And you definitely shouldn’t get married to someone you think is ugly.

    Chabadshlucha,

I think you’re misunderstanding Rabbi Millers advise.
What does it mean to respect someone?
What does it mean to engage someone?

Rabbi Miller isn’t saying not to act respectfully to them. On the contrary, he tells you to do just that. Not only is he advising you to act respectfully, he’s advising you to do your part to make sure that they genuinely think and believe that your actions to them are respectful in every way.

At the same time, he’s asking that you not join their fraternity.
You are different and you should know it. Not let them know it necessarily, but you should know it.

Now, the problem is that when you engage people on a daily basis their beliefs thoughts and aspirations often seep into your consciousness. As a Torah Jew, the long term effects can be devastating. So what can a Torah Jew do? (say it quickly, it rhymes!)

The answer is to look at them as if they don’t exist. Not to engage them any more than necessary. It doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be polite, on the contrary, its your job to make them feel comfortable. But just that. Going to workplace parties is obviously wrong. Hanging out with them outside of work is also wrong.

You have to know who you are, you have to know what you’re doing is correct, the rest of the world be damned. that’s where the asylum example comes into play.

You have a job to do, you do your job, and you leave.

    1) in terms of child care, please find another school outside of Greenfield District that received that type of money. I’ll settle for even a half a million. It’s not the mayor.
    2) I don’t know the dob issue, please explain
    3) bottom line is that you’re hurting your own self interests if you’re voting against Yeger because of Greenfield. He’s the better candidate by far
    4) he’s father didn’t get very far. Over the past 10(!) years he’s sponsored and passed the following bills:

A05487Provides for the department of health to establish and post signage outlining the importance of hand hygiene in the restrooms, gymnasiums and locker rooms in public

A02679Authorizes Yeshiva Shareh Torah to file an application for real property tax exemption for certain assessment rolls

A08968Requires the sanitation department of the city of New York to provide a photograph of the materials, condition or situation alleged to constitute the violation ( very useful law by the way)

    That’s 3 bills passed. 3
Please tell me again how effective he is.

He’s been in office since 1983.

It was a bit distasteful but as I mentioned earlier, there’s no inherent right to a political post just because you were there last year.
Thinking otherwise leads to laziness and entitlement.

Dov could be doing a better job and would be doing more to secure funding etc if his job is on the line. But it never is
Instead, because of this entitlement, Yeger’s opponent has nothing besides his father’s name.

Thankfully, Yeger seems to be a very nice guy, very approachable. My point is that in order to be able to achieve political success and be able to create and pass laws, political know-how is very IMPORTANT. Yeger has proven to be politically savvy and has worked with many community/political organizations over the years.
Yegers brining his yiddish heart AND his political skills.

Hikends platform is ONLY “I’m a nice guy, vote for me”.

“I’ll learn on the job” shouldn’t be a selling point.

Yoni Hikind has demonstrated his inability to answer single question coherently. His latest interview is actually disturbing.

We should always have choices. No one has the right to a job just because he was there last year. One of the reasons why we’re contemplating Yoni is simply because we don’t have the guts to primary his father. Besides, if the political know-how he learned from his father means never ending up on a committee, no thanks.

But let’s put that on the side, besides for his upbringing, what exactly is he bringing to the table? What are his qualifications?

As others have mentioned, it seems that your wife has to be on board before you make this type of decisions. As others have also mentioned, the divorce rates should not be a factor in this decision.

I was thinking of buying When Zaidy Was Young 3
Since it isn’t an original Kunda production I decided to do some research if it’s worth it.
Unsurprisingly there was a coffee room topic, penned by none other than, Mr interested613, noted that it had “Good impersonations, story, dialogues, songs, music.”

I actually bought the album Sunday based on that thread. I got annoyed when I realize that the thread was created as an advertisement.

This is a very, very serious matter. (Obviously not as serious as the Vegas shooting, but close, a close second.)

    Joseph,
As a judge you have the obligation to enforce the rules of the land.
Separation of powers is what makes America great. Don’t just don’t get to decide to create laws, just to interpret and sometimes reflect on the constitutionality of a law. That’s it.

If he believes he cannot be an American judge because he’s a Christian, he shouldn’t have applied for the job

My Ruv tried working with that model for many years, saying that the usage of a Mikva should be akin to using a siddur.
After having this policy for close to four and a half decades he finally gave up about 5 years ago.
When people were okay with dilapidated mikvahs it was feasible. People today expect a much better experience, including better towels, soap and other amenities. Besides having to rebuild the Mikvah, taking care of it and replenishing it is a costly endeavor.
I forgot the exact figures he told me, but he explained to me that simply washing and replacing the towels cost over a dollar each time someone uses it. And that’s just the towel.

I think Joseph’s point is that by definition, it’s not price gouging. Price gouging would only make sense as an capitalistic endeavor.

Price gouging only works with supply and demand. That’s not the case here.

    Takes two

I have no idea what you’re talking about. Prices are the same throughout the year unless there’s some kind of sort of shortage or something.

    Come to Brooklyn.
In places where people use the Mikva often, the mikva pays for itself throughout the year. When people use it twice a year, they expect the full facility to be waiting for them with limited use. How in the world is it supposed to support itself?

Try getting into a private swimming pool. Let me know what that cost you.

I think Joseph point is a good one.

The question isn’t if this occurred, the question is, is this something to aspire to do. Would Rav Moshe continue this practice in the 80s? After Woodstock?
I think this would be a good question to ask RD or RF, as his children, to explain their father’s thinking. If anyone on this fourm it’s close to them, I think this would be a worthwhile question.

Regardless, our own Rabbi today are very against this practice. This entire conversation is important as intellectual exercise, not for actual practice.
