November 12, 2019 2:11 pm at 2:11 pm in reply to: After millions spent on promotion why are 30% of seats unsold? #1799886yungerman123ParticipantThis is a once in almost-8-years event and the tickets, even the pricey ones, are being sold in a venue that regularly charges more than that for sporting events and concerts. When events like the superbowl or world series are held there and people pay thousands for seats, nobody bats an eye. The Agudah is not getting rich off of this event. I am in Eretz Yisroel, and have nothing to do with the Agudah in America, but it is clear that much has gone into organizing this event and for a once in a decade experience to gather to hear Hadran Alach Talmud Bavli in attendance with over 100,000 yidden, $100 or even $600 sounds like an OK deal.

April 17, 2018 6:01 pm at 6:01 pm in reply to: Getting a ride with someone from the opposite gender #1507953yungerman123ParticipantRegular dinim of yichud apply. R’ Moshe z”l held that a car in particular lends itself to easily transgressing the issur of yichud. Unmarried boys and girls should be particularly machmir. I remember as a bachur out-of-town refusing on many occasions to drive single girls on my way to shacharis, as it was before sunrise. On several occasions, I did give a girl a ride on erev shabbos, only to her destination in the city on busy streets, and she sat in the back. And it still isnt so comfortable.

There is a decent place in Pardes Chana (near Hadera) for American boys, most of whose families made aliya late and have difficulty integrating. Boys are from yeshivish homes mostly but are not so yeshivish themselves i think.
August 18, 2017 6:58 am at 6:58 am in reply to: What’s a girl to do if her father is not a Talmid Chacham? #1341666yungerman123ParticipantIf you mean by this that there is a concern that a ben Torah needs to marry someone who is a “bas Talmid Chacham”, Reb Moshe z”l has a famous teshuva regarding this and similar issues and he states clearly that a girl can be a “bas Talmid Chacham” regardless of her father’s status! If she was raised not in a home of Torah but conducts herself with tznius and is machshiv Torah and really works on herself, she can be zocheh to this and to marry a proper ben Torah.

May 30, 2016 10:22 am at 10:22 am in reply to: Is the Outrage Over The Killing of Cecil the Lion Justified? #1154210yungerman123ParticipantAre people nuts? There is no issur for a goy to kill an animal for sport. Nor is there such an issur even for a Jew, but the Noda B’Yehuda has a famous teshuva where he says that it is not a Jewish thing to do. But if the intent is killing it, it is not even tzaar baalei chaim. The worst offense of the whole thing was perhaps the gezel from their tourism industry, as those lions generate millions in tourism. As a goy, one could suggest that he is in fact chayav misa for gezel, as one of the 7 mitzvos bnei Noach, but the death threats are coming for the wrong reason I suppose.

yungerman123ParticipantWomen like flowers because they are a gift of something which basically has no intrinsic value to her husband and is therefore a gesture of his love for her. Since flowers have no use, they are purely and completely a gift of love. Clothing or a new dish are something he has to provide and it has a purpose, but flowers in their non-functionality can only be a token of love or appreciation.
