JosephParticipant
This is all designed by Hashem to remind Yidden that EVERYTHING we ever did in our lives has been recorded; and will be replayed to us after 120.
JosephParticipantHas anyone noticed that most of the worst pandemics over the last half century originated in China or around that part of the world?
JosephParticipantYankel and Yanky are out with Yaakov in?
April 7, 2020 1:03 am at 1:03 am in reply to: CORONAVIRUS – CHECK OXYGEN LEVELS — REGARDLESS OF HOW THEY ARE BREATHING! #1847872JosephParticipantTY
JosephParticipantYseribus: As was later learned retrospectively (as much of COVID-19 is, since it isn’t well understood yet even by the best doctors and new medical information about the desease is learned daily), the vast majority of those with COVID symptoms indeed have the desease not are undiagnosed of it, due to a great shortage of test kits. Indeed, the official count of people with COVID vastly undercounts the real number, which is multiples of the official count.
JosephParticipantbk613: Dr. Z has a very small sample size; so it is very plausible for him to have a 100% success rate.
JosephParticipantModerator, can you move this thread to DECAFFEINATED? Thank you!
JosephParticipantAccording to virtually all rabbonim, even those that during other years are meikel and permit mishing, this year it is strongly prohibited to mish.
On the other hand, according to some poskim, due to the special situation this year, it may be permissible to eat outside (non homemade) prepared food this year, assuming it carries a highly reliable hechsher for Pesach.
April 2, 2020 7:56 pm at 7:56 pm in reply to: Why do so many continue to ignore restrictions on gatherings and travel #1846490JosephParticipantI would posit there’s greater compliance among frum Yidden than among overall society.
JosephParticipantI second the motion.
JosephParticipantCheck Rabbi Blumenkrantz’s Pesach book.
April 2, 2020 5:03 pm at 5:03 pm in reply to: Why do so many continue to ignore restrictions on gatherings and travel #1846405JosephParticipantGHD: Why do you assume your premise is correct? I believe there’s widespread compliance, perhaps in the area of 99% of the frum populace, with the guidelines for the terrible crisis.
April 2, 2020 8:14 am at 8:14 am in reply to: How Corona Taught Klal Yisroel to Make Small Simchas #1846095JosephParticipantThe Gedolim are now making this point:
JosephParticipantThere’s a hook on the phone, if you’re using a plain old telephone service, that when you put the phone on it it’ll hang up the call. Alternatively, the phone may have a FLASH button that if pressed will disconnect the phone.
If using a mobile phone simply hit the END button.
JosephParticipantFor years already many hospitals and doctors have freely and actively been intentionally letting patients die rather than attempt to save their lives, even though they potentially could save their lives, when the doctor decided that a patient’s life isn’t worth living.
The above has been true even when there have been plenty of medical resources without any shortages.
JosephParticipantThanks for sharing.
March 31, 2020 9:23 am at 9:23 am in reply to: We need a Pinchas to take action to stop the magefah!! #1845179JosephParticipantThere are people today who can advise us the reason why Hashem sent this mageifa.
JosephParticipantsqueak: While neither is justifiable, the taaveh now is different than the yetzer horah to learn on T”B. In the latter case we’re all trained and acquainted with the halacha; in the present (thankfully) unusual circumstances, we are much less (if at all) acquainted on the proper way to react and change to an (for us) unprecedented halachic course.
JosephParticipantOhhMyyGoosh, Mammele… Say it ain’t so! You gotta be kiddin’.
JosephParticipantWolf: May this IY”H be the right one.

March 29, 2020 4:33 pm at 4:33 pm in reply to: Is America doing enough to deal with coronavirus? #1844385JosephParticipantReb Eliezer, there’s no doubt that both China and Iran are lying about their numbers by many magnitudes.
March 29, 2020 4:33 pm at 4:33 pm in reply to: China’s “Manufactured” virus succeeded Big-Time #1844378JosephParticipantDr. Roberts is a reasonable, educated and intelligent man by all descriptions.
March 29, 2020 1:03 pm at 1:03 pm in reply to: Is America doing enough to deal with coronavirus? #1844255JosephParticipantAmerica is a bigger country.
China and Iran have much higher numbers than they’re officially reporting.
March 27, 2020 6:28 pm at 6:28 pm in reply to: China’s “Manufactured” virus succeeded Big-Time #1843958JosephParticipantDr. Richard Roberts, a pharmaceutical executive, among other highly intelligent and educated men, have expressed a belief that there’s a strong possibility that the novel coronavirus was designed as a biological agent by a foreign government or entity that may have escaped their laboratory unintentionally.
JosephParticipantThe Zoom so-called heter was a farce and ludicrous.
March 27, 2020 1:25 pm at 1:25 pm in reply to: How Corona Taught Klal Yisroel to Make Small Simchas #1843777JosephParticipantI noticed in recent days that my point in the OP here is starting to pick up steam and being advocated for in Klal Yisroel.
JosephParticipantWolf, when Beis Din set the chodesh on a month by month basis rather than the current calendrical cycle, they still knew early enough when it would be a leap year that celebrating Purim during two separate months didn’t happen, as the leap year was declared in the beginning of Adar.
If I’m not mistaken. (It’s happened.)
Also remember that Purim only began during the period between the two Beis Hamikdash’s. I mention this since the procedure for declaring leap years changed in that interval.
March 25, 2020 3:51 pm at 3:51 pm in reply to: Corona-Safe Chol Hamoed Activities for Children #1843068JosephParticipantWould a family outing to Bear Mountain be a corono-safe visit considering its great outdoors permitting sufficient social-distancing?
March 25, 2020 12:25 pm at 12:25 pm in reply to: Corona-Safe Chol Hamoed Activities for Children #1842903JosephParticipantMammele: According to Gov. Cuomo, New York City will be at its worst point in the virus about during the time of Chol Hamoed.
Also, what leads you to believe that once someone had the virus they’re immune to getting it a second time?
JosephParticipantCA, why?
You didn’t justify or explain your answer.
JosephParticipantChas V’Shalom should anyone get the wrong idea into their head that davening without a Minyan is preferable.
JosephParticipantDoes a b’chor born via Cesarian Section have to have a Siyum or fast?
JosephParticipantMaybe use a car service or Uber to get it?
JosephParticipantI’m surprised that any intelligent person would seriously consider or even answer this “idea”.
JosephParticipantCTL, yet you lose the privileges of being a b’chor.
JosephParticipantFor those b’chors unable to attend a Siyum on Erev Pesach, they will have a fast day. A Siyum isn’t obligatory for us. And it isn’t like they lack experience with fasting.
So no need for that “Yikes” smiley. Rather it should be a happy one: 😁
JosephParticipantWe’re making an illicit Siyum.
Just ten of us. So we’re within current regulations. And maintaining a six-foot distance.
JosephParticipantThey OP’s list is biased in favor of relatively more recent releases.
JosephParticipantUbiquitin: Again, I’ve only asked questions; I’ve at no point implied anyone’s overreacting.
JosephParticipantThere’s no problem going to someone’s house during these difficult times. As such there’s no problem going to your Rov’s house and selling it in person just like you do every other year. There needn’t be 10+ people in the house with the Rov. Everyone can come at a different time; even by appointment.
per the guidelines this means not crossing his threshold
JosephParticipantUbiq: Formulating what opinion? I’ve expressed none whatsoever.
What leads you to believe the current coronavirus will spread over a short period of time rather over a longer period more akin to the seasonal flu?
And there’s been 20,000 flu deaths so far this year in the United States. So as of now approximately 20,001 coronavirus deaths would be more than the number of flu deaths, to answer your last question.
Mammele: The governor of California claimed tonight in a letter to the Federal government that 55% of Californians, which means over 25 million people in California alone, will have this virus within eight weeks from today.
JosephParticipantGHD: China, like Iran but unlike Italy, is likely grossly lying in their published numbers of victims of this virus in their country.
JosephParticipantubiquitin: Are you saying that if one year there were 50% more seasonal flu hospitalizations that normally that the US hospital system world collapse?
If not, if there are 50% as many coronavirus hospitalizations, i.e. 175,000 coronavirus hospitalizations, as there are flu hospitalizations (350,000 so far this season), then the US hospital system should be able to manage them.
JosephParticipantMilhouse: Just because some have been doing it doesn’t indicate all agree it is acceptable.
March 19, 2020 7:10 pm at 7:10 pm in reply to: How Corona Taught Klal Yisroel to Make Small Simchas #1841367JosephParticipantAJ: Wealth is a necessity? Our Zeidas and Bubbes were happier than we are despite their limited material resources.
JosephParticipantIf this year’s seasonal flu so far caused 350,000 hospitalizations and 20,000 deaths, and the hospital system in the United States manages flu patients quite well, why would even an equal number of coronavirus patients being hospitalized be unmanageable?
Coronavirus also is anticipated to become a seasonal virus.
March 19, 2020 3:34 pm at 3:34 pm in reply to: How Corona Taught Klal Yisroel to Make Small Simchas #1841319JosephParticipantRey M: What’s the issue — will a smaller chasuna with 50 people make the first 50 years of marriage be worse off than if the wedding had 400 people?
JosephParticipantMachlokes.
JosephParticipantDr. Bsharg: Who should bathe the baby if we can’t touch anyone?
