you have no idea of the life of a moderator

i have to be always on the alert, as the defense department frequently calls me in if their war simulation computers are acting up. they shut them down temporarily and i run the simulations in my head.

as Rabbi Miller, tz’l has explained many times it is because the Yetzer Hara has raised a huge kitrug against Talmedei Chochomim.

In addition, those that have not absorbed and nurtured a true Torah Daas see darkness as light and light as darkness.

the same reasons why Jews themselves have always been hated.

for certain moderators with subpar IQs

we were forced to the old system of using their age

in reply to: When the MODS fall asleep…… #1209575

    ive answered that question before

the moderator number represents half (due to our humility) the IQ of the moderator

    yes popa, way

    in reply to: Oxymorons #797834

    its not an oxymoron

megilas is the construct form of the word.

you can properly translate “Megilas Esther” as “the revealing of the hidden”

and that is not an oxymoron either as revealing something hidden just means that it WAS hidden but NOW is revealed

oh i see you ae talking about maps

i thought, for some reason we were talking about a globe

    in reply to: East-West-North-South. #751899

another way of looking at it

if north or south is on top, it stays on top as you rotate the globe.

if you place north on say the left, then as you rotate the globe the area of the earth on top is constantly changing

    in reply to: East-West-North-South. #751898

you cant have east on top as east is not a place, it has no location, it is only a direction.

north and south are locations (as well as directions towards those locations) as defined either by geomagnetism or the rotational axis.

you can walk “towards the east” for an infinitely long distance.

you can only walk towards the north until you get there (about maybe 6,000 miles from the equator, also a place)

another possibility is that, hard as this is to believe, they thought they were being funny

in reply to: Guy and Girls on Purim #751957

BTW, the explanation as to why so many posts said the same thing is because they were posted when the earlier ones were not yet approved.

there was an autism thread on which the poster “chance”, whom elisha is referring to, promulgated that vaccines cause autism. chances last post was in the beginning of november.

just be careful you dont become rigidly fixed in any particular direction.

there is also a place for criticism, for Tochacha, for guidance in improving, for discipline.

i think popa has found the crux of the problem.

but still i think it is good for someone who has a fair degree of Emunah to discuss it, both cognitively and emotionally, including his own possible questions and how he deals with them, with someone who wants to find that which he knows deep down is the Emes.

in reply to: When young adult leaves to be Frei #776716

i wasnt trying to win any argument with anyone

i was trying to explain the Rambam , as i understood him, to someone here who mentioned it.

but, in any case, some will find meaning in it, and some wont. it all depends on what one is looking for.

in reply to: When young adult leaves to be Frei #776712

of course by “logic” (which sounds like some kind of unchanging ultimate Truth) what you really mean is human logic, formulated by puny, human minds and culture.

yes, Hashem is not bound by our understanding of the universe.

in reply to: When young adult leaves to be Frei #776710

i believe the Rambam was addressing the question about the supposed conflict between free will and Daas Hashem (the fact that Hashem knows what will happen)

i dont know his exact approach but it was explained to me something like this:

Q: it is not possible for me to reconcile free will with Daas Hashem. this is an unresolvable paradox and it really bothers me.

A: does the conflict between free will and Salvanism bother you as well? Do you find a paradox there?

Q: of course not, i have no idea what Salvanism is!

A: and you think you understand the Mind of Hashem, His Daas?

in reply to: How Do I Repay? #748405

    C A D

i agree with your general assesment of this topic but for different reasons

i dont know about the Halacha, but when someone volunteers to do a job he has a certain responsibility to make sure he does it properly. after all the job is important to the one that asked for it to be done, and had he known the volunteer would do a subpar job he might have arranged for a different person to do the work.

so, at least in a moral sense, you do “owe” something to the “employer”

in reply to: How Do I Repay? #748395

did you make any mention of the water you would drink at the event?

what about the use of their tables to place your equipment on?

did you stand on the floor? although minor, i imagine your walking might have weakened the structure of the building to a small degree?

do you know exactly how much it contributed?

perhaps you should hire an engineer to find out?

did you speak to anyone there not 100% necessary to your job? did that distract them temporarily from paying attention to the event?

i think your Halachic problems are just beginning.
