however

in reply to: Hechsher on soaps and sponges? #743838

    some salient quotes:

The common custom nowadays is to use permit all soaps, even when containing non-kosher materials . Although there are Gedolei Yisroel, past and present, that are known to have been privately cautious in this area, vigilance from soaps is considered a chumra. The accepted practice amongst the masses is to use all soaps.

A lenient position based on the gemara in Avodah Zarah should apply even if dishwashing soap would contain non-kosher components in significant proportions. However, it is interesting to note that in reality the likelihood that a soap would contain non-kosher or animal derivatives is very minimal .

Like all other issues, consumers should consult their Rabbonim for direction.

maybe youll tell me they dont use lard anymore, could be, i have no idea, but i like to know a Kashrus organization is watching it. i feel better, and cleaner.

in reply to: Sofer Checking Tefilin or Mezuzos #740568

SZ is correct. 2x in 7 years applies only to mezuzos.

“twice every seven years is the rule for mezuzot (Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim 39:10). However the Mishna Brura (39:26) quoting the Magen Avraham, states that it is advisable that tefillin also be checked twice every seven years.”

s2021 gets that name from gene 2021 in the human genome:

The protein encoded by this gene is a nuclear encoded endonuclease that is localized in the mitochondrion. The encoded protein is widely distributed among animals and cleaves DNA at GC tracts. This protein is capable of generating the RNA primers required by DNA polymerase gamma to initiate replication of mitochondrial DNA.

deleting vs closing has nothing to do with the time it takes.

sometimes a thread was bad from the beginning—deleted

just try to imagine life in NYC one day after the police dept would be disbanded and nullified.

here is information on **some** of the diseases caused by rats, as gathered from the Center For Disease Control & Prevention http://www.cdc.gov

Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS): Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) is a deadly disease transmitted by infected rodents through urine, droppings, or saliva. Humans can contract the disease when they breathe in aerosolized virus. HPS was first recognized in 1993 and has since been identified throughout the United States. Although rare, HPS is potentially deadly. Rodent control in and around the home remains the primary strategy for preventing hantavirus infection.

Murine Typhus: Murine typhus (caused by infection with R. typhi) occurs worldwide and is transmitted to humans by rat fleas. Flea-infested rats can be found throughout the year in humid tropical environments, but in temperate regions are most common during the warm summer months. Travelers who visit in rat-infested buildings and homes, especially in harbor or riverine environments, can be at risk for exposure to the agent of murine typhus.

Rat-bite fever (RBF): Rat-bite fever (RBF) is a systemic bacterial illness caused by Streptobacillus moniliformis that can be acquired through the bite or scratch of a rodent or the ingestion of food or water contaminated with rat feces.

Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium: As its name suggests, it causes a typhoid-like disease in mice. In humans S. Typhimurium does not cause as severe disease as S. Typhi, and is not normally fatal. The disease is characterized by diarrhea, abdominal cramps, vomiting and nausea, and generally lasts up to 7 days. Unfortunately, in immunocompromized people, that is the elderly, young, or people with depressed immune systems, Salmonella infections are often fatal if they are not treated with antibiotics.

Leptospirosis: Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that affects humans and animals. It is caused by bacteria of the genus Leptospira. In humans it causes a wide range of symptoms, and some infected persons may have no symptoms at all. Symptoms of leptospirosis include high fever, severe headache, chills, muscle aches, and vomiting, and may include jaundice (yellow skin and eyes), red eyes, abdominal pain, diarrhea, or a rash. If the disease is not treated, the patient could develop kidney damage, meningitis (inflammation of the membrane around the brain and spinal cord), liver failure, and respiratory distress. In rare cases death occurs.

Eosinophilic Meningitis: Eosinophilic meningitis is an infection of the brain occurring in association with an increase in the number of eosinophils, white blood cells that are associated with infection with worms that penetrate into the body. The organism most commonly causing eosinophilic meningitis is a rat lung worm called angiostrongylus cantonensis.

The only reason not to have a cat is if one is allergic

    or doesnt like cats

or doesnt want their expensive furniture ruined

or doesnt want their infants face scratched

or doesnt want their own face scratched

    or doesnt want the expense

or doesnt want to fool with cat excrement

or doesnt want to worry about contracting toxoplasmosis

    or other feline contracted diseases.

    AOM

the issue is not only refuah but tochain.

as these supplements are not diminished in their effect by missing a few doses, many poskim are not mater their use on Shabbos.

i dont know what “food supplement” means Halachically, but these items are not food. nor are they imbibed derech achilah.

in reply to: Natural Health #739021

most are metabolized by your system and excreted in your urine.

A, D, E, and K are fat-soluble and their levels in the body are strongly dose dependent. they are not primarily excreted in the urine.

therefore there are chronic overdosage syndromes associated with high doses.

most other vitamins are not stored in the body and the excess is excreted.
