Are mods allowed to approve posts that were posted on Shabbos?

I was once somewhere on Shabbos and they were trying to get the baby to turn on the light that had gone out. The older sister saw what was going on and went and turned it on herself. We decided that even if we were technically allowed to use the baby, it shouldn’t be done if it will teach the older kid the wrong thing.

    Spinach-Ice Cream Pie

    Steam baby spinach.

    Saute onions.

    Add ice cream.

    Mix until it’s all melted.

Pour in a pie crust, top with whip cream and sprinkles.

    Put in freezer

I think it is a bigger hiddur to use the pre-made ones where there is less of a mess and they actually stay lit until the oil burns out. When people set up their own oil and wicks some will often not work well and will go out quickly. The fact that it burns nicely and is clean is a hiddur even if it is less “yegia” to set it up, isn’t it the lighting itself that is the mitzvah?

And in terms of yegia, technically there is more yegia in making a parnasa to afford the ready made ones though you might not notice it b’shaas maaseh while you are working (or swiping your father-in-law’s credit card)

But if someone wears a very nice blue and green striped dry cleaned shirt. And he’s tucked in looking like a mensch does he get the same respect on the street as someone whos wearing a white shirt, but is talking disgustingly and smoking?? we all know the one with the white shirt is one who is precived as the “Ben Torah” and the one with colored is considered fried… WHY???

Perhaps a miut of people actualy do think this way but in general I think “we all know” that it is nonsense. We all think that the others think this way when in actuality most people probably have seichel and don’t think this way. Just because everybody wears white shirts doesn’t mean that everybody thinks that those who don’t aren’t frum.

Marines don’t wear the same uniform as infantrymen of the army, pilots in the airforce or sailors in the navy. They are all members of the same armed forces under the leadership of the same commander in chief though.

Please be aware that despite the fact that our accusations against ayc were mostly false, there are IMPOSTERS/STALKERS/HACKERS out there who might be reading every word you say. They may have found your email address. Anyone who is contacted by someone outside the CR should report it immediately. We are taking this very seriously.

The verifications of highly suspicious accounts will continue, but this time quietly and privately. Some accounts have already been silently blocked and we have been in contact with the posters by email. By now everyone is probably aware of the stalking and harassing that have been occurring here, and it is time to put a stop to them. We would rather err on the side of caution than let innocents get hurt.

gefen “Wow! Scary! It is very disheartening to find this out.

Question, though. What’s to stop him from signing on with another name?”

Nothing. Joseph does it all the time, so nothing stopping ayc from doing the same. The point in publicizing it is because many have become very friendly with him and may have had outside contact so this goes as a double warning.

    1) Be aware that the “friends” you make online might not be your friends. Don’t be too trusting. There are people out there who are very good at social engineering – manipulation to get your trust.

    2) If you have had contact with him, beware that he might have malicious intent.

Jothar has been stressing this for weeks now and many people still don’t beleive it so this is a concrete example.

    =======

real-brisker: “42 – Was any harm done with his stalking? Was there any contact with ayc and any other members?”

At least 2 members have come forward claiming to have been contacted by hinm outside the CR, whether there was any actual harm done I cannot say.

Yes, the CR has to protect its trusting youth, but that can be done in a more positive way.

The CR is no longer the cosy, friendly place I discovered 18 months ago. That’s a shame.

It is a shame, I agree. I wish it wouldn’t be this way but unfortunately the “cozy friendly” environment can make it an easy target for stalkers. It is our job as mods to try to keep it fun yet safe which is not an easy balance.

ICOT, we have always enjoyed your posts. You have always been very helpful, informative, and funny. Although you may at times have done a little bit of “prying” it was nothing that would set off an alarm of “possible stalker”.

AYC’s case was a bit different. Although he was always a nice, helpful, thoughtful poster there were other things going on. I had hoped that this would turn out better but it is with a very broken and heavy heart that we must come to this conclusion.

The thing that tipped us off to him being a possible stalker was his vehement arguing against caution. It seemed to us, that he was deliberatly trying to quiet people like Jothar who were trying to warn the oilam about stalkers. We couldn’t understand how he could argue against it and the only explanation seemed to be that he himself was a stalker and was therefore trying to cover up for himself by saying that the dangers are exaggerated. If you recall, I called him Joseph during that argument which perhaps was going too far at the time. Believe me, it wasn’t just that one argument that caused me to make that accusation. Things had been slowly building up and there were a number of things pointing to it which I will not go into at the moment. After many posters pointed out all his good qualities I retracted and issued an apology. I had hoped that he was indeed not Joseph and not a stalker and that the CR would continue as usual.

Then the following exchange took place 2 weeks ago:

    Jothar:

Just to make it clear again:

I have nothing personal against anybody. I’m just trying to stop cybercrime. As a father, the death of Leiby kletzky hit me hard. So when I spotted what looked like cybercrime, I had to react. The innocent kids (and adults) of the CR deserve nothing less.

    AYC’s response:

And LEIBY a”h had Nothing to do with the internet. I AM a Kletzky. I’ve been affected by this summer in a very personal way and am still reeling from the loss. As well as other losses. (Btw, his great-grandfather whom he was named after used to say quite often that the only regret he has from surviving the war was that he was unable to die al kiddush Hashem…)

And I still believe that one should be cautious but not paranoid.

The hypervigilance is not healthy for anyone.

Am Yisrael Chai , who was already under suspicion previously, assured people that they need not fear giving away personal information because he/she was a Kletzky. He used the Kletzky name to try to manipulate people into agreeing with him. This is a known tactic in the world of manipulation and deceit.

When he claimed to be a Kletzky in order to back up his argument against caution, that was sort of the final straw. I didn’t notice that post at the time but another user did and took the initiative to look into it and then reported their findings to us. A Kletzky was shown AYC’s, post, and raised alarms.

AYC has been given a few days to establish his/her innocence once and for all. I had emailed him explaining the situation and asking for some sort of confirmation that he is who he claims to be. We were all hoping that he would acquit himself.

Sadly, he did not. Instead of cooperating, ayc did nothing but hurl invective and abuse at us for doing our jobs. It seems apparent that AYC was nothing but a fraud, as we suspected for a while. And we, like many of you, feel shocked, outraged, and violated. We trusted someone and our trust was abused.

The Coffee Room has lost its innocence and the cozy sense of trust it used to have, and for this we are all saddened. The rules of the Coffee Room state not to pry information yet in the course of conversations it is very hard not to divulge things here and there. Often we let things through such as ICOT’s examples above. Our goal is to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all. Unfortunately we live in a crazy world where that is not as easy as it sounds.

There are those out there who will, puzzlingly, disagree with this course of action. If you do not feel comfortable with the mods enforcing safety, feel free to leave. We have a job to do, and you are under no obligation to use this website. Thank you very much for your understanding.

And ayc, if you are who you claim to be and you out there reading this, please reply to my email so that we can have this resolved once and for all.

The reason this was done publicly was in case anyone has had private contact with ayc to be on their guard until this is clarified. If you have been contacted outside the CR by someone from the CR please be very careful and consider notifying the mods so that we can look into it. (Note, I am not saying that it was ayc who contacted you, perhaps it was someone else)

Furthermore, there has been a lot of bad press lately about people who hushed up investigations, leaving the public unaware of the danger in their midst. We felt it would be prudent to alert everyone of the possible danger while making it clear we are being as reasonable as possible.

And I, for the record remain fully in ayc’s camp as well. I am looking to verify his/her credentials and let the CR move on.

To AYC, The Kletzky family that was contacted is concerned about this. All you need to do is give me a way that I can confirm you with the Kletzky family. Otherwise, we have to assume you are a stalker. You must understand that we have the safety of our readers in mind, many of whom are minors. Again, I hope this is all a misunderstanding. I have always enjoyed your posts and would hate for this to have to end this way. I look forward to a successful resolution of this. Thank you very much.

    smartcookie:

I don’t get this. Who cares if AYC is related to kletzky or not? He’s not asking for donations in their name. He’s not offering personal info about them.

No, but he is using the name to defend his position. that is called manipulation, a common tactic of stalkers. I don’t mind if someone wants to say that we are being too paranoid, but AYC has basically been saying that there is nothing to worry about and that nobody will hurt you based on what you say in the CR. He then used the Kletzky name to back himself up and make peopel believe him. Perhaps he really is a Kletzky and is just being naive.

And to Avram in MD: +1

As Sam2 said, it’s not really a secular date, it is solar, the date we start IIRC is 365.25 days after the last year which is why the year before a secular leap year it is Dec 5, otherwise it is Dec 4th. After the year 2100 it will be Dec 5 and 6 because the secular calendar skips that leap year.

Am Yisrael Chai account LOCKED due to possible FRAUD

I would like to apologize in advance. I’m sure this is a misunderstanding and we’ll be laughing about it next week. However, the safety of our readers is of paramount importance.

AYC claimed above that she was a Kletzky.

    Be aware of stalkers/info stealers

One of our readers who knows the family contacted a Kletzky, who thought that this person sounded very suspicious. They are VERY concerned about identity theft and false claims. For now, due to the safety concerns of the CR, we understandably have blocked the account. AYC, please check your email and contact me for more info. Alternatively, please call the Kletzkys and touch base, and they will let us know to unlock the account.

I very much hope that this is a simple misunderstanding. In the meantime, however, I’m sure that you will understand why we must make this move. Thank you very much, and again my apologies.
