November 21, 2016 1:08 pm at 1:08 pm in reply to: Why Are There So Many Seminary Threads??? #1193082YochiPMember
I think this might be one of the most interesting seminary threads! Even though it doesn’t give me much information that I’m looking for 😉
YochiPMemberMy grandmother always read Tzena Urena on Tisha B’Av especially, but also on Shabbos. We are not Chassidish at all, I think it’s just the way things used to be and it’s looked at as continuing the mesorah.
YochiPMemberI heard that they’re really changing for next year! They changed their name to Bais Yaakov Seminar and they even have a new logo.
I actually did not get the impression that they got a bad name, it’s just that there are so many schools that it’s harder for everyone, my friend in a different seminary told me that a lot of seminaries have less girls than they used to.
I’m applying and I’m really excited!!! They’re being very picky with who they’re taking, and they can do it cuz they got lots of applicants. They’re taking only REAL BY type of girls, and highly academic ones!!
They’re also starting a whole program about Bais Yaakov and then taking us to Poland!!! I’m SUPER excited and can’t wait!!!!!!
YochiPMemberYeah, I also heard it and it sounds really amazing!! I heard they’re also going on a Poland trip in the winter. Anyone know anything about this??
I hear they’re being really picky with the people they’re taking 🙁
YochiPMemberI don’t know. There were a few girls who worked with a tutor because their skills were lacking. But it is academic and there is a lot of work. You’ll have to wait for your interview and hope for the best…
YochiPMemberYes, the dorm is open every Shabbos!! (in the weeks that people want to stay, which is usually)
They will also place you if you want to leave and don’t have where to go.
There is a nice amount of work, but not a lot of pressure, meaning, some times there could be more pressure, just because of deadlines but not because the school puts pressure.
Also the schedule is very worked out so they take into consideration when they make deadlines it shouldn’t be the day after a shabbaton etc…
YochiPMemberFirst of all- about the report, it’s not so hard. We wroked hard on it but it’s split into s few deadlines, and we all loved it (because we gained so much from it, not because it was a lot of work 😉 )
The type of girls- good BY girls. Tznius is a top priority.
They care a lot about the girls. Mrs. Flam is always there to listen and help with whatever she can.
The dorm is a very nice comfortable dorm. All the rooms are airconditioned, comfortable and roomy. There is a lounge on each floor with a yummy couch, and a computer for work. DOwnstairs there’s also a computer room for work and emails. The dorm is very homey, everyone gets to know everyone. And the aim bayit is the best!! She cares so much and is always there for you. She soent nights in the emergency room whenever there was girls there (my friend in another seminary was shocked- she told me her friend was in the emergency room by herself and no one was there to be with her and make decisions!!)
Any other questions? 😉 It’s just that I loved it so much I’m happy for other girls to have that experience.
A lot of my friends tell me that when they’re in America, you don’t really know the differences between the seminaries that seem similar. But when you’re in EY, you see it and we all felt like Seminar was just the best!!
YochiPMemberI know. Because it started such a long time ago and switched years in the middle… I’m also a bit confused 😉
YochiPMembermitzvahgirl, it sounds like you might like Seminar. The classes are amazing, there is work but not like a crazy amount. There are quizzes and reports, but I felt like I learned so much from them, it wasn’t like- just research the whole rambam so the teacher can feel like she gave a report, we had a middos report and we all loved it- we learned so much from it!
The dorm is great, with such a good atmosphere. The food is the BEST!!! and it was just so good.
There is not so much pressure in academics (from the other girls) so each girls can excel in her way.
Let me know if you have any questions, I’ll be happy to answer.
