September 7, 2010 8:21 pm at 8:21 pm in reply to: Help Yedei Chesed win the Pepsi Refresh Project! #695826YW Moderator-72ParticipantWellInformedYid – getting under 100 is my short term goal (next several hours). the ultimate goal is getting in the top 10 by the close of the contest on September 30, 2010 because the top 10 positions will receive the $50,000 grant.
If we can get this to go viral and pick up the support from Yidden from all over – the goal of getting in the top 10 is realistic.
We need everyone’s support in voting for us and for drumming up support for us. We lose 6 days for Yom Tov yet if we get the word out on the blogs Jewish news sites and get some good press with help from HaShem we can win and be able to provide these needed services.

YW Moderator-72Participant4 rules regarding Yom Kippur
1) talk to your doctor
2) Talk to your Rav and tell him what your doctor said
3) FOLLOW their guidance
4) use common sense.
I dread the sudden drop overnight… based on my guidance I will skip my pre-Yom Tov pills.
September 5, 2010 3:35 am at 3:35 am in reply to: Help Yedei Chesed win the Pepsi Refresh Project! #695797YW Moderator-72Participantfrom e’Shabbos to M’Shabbos we lost 9 spots. Since Shabbos has been out here in the Greater NY Metro area we jumped 15 places!
with some good publicity and a lot of help we can really move forward. Please share the link and text numbers with all your contact lists and hopefully all the Yidden will rally around us and help us to serve our consumers.
We need a lot of support for this early on because we will lose at 6 voting days for Yom Tov.
thanks!

YW Moderator-72ParticipantBOSD – that is what the dr said. she said I should take 1/2 a pill if my carb intake is high. I had a std dinner and I crashed anyway.
YW Moderator-72Participantthis is weird… I can have he same dinner 2 nights in a row and take the same med dosage and 1 night I am fine and the next night I am up at 3am because my level dropped to 50… go figure…
YW Moderator-72Participanti asked my doc what causes this… if I eat to many carbs the interaction with the med causes it to drop. she said i should take 1/2 a pill and I didn’t calculate the carbs too well and I took a whole pill. I still feel off balance today.
YW Moderator-72ParticipantGut voch everyone!
I had one of those crashes last night. I awoke at about 3am and was shaking and off balance. I did a blood test and it came back at 52!

“Health sciences student and what do you do?”
“When did I compare myself to a doctor or specialist?”
“I have every right to comment as a medical professional”
please do us all a favor: make up one story as to who you are and stick with it.
how does a health sciences STUDENT qualify you to comment as a medical professional? you can comment all you want, from the way I read the board most of the others really do not care what you have to say. you should understand one thing – a support group is not looking for a lecture they are looking to discuss feelings and real life scenarios. so keep on posting and I for one will just start ignoring you.
YW Moderator-72ParticipantHealth – one thing we diabetics do not do is to listen to an anonymous blogger (yes even a health sciences student blogger) when it comes to the management of our diabetes. We may use reliable medical sites (mayoclinic, webmd etc.) to gather information and to further our education and treatment however our primary source is our doctor.
The purpose of this thread was not to attack or put down people with diabetes. It is an anonymous outlet for people who may need to express themselves. Although the thread is not closed to non-diabetics, I request that you respect the rights of those that are diabetics and that do post here. Every diabetic person on the board knows more about diabetes and living with diabetes than you do. Please stop offering your unqualified “medical” advice.
YW Moderator-72ParticipantHealth – If I was modding I would not have let your inane comment see the light of day. facts are facts. their is enough stress on these young ladies in the shidduch scene with diabetes. now for you to tell them that is it great that they are type 1 as opposed to type 2 because now they will probably be skinny only adds stress – especially to those that do not meet your criteria of the perfect woman.
Do you have any clue how many young ladies have emotional disorders trying to maintain a size 0 or size 2 at most? sorry – it isn’t healthy. btw if someone has an eating disorder would you tell them that it is great that they have anorexia or bulimia as opposed to overeating because at least that means that they are skinny?
forever1 – I understand the reality. sadly you are correct…
regarding lancets: rarely change them – maybe once a week or once every two weeks. maybe I will do change it tonight.
YW Moderator-72Participantallsgr8 – yes it is type 2. I was diagnosed about 9 years ago.
to all those that are concerned re: shidduchim and keeping everything secret, I can understand your perspective, however, there will have to come a time to tell the other person.
I am familiar with a young couple and one of them had a different medical issue. early on the impacted party told the other person and what the ramifications and life adjustments are. the other party thought about / learned about it and went ahead – with no regrets.
now back to my story. I was married several years before I developed type 2. As far as I know mrs. 72 has no regrets being married to me because I am now diabetic (maybe other reasons…)
We have all heard tragic stories of young healthy people who took ill or developed some condition (physical or mental/emotional) shortly after the chuppah or within a few years. The point is no one knows what is ahead of them.
For a potential shidduch to be nixed because someone is diabetic is short sighted. I know of a few young ladies that developed diabetes while expecting. Some went back to non-diabetic after, others didn’t – should a fellow rule out every shidduch because she might develop gestational diabetes or should every girl say NO because maybe someday the fellow will develop diabetes? naturally the short answer is no. the longer answer is education / understanding and being willing to respect another person and not let diabetes get in the way of a potential relationship. I wish you all Hatzlacha and may we here b’soros tovos and may all be healthy always!
final note to health: who says that being skinny is so important in life? If I wasn’t retired as a moderator, I would have deleted your comment.
YW Moderator-72Participantyes, I know it says retire next to my name and pretty much I am. 42 told me that this thread has been quite active lately.
I had an interesting experience last week. I had a fairly high carb (yes, whole wheat for those that remember me) and I took my normal bedtime meds. about 2 to 3 hours after I went to sleep I awoke with weird symptoms. dizzy, shaky, my heart felt like it was going to jump out of my chest. I dragged myself to my kitchen and tested my sugar. it was 50! I did what I needed to do to raise the sugar.
It just so happened that I had an appointment with Dr. Kaplun in Suffern, NY, (my endocrinologist) the next day and she explained that the high carb intake caused the pancreas to produce insulin and the pill pushed it too far therefor the low sugar. She told to take 1/2 a pill after a high carb meal.
YW Moderator-72Participant…is someone looking for me?

YW Moderator-72Participantthanks for the tactical air support squeak!
YW Moderator-72ParticipantThanks for clarifying the situation ames… I was thinking that I might need to ban Jax for impersonating a moderator in order to get a designer label YW Moderator sweatshirt…

YW Moderator-72Participanthere is the Poll question #2 of the day:
1) should the weekly Jewish oriented newspapers be designated as as Male or Female versions in entirety?
2) should the weekly Jewish oriented newspapers have designated pages as as Male or Female pages with no gender neutral pages?
3) should the weekly Jewish oriented newspapers have designated pages as as Male or Female pages only with some gender neutral pages?
YW Moderator-72ParticipantIf we make a Men Only thread, does that mean that the men will only be allowed to post to that thread and women will only be allowed to post to the ladies only thread?
If there are going to be gender neutral threads, what is the point of the separate threads.
here is the Poll question of the day:
1) Do we designate all new threads as Male or Female use only and close all previous threads?
2) Do we designate all new threads as Male or Female use only and label all previous threads appropriately?
3) Do we designate all new threads as Male or Female use and allow all previous threads to remain gender neutral?
4) Do we scrap the whole labeling of threads with the exception of The Women’s Tznius Support Group?

YW Moderator-72Participantperhaps a good idea would be to call the Rosh Yeshiva.
YW Moderator-72ParticipantI received the following via email.
Simchas Torah or just simcha
If on any given Shabbos or Chag (or Monday/Thursday) someone would drink to excess prior to the Torah reading, would we allow them to handle the Torah or receive an aliyah? Would we allow them to heckle the person who received an aliyah? Why do we allow it on Simchas Torah?
If a person showed up at the Siyum HaShas in Madison Square Garden and downed half a bottle(or more) of scotch and behaved in an inappropriate manner would he be allowed to stay in or would security escort him out? Why do we allow it on the the Siyum of the Torah SheBichsav
Just like some Bar Mitzvah celebrations have more emphasis on the bar and less on the Mitzvah it appears that Simchas Torah is becoming more emphasis on the simcha and less on the Torah.
YW Moderator-72Participantit is not controversy that gets a topic closed. sometimes a topic is closed for various reasons including but not limited to:
– the argument has become circular with each side repeatedly stating their case and nothing new being added
– the supporters on either side of the argument have become heated and instead of arguing the point, bash the other posters (as if that makes their point correct)
– the topic has gone completely off topic and there is little hope of bringing it back on topic.
…
YW Moderator-72Participanttelegrok: please send me an email. thank you.
