147, Why do you assume it’s an anti-computer event. I was under the impression that it is somewhat “pro-computers” – when used properly, and this event is supposed to teach us how to use it properly (filters, shmira, proper chinuch, etc).

OneOfMany, if you wear that to Citi Field on the 20th you will be arrested by the Secret Service.

Then you will go in front of the court with all the Mods as your jury and The Editor as the judge and we will decide what to do with you…

I did read the whole answer. I was just commenting on that one line. You call it an “indirect v’ahavta lirayacha”. Direct or not, there is a mitzvah of v’ahavta lirayacha and just as you wouldn’t want people using these indirect svaras against you, you shouldn’t use them against them.

Laughing and having fun is what the first few dates should be. Though it shouldn’t be done with another couple, that’s a lack of tznius. I think that’s called a double date.

Dr Pepper is a short, plump man with a wide smile from ear to ear.

squeak is average height, skinny, clean-shaven with glasses. He is always well dressed in a suit and tie (even while skydiving).

I also always imagined Oomis as Mrs Weasley.

apushutayid is tall with a full head of hair. Average weight. Glasses. No beard. Leather yarmulka.

The Goq looks like a goq!

OneOfMany has bubble gum pink hair and a large pigs nose with dark, twinkling eyes.

I imagine kapusta as a plump greenish ball with meat and rice coming out.

Popa is a 7 foot 3, 350 lb African American with a beautiful smile and big, bushy eyebrows who you don’t want to start up with on the basketball court.

“The stores have already purchased a certain amount of copies”

The decision on how many copies to buy was based on demand so if fewer people steal and more buy then they would have bought more.

For all we know aproudbyg is actually aproudstalker trying to get in touch with an unsuspecting online friend. We have very little way of knowing such things and therefore err on the side of caution and don’t give out personal info. That’s just the way it is in this crazy world we live in.

As for what to do, you can try to discuss whatever can be discussed publicly in the threads. Privately, you should try to find a friend and/or mentor to help you with the situation. If your friends have all dumped you because of it then they don’t sound like they were ever such great friends to begin with. Look for a Rabbi/Rebbitze or Kollel couple to be your mentors. There are plenty of caring people out there.

To anybody who haas friends going through similar situations: We live in a very confusing world and most people just need their friends to be their friends no matter what the situation might be. Do your best to continue being their friends and treat them the same way you used to (it is hard but try). Over time the “issues” will come up and you can speak about them, but don’t treat the person like this issue is their whole being: they are still regular people like they always were and would like to be treated that way.

No “inyan” really. Just that if you are going to stay up Saturday night, then you are going to want to sleep extra Shabbos afternoon so why not make up for that by staying up Friday night (learning or course)?

Somebody (I think squeak) once posted that there is a bit of Joseph in all of us, just as there is a bit of seriousness in popa, so that would mean that all the mods are part-Joseph.

Is anybody here staying up 3 nights in a row for Shavuos this year? I know people who stay up both nights so a good way to get a headstart on that is to stay up Friday night as well. Then good luck getting back to normal 🙂

Derzooger, icot can probably answer this better but I’ll try 🙂

If you have anti-virus software constantly watching your computer it is far less likely for you to be infected by simply openeing an email or web site. In order for a virus to infect you simply by opening an email, your email client has to run the code. I think that Gmail generally guards against this by not running any code in an email, they even block images which can sometimes contain malicious code (besides the obvious issues they may contain for a ben Torah). I would think that an email client like Outlook that is set to download the entire email is more likely to have such issues which is why you should have some sort of security software that scans emails as they come in (Gmail does this automatically for attachments though it’s not foolproof so don’t open suspicious attachments even if Gmail or any other program scanned it)

In terms of web sites, you often have to click some sort of confirmation for it to affect you. These confirmations are often hidden in innocent looking yes/no type popups or more tricky ways such as the one described in the above article.

I once saw a family tree linking him to Dovid HaMelech. The problem with it was that at some point it went through a female (his mother I think). So according to that tree that I saw, all of the Lubavitcher Rebbes were from Dovid Hamelech except him!
