There is a mitzvah of simchas yom tov with basar. If you want to be makayeim milchigs, have that in beginning of the meal, then (after the cheesecake mid-meal dessert) change over to fleishigs, bring out a 2nd challa l’zecher the shtei halechem, and then have meat.

(I am well aware that many people have exclusively dairy meals on shavuos. This is especially helpful if you want to have milk with your coffee. I’m just being weird in an attempt to post a 147-like post)

How is this a problem? Aren’t you actually saving the airline money by not taking the last leg because they now have less weight on the plane?

(I am not endorsing all the “shtick” that Dan does but this particular one sounds fine to me)

147, How can you eat cheeesecake while learning Shavuos night? Unless you are in the Southern Hemisphere where the learning is longer than 6 hours. Or perhaps you are yekke and only wait 3.

(I will assume you aren’t eating in the Beis Medrash which would obviously be another problem)

I always thought of YWN as an alternative to the secular news sites – a site that reports news in a way that Bnei Torah can read and skips over the inappropriate and lashon-hora filled stories. Someone who reads YWN should have no need to read other news outlets as all the important stories are here for them in a Kosher way.

I see nothing wrong with the news posted here recently. Some of the comments and CR discussions on the other hand…

Charliehall, you must be using the paid version or using adblockplus. The ads on Yahoo are terrible. Even with all that, when one logs out of Yahoo mail it takes you to their home page which almost always has inappropriate pictures and/or headlines.

On a more serious note, there is an inyan not to walk around in socks due to it being derech aveilus. I have not heard that this only applies to someone with both parents living as was mentioned above (lo shomati ana raaya but I thought I’d mention that as I can hear a svara against it).

Some of them send reminders during the day too just in case you missed at night. Getting all the multiple reminders helps to remind me what day it is.

Set your router to use openDNS and then use that as a filter, it can block categories and then blacklist/whitelist specific sites.

Of course this won’t help if the iDevice is taken to another wifi network. If you really want full control then block the app store and Safari and use k9 browser. Of course you can just go to your “shomer” every time you want to access the app store and have it temporarily enabled. Annoying true, but if that is the control you want, you can’t have your cake and eat it too.
