YW Moderator-42Moderator
To Bowwow and 147, I meant that “some people” might feel uncomfortable with it and perhaps that is the type of people she associates with. I was not giving an opinion about whether it is right or wrong, just pointing out the facts.
Also, I was mostly referring to teenage boys, not shidduch-age.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorSome people might feel uncomfortable inviting single girls if they have single boys at home.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorHow about a set of Mishna Brura so he can start doing Mishna Brura Yomi.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorZeeskite, did Mommy start the daf? Maybe Goldentroll is your Mommy?
YW Moderator-42ModeratorI was there, sitting in Section EDITED, Row EDITED, Seat EDITED.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorI agree with Feif Un, unfortunately that was the one very sad part about this whole wonderful event. I think that had that not happened, had all the protesters come anyway and stood up in respect for a talmid chacham when he got up to speak, mashiach would have revealed himself right there during the siyum.
About the live stream, it was a great thing for those who could not attend in person, but on the other hand, I think that it takes away from the event because people feel they don’t have to come in person, they can just watch it online. One of the great things about this type of event is being together with almost 100,000 Jews in the same place, singing, dancing, hearing divrei chizzuk, and being mikadesh Shem Shamayim. Watching it online just doesn’t compare. It was for this reason that I thought it a good thing that the asifa wasn’t streamed online (although they didn’t stream it for other reasons, a discussion for another thread)
L’havdil, like any big football game, this event was sold out so many people couldn’t come for lack of room, so you couldn’t just “black it out” online. IY”H, 7.5 years from now we will all join together in the Beis Hamikdash in Yerushalayim for the next siyum and Hashem will perform an open miracle that millions of people will all have 4 amos of space.

YW Moderator-42ModeratorSorry Zeeskite, that was me and mod 80 in front of you. We couldn’t understand the speeches because they weren’t in Yiddish so we ended up shmoozing the whole time, next tine we’ll try to be quieter.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorI forgot the phone number:
(413) 497-0071
YW Moderator-42ModeratorYes. 1285 and 33 are both odd. I purposely picked odd numbers in order to illicit that response.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorYou are correct, there is no source. But svara would say that for somebody who has sunk to your level we have to make up these types of chumras.
(And in case you need clarification, yes, I was/am joking)
YW Moderator-42ModeratorThe Wolf, they let reshoim like you touch the sforim? I hope they dunk them in the mikvah 613 times to purify them your tumah after you touched them.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorI heard that they will decide Wednesday morning weather or not to push it off to Thursday.
Yes, I spelled that wrong on purpose 🙂
YW Moderator-42ModeratorGoq, does this mean that you are the mysterious mod-13?
YW Moderator-42Moderatormewho’s real name is Avraham Yitzchak Friedman, he lives at 1285 E33rd St between Ave J and K in Brooklyn.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorFor the record, I wasn’t proposing to “kick them out to make room for procrastinators”. I was saying that l’chatchila it should have been done that way.
YW Moderator-42Moderator“they could have rented out a whole nother stadium and put women there.”
Why bother? I was in Arthur Ashe for the Asifa with the other losers and should have stayed home and had it streamed in.
So here is another example of treating our women like second class citizens. You would have women who purchased tickets months ago kicked out in order to make room for the procrastinators who just woke up.
That wouldn’t be treating them like 2nd class citizens. Aderaba, this would be better for them since they can be more separated. Kol kvoda bas melech pnima. They should want it to be that way. Either way, this would be an official venue which would allow for more women to attend (and more men).
And who again is underwriting the cost of renting another stadium for several hundred or even thousand people who still need seats?
First of all, the would save money by not having to construct the mechitza. 2nd, they charge per seat.

YW Moderator-42ModeratorThe louder his clothes, the more chance they’ll see’im!
YW Moderator-42ModeratorI don’t take it literally but I assume that “hundreds of requests” means “tens of requests” and if there are tens of people who made requests on that site than there are probably tens of other people who would like to go but do not know of the site or didn’t bother submitting a request.
Mr/Mrs Shadchan, can you please clarify for us whether you were being literal when you said “hundreds”?
YW Moderator-42ModeratorPerhaps a mod was afraid of revealing personal information. I helped him/her out by EDITING menuchaEDITED‘s post. ^_^

YW Moderator-42ModeratorWow! The event is sold out and there are still “hundreds of requests”. maybe they should rent out the stadium next door.
I thought they should have done that from the start, they could have rented out a whole nother stadium and put women there. This way they could have had more participants and saved a lot of money on the mechitzah.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorSee Sha’ar ha-Tziyun 558:4, who is

YW Moderator-42ModeratorThings in this world cost money. Obviously the sponsors weren’t enough. People have to stop feeling so entitled and realize that pretty much everybody is in the same boat when it comes to lack of money.

YW Moderator-42ModeratorI Am 42 your M-d…
YW Moderator-42ModeratorI’ve actually had cases where somebody called me while I was learning and left a message saying “call me its urgent” and also sent me a text with the same message. After a few missed calls I checked the text and decided to go out of the beis medrash to call him, but first I took an extra minute to check his voicemail which didn’t give any helpful info and was just a waste of time. When I actually called back he had a simple question that could have been asked and answered in a text (whether the question was urgent is another matter). He could have saved both of us a lot of time and grief by simply putting his question in the text (especially considering that he sent me a text anyway). But people like this just don’t know how to communicate by text and have this need to speak out their question and hear my answer on a phone call.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorI actually get annoyed when people leave a message saying “hi, its plony, call me”. If would be helpful if they would say in the message what the call is about, it might even save time when I do call them back because I can have information ready for them. Also, if it is just “call me” or some other short message I would much rather that people text me than leave a message because sometimes listening to voicemail can be hard such as if I’m in a place where it’s hard to hear or where it would be rude to listen to a message (more rude than checking texts under the table)

YW Moderator-42ModeratorBen Levi, I assume a frum couple would go to frum therapists who understand frum marriages. And part of the reason that divorce rate of people going to therapy is so high is because only those with serious issues to begin with are going to therapy in the 1st place.

This year, it might be problematic to take that pill before the fast since that could be hachona on Shabbos for after.

YW Moderator-42ModeratorPopa, did you say that they’re handing out trophies and candy to wives at the siyum hashas? That sounds like a great idea, after all, it was their mesiras nefesh that helped their husbands finish shas.

“BTW Not all money given to tzdekahs goes to the tzadekah, I know someone who worked for a Call center and they got paid a percentage of how much they collected from the phone calls for tzdekah money”
So do you think the call centers should do it for free? They have to make a parnasa too and this is how they do it. It is not a tayna on them, nor is iyt a tayna on the tzedaka since that is part of their budget, by paying a percentage to callers they make more money so your money is going to a good cause either way. The tzedaka has bills to pay, whether it is to pay a Rebbe, pay a janitor, pay con-ed or pay a call center. The tzedaka has these bills to pay and your mitzvah is to give to them to help with those bills.
