Two tips about time travel:
1. Forget the past, you can’t change it.
2. Forget the present, I ain’t getting you one.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorYW Moderator-42ModeratorCorrect Goq, ants aren’t Kosher.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorI’ll repost this for the benefit of those who don’t know yet or have forgotten.
To see threads that have “fallen off” the main CR page type into the address bar:
http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/page/2
http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/page/3
http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/page/4
…
http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/page/10
etc…
So how many pages are we now up to?
YW Moderator-42ModeratorVery nice. I heard that the b’nei Yisrael were saved from mitzraim in the zchus of tzedaka and the final geula will also be in the zchus of tzedaka.
Tzedaka is a mitzvah that everybody is capable of fulfilling to the fullest. There are many mitzvos that we unfortunately cannot do nowadays (korbanos, etc). Then there are other mitvos that we can do but not necessarily to the fullest. The mitzvah of tefillin for example is limited by money because you are limited to what you can afford, some people can buy the most mehudar, some can’t. But tzedaka, believe it or not, is not like this. The mitzvah of tzedaka is to give what you can in the best way possible. A rich g’vir and a poor ani can both fulfill the mitzvah the same. Therefore it is davka this mitzvah that will bring the final geula as it says “tzion bimishpat tipadeh v’shaveha bitzedaka”
YW Moderator-42ModeratorBar Shatya, how about the Tanta Diet? I need a diet that includes pringles.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorHacham, when a bochur skips a tfila his classmates notice and it can negatively influence them whereas if he talks to girls privately and his classmates don’t know about it then it won’t affect them. I heard somewhere that throwing a kid out of yeshiva is a case of dinei nefashos and should be treated as such.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorMod 80, I think ron has a good point. You shouldn’t be calling this hurricane by its name since you are male and it is female. Didn’t you pay attention to the 4th lesson of the 8th week of Mod training?

YW Moderator-42ModeratorOnce you post, you’re toast.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorThe Keshef Mishna? Is that a peirush on Harry Potter?
YW Moderator-42ModeratorOy. This was painful to read: http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news/archive/99960/Halachically+Speaking:+Halachos+For+The+Summer+(Part+7).html
YW Moderator-42ModeratorWe seem to have two topics about this. I guess the CR can use a merge topics feature. The other thread is at http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/new-sheves-achim-2
August 22, 2011 3:37 am at 3:37 am in reply to: You are what you bring into your home! (For movie watchers…) #800826YW Moderator-42ModeratorAyc, I think you are correct. I have heard from Rabbi Shaffier of The Shmuz many times that females just can’t fathom what a male’s taiva is. Even a grandmother who has experienced the world just can’t understand how hard it is to guard against taiva. It’s just one of those things that they have to accept because the Rabbis said so. That being said, it makes sense that aries doesn’t fully understand the possible (more like probable) takala caused by owning a TV and the nisayon it is to only watch clean programs. She, as well as men who give in to their negiyos, will argue that it is OK to have as long as you only watch kosher shows. Furthermore, they have a more meikel view of what is called a “kosher” show.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorAt KFC they do chicken right. There used to be a Kosher one in Mivaseret. Too bad it’s gone. Good stuff.
Here’s some more food: burger, fries, hot dogs, pickles, (parve) ice cream, cholent, kugel, stella d’oro swiss fudge cookies! (No stella d’oro during aseres y’mei tshuva)
YW Moderator-42ModeratorWilliam Shakespeare?
YW Moderator-42ModeratorThere are those who are meikel on pas palter of companies according to the reason brought by yitayningwat even during aseres ymei tshuva. Though a yrei shamayim should be machmir. For what it’s worth, I think it is more important to have pas yisroel during aseres ymei tshuva then cholov yisrael.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorBBQ!
YW Moderator-42ModeratorThis is how I have understood this. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
Pas akum is bread baked by a private goy in his own house. This is assur according to everyone.
The bread that the OU gives hechsherim to is pas palter, bread baked commercially, which is muttar to eat. There is a chumra not to eat it, some people follow this chumra all the time, some follow it only on Shabbos and Yom Tov, but it is only a chumra, halachicly it is completely muttar.
August 21, 2011 2:53 pm at 2:53 pm in reply to: Kohanim not being able to go to exhibits with real dead people. #800202YW Moderator-42ModeratorRabbaim, Yidden who die in a hospital create tumah but it doesn’t necessarily spread through the entire building. There are many complicated halachos about tumas ohel. That being said, you are correct that kohanim generally shouldn’t work in a hospital setting in places like NY and Israel where there will inevitably be Jewish corpses over time. But there are exceptional cases where the part of the building he is working in does not get tumah because of the layout of the building, where in the building people dies, etc. Also, to work in a hospital in a neighborhood that has very few Jews or to work in an office building where there are no seriously ill patients is another story. (Of course, getting through medical school without being mitamei is another story as well)
YW Moderator-42ModeratorAlso, many who are against movies are not necessarily against old movies like Mary Poppins. The quality of movies and TV has gone way down in recent years to a point where they have become assur as a general klal. This wasn’t always the case. I know many fine B’nei Torah who grew up with Mary Poppins, Disney movies, etc. They don’t watch TV anymore but have no problem talking about the old movies they used to watch or even watching them again if the proper situation presents itself.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorYou said, “they’re the ones THAT approve it”. The proper English is “they’re the ones WHO approve it”. “Who” refers to people, “that” refers to non-people. The cow comment was a reference to the gum-chewing teenagers thread. (PETA would probably say that cows should be refered to as “who” as well)
YW Moderator-42ModeratorHaifagirl, the phrase, “somewhat resembling English” does not mean it should be perfect grammar, just that it should be readable without breaking one’s teeth.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorCoffee addict, we are the ones WHO approve it, unless you are calling us cows. (I don’t chew gum).
YW Moderator-42ModeratorFor what it’s worth I know many people, myself included, who are against movies but not secular books.

August 21, 2011 7:06 am at 7:06 am in reply to: They are taking ages to get back to us… I'm really nervous caus its my first o #800999YW Moderator-42ModeratorInterestingly, for “Location” you wrote “USA” you say you keep Shabbos so I guess you are not referring to the “United States of America”. Perhaps USA stands for “United Sailboats of Australia” or you are in some US territory Down Under.
August 21, 2011 7:01 am at 7:01 am in reply to: They are taking ages to get back to us… I'm really nervous caus its my first o #800997YW Moderator-42ModeratorCorrect, New South Wales, Australia. These things could be a bit off but I think the state/province is usually correct. Perhaps you are in New Zealand. Or some Island in the middle of some ocean near Australia. My next guess for why it is taking so long is that they are trying to determine whether or not you are a kangaroo
August 21, 2011 6:56 am at 6:56 am in reply to: They are taking ages to get back to us… I'm really nervous caus its my first o #800995YW Moderator-42ModeratorLet me guess, you come from a place that has a Chabad.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorThe OP isn’t suggesting that B’nei Torah should wear jeans and a t-shirt. He mentions “well dressed men”. Well dressed men nowadays (think CEO’s, lawyers, businessmen, etc) dress respectably but don’t wear hats. The president doesn’t wear a hat. Many MO people obviously hold of this as they will come to shul dressed respectably but without a hat. The question is why Yeshivish people still do this.
August 21, 2011 5:38 am at 5:38 am in reply to: They are taking ages to get back to us… I'm really nervous caus its my first o #800993YW Moderator-42ModeratorJust kidding. The real reason they are taking so long is because it takes a long time to get to Australia.
August 21, 2011 5:32 am at 5:32 am in reply to: They are taking ages to get back to us… I'm really nervous caus its my first o #800992YW Moderator-42ModeratorGood point. It seems your post was around 8:30am NY time. Maybe the other side is taking so long because they are trying to determine whether you keep half-Shabbos or three-quarters-Shabbos.

YW Moderator-42ModeratorI think you asked for Dr. Dovv awhile back so I decided to add in the “shtein” part and see what you thought. Seems like you disappeared after that and didn’t notice until now. Welcome back!
YW Moderator-42ModeratorHow about Fred Tzur-HaChalamish?
YW Moderator-42ModeratorHow about not eating the entire Yom Kippur?
YW Moderator-42ModeratorI agree with OVKTD about smoking. There is no reason people should suddenly start publicly smoking on Purim. If you want to extend wine to whiskey, etc that is one thing (although I don’t agree with that either) but smoking is inexcusable
YW Moderator-42Moderator“Lucy, I’m home.”
YW Moderator-42ModeratorOreos are 100% kosher and most are even parve, so too pringles. I eat these on Shabbos all the time.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorI love you,
