Smartcookie: I am actually trying to lead him somewhere and confirm a suspicion I have before saying anything. Do I believe him? It is possible to sit and take note of every possible poster but you gotta be nuts to do that. What can he do with this info? I honestly can’t think of anything really worth anything, kind of like a kid who loves playing with empty bottles. So he has info, nu.

Op stands for original poster (I think) though if you are joseph, you should know that already. You have been around for quite some time.

Irene just made landfall in new jersey. My sister lives there. New york, RI, and MA are next (probably in that order if not all at the same time). I have family and close friends in all of these locations. I am not at home as far rockaway (and lawrence) were officially evacuated (I went to brooklyn for shabbos and am still there now). I worry for myself not so much as I am together with other people. I worry more for my parents and younger sister in boston.

Because she didn’t or doesn’t? You can’t make a generalization off of one time. Whether she was right or not in dressing the way she did doesn’t allow for a generalization.

Is there a shadchan involved? Maybe speak to the shadchan and see if they can shed light and possibly give a reason? Maybe speak to someone the girl and you know that can act as an uninvolved outside observer?

I think hurricane is getting mistaken for tornado. Hurricane is as was said basically just a huge rainstorm (stronger winds too) and the tornado is what brings you to Oz.

I spent ten hours straight (no breaks) getting cars, vans, jeeps, and even a truck unstuck and out. That was just a section of 18th ave (from ocean parkway to coney island). Wow talk about memories. The soreness didn’t go away for a few days.

Coming from a (relatively) parallel situation, (beis medrash), I would say consider those things you feel are most important to you in hashkafot, frumkeit, etc, and see if seminary is something that would further those goals or not.

Ask her details about her work, what she does, ask her to explain aspects you don’t understand, try to bring in some of your own life experiences and mix it into the discussion. I have personally found with kiruv that just having a ‘normal’ conversation can be very effective. At the same time though, if she is interested in knowledge and the like, you could discuss torah and mitzvos with their background along with what they mean.

    Was I clear enough?

hold up a second. it was assault enough (verbal abuse), i could have had him arrested for what he did. number two, i wouldn’t have exactly recommended him to physically start up with me for two reasons, one he would have gotten more hurt than me (i have training in the martial arts), and two not only would i have had him arrested, i would have sued him. so either way he had more to loose. i posted this not because i felt traumatized or the like but rather sickened.

I have posted before about doing things in a nice way and I even asked nicely and said please with a *your choice of fruit* on top 🙁 I know certain things bother people but can we please correct in a constructive manner? Correcting or educating in an attacking or afronting manner, can only do damage to a persons self esteem and likely won’t help them correct the issue properly. Please, I again ask people, if you must correct, do it nicely

    Thanks

WIY: unfortunately no i am not joking.

some goy called me aside as i was walking home from the train and asked if i was jewish. being in kiruv, i thought the person had a question about judiaism so i stopped and said yes i am jewish. he then asked so you chopped up the kid? before i could even respond (or for that matter formulate one), he started yelling at me to get away from him and threatening me if i didn’t (which for that alone i could have had him arrested). unbelievable the insanity of some people nowadays. what is this world coming to?

Just a point on the grammar issue which looks like it is about to get out of hand. I don’t think it is the grammar per se that is bothering people, but rather the difficulty some people are having with communicating/understanding posts. Now that I said my piece, I will leave it up to everyone else whether or not to let things get blown out of proportion. For that matter, being that this is the rant thread, I will post a rant to be yotzei. Agreed that some things seem to get overdone or taken out of proportion, but why can’t we, instead of pointlessly arguing, instead try to work with each other? Why can’t we try and see their viewpoint and perspective or try and see their point in a perspective that would make more sense to us if you must? For example, the grammar issue. Yes, this isn’t english class but maybe it isn’t that people are grammar freaks, rather they just want to be able to have clear and understandable communication. This goes for both sides. Perhaps instead of making a big issue on the incorrect grammar, one should nicely ask the person to explain themselves. ‘Silly’ things like common or lazy misspells, maybe should just be ignored so long as the message still makes sense. Please, let us work with each other? Pretty please? With a *insert fruit item of desire here* on top?

    Thank you

    😀 Zuberman! 😀
