Call the shadchan on their misinformation is what I would say is the first step. Second step is to think do these issues really bother you that much?

Thanks to whoever bumped this up. Although I may not myself have diabetes, I have learned quite a bit about it and have found that mostly the issue people have is ignorance (they don’t know much if anything about diabetes). I personally have no issues with a person who has diabetes (as long as they are ehrilich and menchlich :D) and would date/marry someone who does.

Now that I have found this thread, I plan to be here as a listening ear and offer of support as much as I can

Cofeefan: I’ll give you the “list” in a second but how would you pull off setting us up? I mean, I am not that hard to find …

These “lists” are not in any particular order

    I am:

    -19

-a handyman specializing in carpentry and design

-one who appreciates and enjoys learning

    -family oriented

    -open minded

*these next ones are from others’ descriptions*

    -mature

    -responsible

    -capable

    -personable

    -fun/enjoyable

    -caring

    -helpful

    -kind

    What I am looking for:

-someone who my description would complement.

-someone my age though she can be older just not by too much

    How was that?

I have a feeling that this conversation should be moved over to the what are you looking for thread …

Cofeefan: go ahead if you can! No joke especially if this means that they will be getting a shidduch and no I don’t mean it in the way of a sympathy date. I am serious that there is no good reason why I shouldn’t date/marry such a girl

There is a reason rav zeira wouldn’t go back the next year and it isn’t such a simple gemarrah and there is a lot of explanations and such going on there. Sorry even if it would be a proof it wouldn’t be usable.

Popa: name me at least three shitos within the shita that you should drink wine (which is what I am talking about) that say you should get totally slammed

I would have no problem dating someone with diabetes. Happens to be I know quite a bit about it and how to take care of someone who has it if chas v’shalom they would need it. I have heard that there is a connection between childbearing and diabetes in that one can develop diabetes during/after childbirth (one of my sisters did)

The point is NOT to get drunk, the point is to loosen your inhibitions.

When my father drinks he says a mymer which he wrote himself. When I drink I lose my inhibitions of getting involved in torah discussions. I now reiterate that the point is NOT to get drunk in the sense of getting slammed/stoned/or whatever other synonymous term you would like to use. One is supposed to drink more than what they are used to, to the point that they will feel the effects of the wine, loosening inhibition but not to the point of total inebriation. People unfortunately have taken the extreme in getting drunk to the point that one is supposed to drink to oblivion and this is not proper at all. If one loses control (I have seen quite a few wives who left by the purim seuda in yeshivah with looks of fear in their eyes because they never now what will happen) in that he doesn’t know what he is doing then he has gone too far.

No it is an exciting leap. Though after a while the newness wears off and you settle into it. I do opine that the leap/excitedness has to do more with switching out of high school rather than turning 18, but yes, turning 18 is an exciting period in and of itself also (I am 19 and graduated high school at 16 turning 17 hence my opinion).

Congratulations (yeah I know a bit early) and I am sure you will do great!

Goq: So then why does this not apply to kapusta and wolfish? Because they have been doing it forever? (no offense to you guys) For your information that is not why I started this thread nor is it why I have a signature. I started the thread and have a signature because I thought it would be fun, and not for people to remember my posts, for frankly I don’t care whether they do or not. You are assuming that is why we have signatures, because we want people to remember our posts. Who’s says? Why are you jumping to conclusions?

For this discussion I will be considerate of you (I really don’t know why) and leave out my signature

I did verify it and I purposely wrote it in such a way that people wouldn’t know who it is (even if you know who I am and which high school I went to you won’t know which rabbi it is)

Then again I did write it at close to four in the morning when I was not all there due to being fully distraught (now that I slept a little though it still hurts I am more calm and in control)

If you really feel it would be such a problem I can ask the mods to remove it. I just had to let out some of the pain

I really am not interested in putting up with much unless I have to. On top of all this, I missed a phone appointment with a co-organizer and it isn’t very easy to reach them and we are supposed to be putting something together for this shabbos (which I am looking forward to).

Ok someone asked for youngsters to get in on all this. I am 19 years old and have seen quite a bit of what has been mentioned here but never really got the full experience. I remember rotary phones (my grandmother had one and sadly enough when it finally died she couldn’t get another one as they had ceased to exist). My parents still have records and a record player (all speeds). I remember when there were no proper computers, just word processors (and the most you could do on it was hit a few keys and get to see something dance on the screen). Forget computers, I remember type writers. I remember when tapes were as much of a rage as MP4s are now (I missed the reel-to-reel days and never saw one). I remember VHs instead of DVDs.

That is all I have for now but thanks for the memories those were some good times (and it helps me remember my grandmother who I sorely miss (she passed away right before my 19th birthday almost 4 months ago)
