Are you moichel me for jesting with you?
JosephParticipantWhere’s eclipse (or Watermelon)? Monday is her big day!
JosephParticipantTLIK: Chasidishe yeshivos or Litvishe yeshivos? There’s a huge difference. You’re correct that the Chasidishe yeshivos aren’t losing their student population in Brooklyn, but the Litvishe chadorim/mesivtas/kollelim very much are. (And from my non-authoritative understanding this is also being experienced by out-of-town Litvishe yeshivos/mesivtas.)
There is unquestionably a very notable migration of newly married couples from all over Litvishe America (as well as to a much lesser extent from outside our borders) to Lakewood and its environs, as well as a slightly less numeric, but also a notable one, of somewhat older couples with yeshiva aged children moving to Lakewood from New York and from out of town. But it is the newly marrieds coming to Lakewood from elsewhere that are the greatest contributers of the dropping Yeshiva population elsewhere where they’d of naturally otherwise had stayed and raised their young and growing families if not for moving as a couple to Lakewood to stay in Kollel there or to purchase affordable housing there (compared to unaffordable housing in Brooklyn and other large metro areas).

August 20, 2017 8:50 pm at 8:50 pm in reply to: Let’s just agree to mythologize American history #1343201JosephParticipantIf the gentile seller owns the slave, why could he not sell him to a Jew (consent or otherwise)?
JosephParticipantLakewood is k’h growing by leaps and bounds every single year with the arrival of more and more Yidden from outside moving to Lakewood each year. Thus, Lakewood needs more seats for school children every year. A side effect of this dynamic is that schools outside of Lakewood are shrinking as a result of young couples and families moving out to Lakewood.
People have a tendency to view, rightfully or otherwise, the more established and older schools as more successful than the newer ones. And a school moving into town from another town is viewed, where they moved, as a newer school to those unfamiliar with the school. It takes them some years to become established and better known locally.
August 20, 2017 5:49 pm at 5:49 pm in reply to: “Britain has a problem with British Pakistani men…” #1343159JosephParticipantDidn’t we learn the ingrained habits of each nationality when they rejected the Torah? Edom (descending from Eisev) murders; the nations from Yishmael steal, etcetera.

There’s a lot of ineffective treatment in the modern world of psychology that enjoys widespread medical acceptance and usage.
August 20, 2017 3:53 pm at 3:53 pm in reply to: Best Minyan for a modern orthodox jew in Lakewood Jackson Brick area?? #1343128JosephParticipantGHadorah, that was the goyishe “minhag”, certainly not the yiddishe minhag.
JosephParticipantShould we wear a white kittel when walking home from Shul every Friday night for the Shabbos seuda?
JosephParticipantI don’t set standards; “my” standards are the Torah’s standards. Yes, using secular nomenclature what I indicated only applies to some of them. Though, those some is whom I’m referring to. That being said, nevertheless, even the others who aren’t chayiv that are still considered reshoyim according to the Torah and are chayiv lesser punishments. Come to think of it, for gentiles they’re all chayiv misa since (even where those Jews that aren’t chayiv for that) gentiles are in the case of violating any of the Sheva Mitzvos — and any iteration violates their fourth mitzvah/obligation.

August 20, 2017 2:59 pm at 2:59 pm in reply to: Best Minyan for a modern orthodox jew in Lakewood Jackson Brick area?? #1343096JosephParticipantOn Shabbos. During the week I think you’ll find people in blue (etc.) shirts as well.
JosephParticipantI thought it was mandatory.
JosephParticipantThe city loves citizens like you. Because you increase city revenues when you pay your sanitation summons for not complying with this.
And believe you me, those sanitation inspectors are coming to a garbage can near you.
JosephParticipantThey’re chayiv misa.
JosephParticipantRY23, I meant to ban them (Confederate flags and statues) on all public properties (federal, state and local — including legislatures and parks), not to ban them on private property or persons. The government is entitled to choose to not host statues of Robert Lee, King George III, Stonewall Jackson, Mussolini or Stalin as well as to choose not to host (or pictures on State flags) the flags of the Confederacy or Mexico.
JosephParticipantMany top Nazi leaders were toeiva people.

Even all things being equal, there’s absolutely no reason for Yidden to surrender to the political zeitgeist to prove ourselves to the goyim or to the feminists (Jewish or gentile).
Secondly, even were one inclined to surrender to said political zeitgeist and the loudmouths, as I elucidated above there’s very good halachic/hashkafic reasons to put men before women rather than vice versa. (Otherwise you could just as well argue against separating the seating on the bus in the first place.)

August 20, 2017 11:34 am at 11:34 am in reply to: Eclipse! Freaking out about driving during the eclipse. #1342859JosephParticipantWhat time is the eclipse happening in New York?
JosephParticipantDid Benedict Arnold switch sides or was he a secret British spy from the beginning?
August 20, 2017 8:14 am at 8:14 am in reply to: Chareidim overwhelmingly voted for Trump, are you satisfied? Any optimism? #1342812JosephParticipantAnd of the 24% of the vote Clinton received in Lakewood, it can fairly be assumed a large majority came from the non-Jewish voters in Lakewood — who are the Clinton voting demographic. (In fact, it is about the same percentage of non-Jews/non-Orthodox living in Lakewood.)
So the Orthodox vote for Donald Trump is likely in the upper 90s (95+%) percentage points.
August 20, 2017 1:35 am at 1:35 am in reply to: Chareidim overwhelmingly voted for Trump, are you satisfied? Any optimism? #1342797JosephParticipantIn Lakewood, Donald Trump outpolled Hillary Clinton 18,139 to 5,927 – in percentage of votes won, it was 74.3 to 24.3, his biggest margin in the state among towns with populations greater than 10,000. (Overall, Clinton won New Jersey by 13 percentage points.)
JosephParticipantBring down all those statues of the traitors and ban them as well as the Confederate flag.
JosephParticipantYes, indeed.
August 19, 2017 11:58 pm at 11:58 pm in reply to: Best Minyan for a modern orthodox jew in Lakewood Jackson Brick area?? #1342779JosephParticipant“Maybe I should just put on a hat?”
Not a bad idea! Putting on a hat for davening in Shul is respectful when speaking to the King of Kings.
And isn’t even that hard!
August 19, 2017 11:35 pm at 11:35 pm in reply to: Chareidim overwhelmingly voted for Trump, are you satisfied? Any optimism? #1342763JosephParticipantIf you look at Orthodox majority voting districts in presidential elections, not just 2016 but any presidential election in the last 30 years, if you didn’t know those districts were in New York or New Jersey, you’d be sure you were looking at voting results in a deep red state in the heart of Texas or Alabama, as the results are heavily Republican.
August 19, 2017 10:58 pm at 10:58 pm in reply to: Chareidim overwhelmingly voted for Trump, are you satisfied? Any optimism? #1342757JosephParticipantThey were right.
And they’d do it again. And if he’s the Republican candidate next time, the Orthodox will again vote for him.
JosephParticipantI was diagnosed with Clairvoyancy by those greater than I.

August 19, 2017 9:40 pm at 9:40 pm in reply to: Let’s Hock About The Woman On The Bus Who Refused To Move #1342715JosephParticipantSee my previous comment. I addressed that question.
Halachicly there’s no absolute Halacha that men and women have to be separated altogether on pubic transportation. So why aren’t you demanding that the private Jewish buses stop the separation completely?
The answer is that it is a geder to separate them. And when it comes to issues of men and women, Halacha specifically tells us to add more gedorim in this area. And far better to have the men looking ahead at the driver for the 7 hour commute to Montreal (or three hour commute to the Catskills or two hour commute to Lakewood) than for the men to be seeing a bunch of women every time they’re looking up.
August 18, 2017 7:24 pm at 7:24 pm in reply to: Let’s Hock About The Woman On The Bus Who Refused To Move #1342694JosephParticipantGamanit, do you know the reason *why* the Halacha is that men are prohibited from walking behind women? The same reason could easily be applicable to sitting behind them, especially for an extended period of time.
So while I certainly won’t tell you it is an absolute prohibition, once you’re separating men and women on the bus, it makes far more halachic sense and common sense to put the men in front of the women.
JosephParticipantI’m a clairvoyant.

Girls with bad middos brothers.
August 18, 2017 6:30 pm at 6:30 pm in reply to: Let’s just agree to mythologize American history #1342675JosephParticipantWhat about a Jew’s Eved Knani who runs away.
JosephParticipantDidn’t Yushke do some magical stuff to attempt to prove himself and convince Yidden? (Which is why the Beis Din said he was chayiv misa.)
I know this isn’t exactly what you asked about, but thought it to possibly be tangentially related.
August 18, 2017 6:20 pm at 6:20 pm in reply to: Let’s Hock About The Woman On The Bus Who Refused To Move #1342662JosephParticipantYes, a Muslim, privately owned bus company, would have that right.
Secondly, your suggestion of men in back has no legal distinction (in secular law) from women in back. Furthermore, halachicly men shouldn’t be behind women.
JosephParticipantHe asked that it be deleted.
August 18, 2017 6:20 pm at 6:20 pm in reply to: Chareidim overwhelmingly voted for Trump, are you satisfied? Any optimism? #1342661JosephParticipant“Source?”
Look at NY Board of Elections voting results data from majority Orthodox districts in places like Boro Park, Williamsburg, Flatbush, Monsey as well as Lakewood, NJ.
August 18, 2017 5:31 pm at 5:31 pm in reply to: What’s a girl to do if her father is not a Talmid Chacham? #1342621JosephParticipantHer punishment for murder is execution, so she is beheaded and will never have a shidduch.
JosephParticipant“Joseph – yeah, that’s what I thought. ”
I’m glad we concur that all Brits sound the same. 😎
August 18, 2017 4:30 pm at 4:30 pm in reply to: What’s a girl to do if her father is not a Talmid Chacham? #1342587JosephParticipantMost people, if not all, care about how their children’s middos will be. So it is prudent to research her brothers before marrying her, to insure they are baalei middos, so that your children will likely be too — as the Torah tells us.
JosephParticipantWho cares. This is all irrelevant “palace intrigue” that means little to citizens, but gives much space for newspapers and media outlets to fill up stories so they can sell papers on slow news days.
August 18, 2017 4:13 pm at 4:13 pm in reply to: Chareidim overwhelmingly voted for Trump, are you satisfied? Any optimism? #1342580JosephParticipantShe would have lost the popular even without just California OR New York.
But it’s interesting to note that the virtually all the voting districts that have an Orthodox Jewish majority, gave Trump a strong majority of their vote. Literally like deep red states. Even though they are surrounded by districts that voted strongly Democrat.
August 18, 2017 4:07 pm at 4:07 pm in reply to: Let’s Hock About The Woman On The Bus Who Refused To Move #1342569JosephParticipantSyag, ma’am, my filter allows YWN, and the YWN story states, in English, that it’s a woman.
The word I used for her was based on her action and attitude (described), not her appearance.
August 18, 2017 4:00 pm at 4:00 pm in reply to: Let’s Hock About The Woman On The Bus Who Refused To Move #1342565JosephParticipantThe end of the story was that the bus driver called the police and the officers forced that woman and her male friend to leave the bus since the bus owner has the right to decide who he permits on his private bus.
August 18, 2017 3:50 pm at 3:50 pm in reply to: Let’s Hock About The Woman On The Bus Who Refused To Move #1342543JosephParticipantSyag, someone like that who makes a public spectacle to attack tznius and Torah Judaism, and violate the bus owners principles of proprietary and modesty, is not entitled to the assumption of possessing a pintele yid within her.
