Is there a bug rebbe?
YW Moderator-42ModeratorI clicked on this thread thinking it was about sports…
YW Moderator-42ModeratorAnyone who uses the term gypped is a retard.
(Come on pba, that was too easy)
YW Moderator-42ModeratorMod 42 will be eating challa this week…
What are “tranches”?
YW Moderator-42ModeratorMostly music and itunes do allow. This for some albums – usually for $0.99. In my experience mostly music usually does not have this option for newer albums
YW Moderator-42ModeratorFWIW, I have heard from someone who heard directly from R’ Elyashiv that copying software is only assur if it is owned by Jews or will cause a Chilul Hashem (the opposite of what R’ Hoffman stated in the article quoted above). He also said that although it may not be assur, there is no mitzvah to do it either.

YW Moderator-42ModeratorI said “some sort”. Apparently the “Jewish” music produced nowadays qualifies for that. Mattisyahu may or may not be included in that but I highly doubt he will be participating this year.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorYou hang out in good places with good chevra – then you come to the Coffee Room…
YW Moderator-42ModeratorI heard that Joseph proposed to his wife under many different names until he finally got a yes. ^_^
YW Moderator-42ModeratorTo answer your questions, I don’t have a ticket to sell but I might go if someone wants to sponsor. What I expect is some sort of Jewish music.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorWhen is it? Who is performing? Who endorses it? Who has banned it?
YW Moderator-42ModeratorGo Pats!
YW Moderator-42ModeratorIf you are basically “sharing” their ipod then I don’t see a problem. The same way you can copy onto your own ipod, you can copy onto theirs if it is for your own listening. This should be no different than putting your CD into your friend’s car when you are driving together.
Think of the music lomdishly as a physical CD and act accordingly. If you lend a physical CD to a friend you obviously can’t listen to it on your own CD player while he has it so if you put music on your friend’s ipod you shouldn’t listen to the CD on your own away from that friend.
I had a friend who didn’t have a computer but had CDs and an ipod. He put his CDs on my computer in order to sync his ipod. I kept his music separate from my own and only listened to it when he was there.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorThanks for the link squeak. As you can see jphone (who now goes by apashutayid) was there with Joseph in the beginning. Charliehall was in that thread as well. Also many other names which I haven’t seen in awhile. I wonder how many of those names are Joseph…
YW Moderator-42ModeratorYehudaTzvi, how are you feeling?
YW Moderator-42ModeratorI heard that it is good for your credit history to pay most of your credit card balance before the month closes so that you never have an official record of owing a lot of money.
To explain, if you spend $1000 between Jan 1 and Feb 1, you will get a bill for $1000 on Feb 1 that is due on March 1. As long as you pay that on time you are fine in terms of interest. But in terms of your credit history you will have a record of having owed $1000 so it’s better to pay all or most of that $1000 before the bill closes on Feb 1.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorWolf, do you wear a hat when it is cold? That would be a mitvah of ushmartem l’nafshoseichem so maybe it’s a davar kadosh and should not be worn in the bathroom ^_^
YW Moderator-42Moderator147, what is it harder – Va’era, Vayikra or Tazria-Metzorah?
January 13, 2013 7:40 pm at 7:40 pm in reply to: Tipping a delivery boy – Mandatory or Optional? #920337YW Moderator-42ModeratorIf tips these days are mandatory, it is still false advertisement to say FREE delivery.
No, that is not false advertisement. It is free altz the store. It is common knowledge that “delivery” means you should include a tip whether it is called free or not.
Unfortunately, this “common knowledge” is not so common among the few stereotypical cheap, “frum” Jews who seem to frequent this site under many screen names.
It is common knowledge among ehriche yidden who understand concepts such as derech eretz and hakaras hatov and that other people are people too, whether they are Jewish or not.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorIf you treat the credit card like a debit card (only spend what you have) and pay in full each month then credit cards are great. You build credit, gain points, etc. Nowadays you can check your accounts online so you can always know what you owe and you can even pay multiple times per month if that helps you keep better cheshbon of what you really have available.
I keep track of all my spending – bank accounts and credit cards – in a spreadsheet. I have a line in the checking account sheet that is linked to the total owed from the credit card sheet so the bottom line amount available in the bank reflects money owed to the credit card. So I always know what I have available and can always go back and see where all the money went.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorI only wear my tie for davening on shabbos, does that make it holy? What if I also wear it for mincha, is it now a tashmishei aveira?
YW Moderator-42ModeratorMaybe she’s not engaged yet because she hasn’t been set up with WIY. Is she a learner/earner? 🙂
Also, dus ur sis no how to spel???? U certanly x!!!!
YW Moderator-42ModeratorThe poster currently known as apashutayid I believe.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorIt’s called sawyouatsinai, jwed …
YW Moderator-42ModeratorPasture for your animal = gasoline. We had this crisis recently…
YW Moderator-42ModeratorThen there are those public towels that everyone shares at some sinks in Israel…
YW Moderator-42ModeratorICOT, many restrooms nowadays (including in some yeshivos) have paper towel dispensers that work with a sensor. The problem is you can’t use them on Shabbos.
On a related note, I once saw a bathroom in a fancy place that had toilet seat covers that cover the entire seat and are replaced by pushing a button that makes it roll away like a conveyor belt and be replaced with a new clean one. Now we just need those in all public bathrooms with sensors rather than buttons…
YW Moderator-42ModeratorColumbia charges less – but has many more applicants.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorThat’s supposed to be a mixture of ^_^ and :-). Or it’s a guy with a kippa and hat.
YW Moderator-42Moderator🙂
YW Moderator-42ModeratorHow about Mesushelach? Or for that matter – Eliyahu Hanavi and Serach.
Also, I think it is brought down that Chira who helped Shlomo build the Beis hamikdash was the same Chira who was a friend of Shlomo’s ancestor Yehuda.
The passuk in Tehillim says 70-80 years. The mishna is Pirkei Avos lists 90 as already very old.
People have lived longer than 120 though most “normal, healthy” people nowadays don’t make it to 100.
I’m not sure where the idea that 120 is the ideal comes from but it seems to be the mesora. I assume it has something to do with Moshe Rabeinu. Either way, a bracha even from a hedyot is not to be taken lightly so when you hear somebody say “ad meah v’esrim” you should answer Amen and have kavana that the bracha should be chal. Also, when giving this bracha to someone you should have in mind that they should not only live to 120, but also have the strength that Moshe Rabbeinu had.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorOnly in the CR can a happy birthday thread turn into a math discussion.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorThe first step to be a lamdan is to be an Anav like me.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorIf at first you don’t succeed, give up and buy an elephant.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorSpeaking of ha’adoma corn, what do you get when an elephant steps on your corn?
Ground corn.
YW Moderator-42ModeratorThat ‘snot funny.
Yes dash, I saw your message and dashed right by it. Too many more important things to snort through. Perhaps I’ll answer you one of these weeks 🙂
YW Moderator-42ModeratorMods have to snort through all of the ridiculous stuff that gets posted here…
YW Moderator-42ModeratorAnything unrelated to elephants is irrelephant

YW Moderator-42ModeratorWolf, it’s not nice to publicize that your daughter weighs more than 110 lbs, it could make her part if the shidduch crisis.
