no i didnt ask him that. the fact that he said i should sit on the jury implied that i should conduct myself in that capacity according to the laws of the state.

he didnt say anything about a need to investigate the Jews degree of frumkeit.

in reply to: Jury Duty #777730

i asked a Posek various questions before i went on jury duty.

he said i could be a juror on a case where the defendant is a Jew.

but i could not participate in litigation between two Jews.

in reply to: Avoiding Even The Appearance of Impropriety… #777634

And yet, many frum Jews would consider me a heretic and a lousy human being anyway.

lousy: the condition of being infected with lice

in reply to: The Weather Thread #778808

    sounds scary

in reply to: The Weather Thread #778806

they are also predicting, based on previous trends, a wide variation in weather around the globe tomorrow

in reply to: The Weather Thread #778805

well they are saying that based only on previous trends, i dont know if they have any advance data on that

Mod 80 – I dont think a single poster feels this is an issue

    haifagirl does

that is reason enough for her to post.

and if no one agrees with her the thread will soon die down from natural attrition

unless a few posters get all riled up because they dont feel this is an important enough issue

in reply to: Yet another tznius issue (but probably not a crisis) #778280

I think when you make issues out of nothing then it can turn ppl away. why are you making a big stink out of nothing?!?!?!?!

she doesnt agree with you that it is nothing.

she didnt make a big stink.

in reply to: Yet another tznius issue (but probably not a crisis) #778274

    i know haifagirl

she is an intelligent, insightful person.

this particular issue is significant to her

because you, and a few others think it is nutty, i should close the thread?

and what does this have to do with the fact that there are other more serious tznius issues? do you mean to say that no one can point out a problem that others may have not been aware of because it doesnt rate high enough on your importance scale?

we shouldnt take measures against salmonella because it is not as severe as botulism?

in reply to: JULY 4TH #1022505

im not sure how i came to use it either

ill switch to ztl (b’li neder) (or should i say neder b’li)

    thanks

in reply to: JULY 4TH #1022498

    i dont know

do you think ztl is better?

in reply to: JULY 4TH #1022495

Rabbi Avigdor Miller, tzl, who said it is very innapropriate to celebrate “thanksgiving” in any way, and every effort should be made, if possible, to have nothing to do with it,

also said that every frum Jew should publicly celebrate July 4. on his shul they would display a us flag.

do you think there is a problem with them, msk?

in reply to: Yet another tznius issue (but probably not a crisis) #778265

she stated her point clearly, openly, and unambiguously. why are you asking what her point is?

if you missed it she stated that she felt the location of the patches on these girls uniforms was inappropriate and there are other more appropriate places the patches could be located.

why dont you state YOUR point instead of simply being critical by innuendo

    advocacy of mesirah

i would say advocacy, instigation, and facilitation of mesira

in reply to: What is wrong with selling shul to Buddhist? #778721

Why should there be a problem?

    thats a good question.

    what are the relevant Halachas?

    what did the Poskim say?

in reply to: Raising the Pinky #1115278

maybe it depends on the area of the country

by me, id say about a fourth of the men do it

    the Rabbaim generally dont

could be youre right that it was originally a purely Sephardi minhag

theres a lot of mixing nowadays

in reply to: People Who Should Never Get Married #777858

    ahh…i see

    thanks again

    thaanks daas

    i dont get the “even”

it seems pashut that he could marry a woman who cant bear children

the question should be can he EVEN marry a woman who CAN bear children

in reply to: Would You Date a Guy Who Drives a Mustang? #776859

    just have to say bpt

your comments on a variety of threads lately have been insightful

in reply to: People Who Should Never Get Married #777847

is a man who is physically unable to have children obligated to get married?

is he allowed to marry a woman who is capable of having children? (or at least there is no indication that she is not capable)

    take the mushrooms

i know you dont like them but you are low on certain antioxidants that the mushrooms can supply.

try the pumpernickle, i think as an accompaniment you will find it superior to the plain roll. give it a try

    you wont be dissapointed.

in reply to: Business travel #776550

    coke

    easy

caesar salad topped with grilled salmon chunks

in reply to: Business travel #776547

i would think you would be the type for a hamburger on pumpernickle, medium well, with some grilled onions and mushrooms on it.

i leave the condiments up to you but i dont think you need any.

in reply to: People Who Should Never Get Married #777840

i didnt go back and look at the other thread

in reply to: Wouldnt the Mekubal see whats in store for Weiner? #776412

Kind of “if you know he’s a mekubal, then he ain’t.” 🙂

    yes, pretty much.

except that some mekubalim have chosen for their own reasons to become known as such, or they became known against their wishes.

in reply to: People Who Should Never Get Married #777837

maybe what was meant by there are “numerous reasons” it is “assur for certain people to marry”.

is: assur for certain people to marry each other, like a grusha to a Kohein.

in reply to: Wouldnt the Mekubal see whats in store for Weiner? #776410

there are a number of frauds who are mekabel the title of mekubal with no justification.

then there are those who truly learn Kabbalah. most are silent about it.

you want a corned beef sandwich on rye (with seeds) with some mustard. served warm.

or alternatively, the same thing, but pastrami instead of corned beef

cum laude – Your post sounds like you’re a student in some sort of social work or psychology program. The CR isn’t the best place to try out what you learned. How about suggesting she go see a mental health professional?

unbelievable, but not surprising at all.

    AGAIN

no one is compelled to produce a source

no one is compelled to retract if he so fails to do

if someone is asked for a source (or even “hounded” for one) and is unable to provide one, you may consider the significance of that fact, as well as everyone else.

i personally could not give you the source for 98% of what i hold, without timeconsuming research.

    pretty strong language veteran

    try reading my post again

i stated no opinion suggesting he should not give her a ride and i certainly did not say it was a gezeirah

    i extrapolated nothing.

i was responding in a general way to the post above mine authored by middlepath wherein he stated the ridiculousness of the concept of not doing something with the assumption that it will always lead to a problem, implying since an action doesnt always lead to a problem it should be okay to do it.

my explanation was that there is a Torah principle to protect ourselves from transgressions which the Chochomim did time after time.

i did not say i, in the manner of the Chochomim, hereby assur him from giving her a ride.

i dont know if ive explained this properly but i have no more time. i just am angered by your reply to me and felt a need to respond

as far as im concerned i will not carry this further after Shavuos

in reply to: Proper pronunciation of words in prayers #793817

    no, im not that outraged.

what did the publishers say in their defense when you spoke to them?

    in reply to: Shidduch #775836

when someone respects someone elses opinion, usually they dont say it is ridiculous.

the concern is not that something will defininitely happen, or even likely to happen. we dont put ourselves in situations that might lead to transgressions, most Takanas Chochomim are based on this principle, muktzah, yichud, yayin nesech and on and on

i am outraged about the article.
