YITZCHOK2Participant
moishyk: I was told by someone who heard from someone else that the airline seated the kids in different sections of the plane and they literally threw off kids who had no clue what was going on as they were away from the disturbance.( everyone agrees there was some sort of disturbance although the disturbance doesn’t seem much different than the person who sat next to me last time I flew and was told 4 times to shut the phone). That might explain why some kids might of used hyperbole when they called it anti Semitism( although the more I read the comments on cnn the more I realize that anti semtisim still exists) They should have asked one chaperon to get off with the kids who did something wrong and the rest are on there way.
Had they done this my feeling is the kids kicked off would have apologized and then the airline could have determined if they let these kids on another flight or not. It is obvious the airline realized that what the crew did by punishing all was unfair( and maybe illegal) and that’s why they quickly let every kid on the next flight and from what I would assume let every kid return home together on the same flight. ( and gave each kid 2 vouchers )
YITZCHOK2ParticipantWritersoul: If Lakewood is taking the money when they are not entitled to it then they are injuring all the taxpayers in New Jersey. Indeed this is the complaint in the secular press ( and the Jewish media that despises people who learn Torah)
You can’t pick and choose you need to be consistent. You want YOF to apologize even if they aren’t wrong yet Lakewood does not have to?
I am certain that if this was not a coed Yeshivah we would not dare believe one side of the story without hearing the other. If this story happened with a mainstream yeshivah and it hit YWN before it hit CNN every “ASKAN” in Flatbush with the agudah, shomrim, cojo etc would have been at the airport demanding an apology. We would have mobilized every chesed organization to give them food for there 12 hours journey through Milwaukee yet we hear they are “Modern” so we did nothing. Did we even pick up the phone and call the frum people we know in Milwaukee to check them out. No they are modern and if a few kids misbehaved we could care less about them. Let’s be honest the only time we ever reach out to the ” modern” side is when we need there money. In my shul we wouldn’t let a person the amud without a hat( I would assume in yours as well) but by the siyum hashas we let the sponsor say the Kadddish without one because he was a sponsor. You mentioned earlier about chesbonos from hashem I dare say that i doubt he is happy with our response.
YITZCHOK2ParticipantWritersoul it seems like you are repeating many things you have heard in school and applying them in the wrong cases. The catskill newspapers constantly print articles knocking the actions of frum Jews.- should we not go to the catskills or should we just issue an apology every day?
There yeshivah of Lakewood just got a 10 million dollars grant from the government and the press ripped the yeshivah that they received it unfairly. . should the rosh yeshivahs apologize? should they give it back? should they just chas vesholom close the yeshivah so no one says bad?
Every week there is another article blasting the frum people on the school boards in Monsey and Lakewood- should they apologize for sticking up for the frum yeshivahs?
How about the chasidim in Monroe who the secular press knocks that they gain unfair advantages in programs?
Remember you premise is even if we are right we need to apologize! come to think of it the Lakewood story was in many media outlets how come you didn’t demand an apology? How come only YOF? Could it be that they are an easy target for you cause they are a coed high school?
One last question as a student how would you like being punished if your friends did something wrong and you were innocent? I am a parent and I can’t tell you how destructive it is for a child to be punished for something he didn’t do. I was not there so I don’t know what happened but according to the highest account may 10-12 kids did something wrong( my gut feeling is 2 or 3 kids – but we shouldn’t go by gut)why are you are not demanding an apology for the other 90.
If you are honest the right thing to do is call BMG demand they apologize or you call or visit YOF and apologize.
YITZCHOK2ParticipantOne thing we definitely learned from this story and that is that there are unfortunately many Jews who when they see an opportunity to knock another Jew ( or in this case many Jews) they relish the opportunity. It does not matter that they have no idea what really happened, and they have not heard both sides of the story, as long as a Jew can knock another Jew they feel good and holy) ( Maybe they think by pointing out flaws in other Jews they can continue to do all the sins they privately do)
Obviously the anti-semetic remarks on CNN are to be expected but the Jewish community’s hatred to other Jews is embarrassing.
The chillul hashem here is our community’s response. For the sake of the Jewish people I beg theses kids to ignore these hateful comments and if you did nothing wrong do not dare apologize!!!!!!!!
YITZCHOK2ParticipantI would say whatever they do we should the opposite as lets look what they produce!!!!!!!!!!!
YITZCHOK2ParticipantWithout country Yossi and lipa I found it boring and eventually turned it off. I don’t plan on buying tickets next year so I don’t have to listen at all next year. A lot of people I know felt the same way i am not sure why they played with a winning formula.
YITZCHOK2ParticipantGo to Manhattan to bravo!
April 29, 2013 5:58 pm at 5:58 pm in reply to: Letter circulated in Brooklyn about Motzei Shabbos hangouts #950813YITZCHOK2ParticipantIf you think people would give money to it you are dreaming. It doesn’t make you choshuv if you just give money for a motzei Shabbos program ( that might save more lives than many other programs we have) For a number of years there was an awesome program for girls at a bowling alley in the mountains- why did it shut down? Money! It’s very easy to assur – it is very hard to be constructive! I am waiting for the full page banning adds appearing in our papers shortly. This will just be wasted money that could be used for a meaningful program for our kids!
I have a novel idea- how about banning our organizations from running 2 full page adds in the papers telling us all they do for us and use the excess tzedakah funds for our youth!
YITZCHOK2ParticipantJust spoke with someone very close to Rav Abadi shlita who said that any DD donut with cheese in them may not be eaten.( obviously there are no problems with the others)
YITZCHOK2ParticipantRebdoniel- When you make your “chesbon Hanefesh” tonight think about all the ziknei Hador of the past 50 years who spoke about how choshuvh the 45 minutes of a day that a person gives up for the daf is. I doubt you will sleep much tonight as you figure out how to ask mehcila from the gedolim. I doubt someone of your great stature would bother to ask mechilla from the plain folk who are mosser nefesh for the 45 minutes Daf – so for now just ask mechila from the gedolim.
January 23, 2013 1:57 pm at 1:57 pm in reply to: does anybody know if the Hakirah publictions editor is frum? #923818YITZCHOK2ParticipantTo Yeshivish7-you are making up stories. The only orthodox congregations that officially let people drive to shul on shabbos are basically Lubavitch ( obviously hoping down the road that they will eventually start walking).

Call the ou office he works there. The Ben Zaakai society is run by Professor David Luchins ( the dean of Touro college). You should definitely contact your regional director as he has just been moved up to the National office and he should be able to lead you in the right direction. I would assume that both the alumni and the Ben Zakkai society will call him anyway to check you out before they give you any scholarships so you might as well check in with him first and tell him how much you are gaining from your year in Israel and how much more you feel you will gain with another year. GOOD LUCK!

Snowbunny obviously grew up in a much different environment than the girl in your story and the I would assume the need for her gowing to israel was to be able to live as a frum jew.
Snowbunny- I am not sure what you meant by a your remark about a boy not working in yeshiva and a girl having to work in seminary.
My son is in yeshivah in Israel and as it is the third year that I am paying these high tutions and flights back and forth, on his own decided that he does not want to ask me for spending money so he works ( not during seder) for the yeshiva so that i do not need send him money. If you will be going shana bet there is no reason why you cant work a little not during classes to pitch in for some of the costs. Numerous ncsyers both male and female work on pesach programs to help make money so they can continue in yeshivah.
That being said if you are well knwon for winning these awards you should contact bothe the head of the NCSY alumni and the Ben Zakkai society and they should be able to help you arrange some funds for a shana bet. Hatzlacha

YITZCHOK2Participantwith the chillul hashem we just witnessed from “UNZERER” would you wnat people to think you were one of them?
YITZCHOK2ParticipantWhen I was a kid I spent almost every motzei shabbos hanging out at pirchei! While some might think that pirchei was for younger kids if you think about it- what it did was keep all of us teenage leaders constantly busy. Unfortunately Pirchei did not keep up with the change in times and basically in NY it is non existent( yes they still have some programs but it’s just learning programs that no one really cares about)WHAT A SHAME!
November 22, 2012 3:17 pm at 3:17 pm in reply to: Fund to Help With Long Distance Dating Costs #908580YITZCHOK2ParticipantThese comments here are very depressing. A Jew asked for help and instead of giving words of encouragement people had the audacity to knock the person for asking. I don’t care how much clothes you gave people the tzar you caused this girl is unforgivable. Please ask the mod for the person’s direct email so you could ask for mechila you don’t need this hanging over you.
November 13, 2012 6:58 pm at 6:58 pm in reply to: Need Source for Allowing or Not Allowing Teacher to Confiscate Items #906969YITZCHOK2ParticipantThe odds are if the Rebbe confiscated it during class it was causing the student not to learn so you should be ecstatic that he took it away from him. Obviously if it is something that is worth a lot then the Rebbi should make arrangements that you can pick up the item from him. If your child has some issues that would cause him to really be hurt that it was taken away that would change the equation and you should discuss with the Rebbe. Looking for a source either way is a waste of time what you need is what is is best for yoru child’s education. I am sure the Rebbi wants the same thing – if he doesn’t you have a larger issue how can you get a person who does not belong in teaching out of his job. good luck.
YITZCHOK2ParticipantInstead of wasting your time getting upset go bring food to your friend who is hosting that other family. I would assume with the extra mouths to feed they would appreciate your help!
YITZCHOK2ParticipantYou are out of your mind! if thats’s the reason hashem would have built a teiva for the millions of people who live in these affecred areas and don’t support the act!
YITZCHOK2ParticipantTalk to the guy!
YITZCHOK2ParticipantHonesty is the best policy- tell the boy what you are feeling. If he can’t deal with your feelings he is not for you- if he can deal with them he might allay all your fears! Good luck!
October 5, 2012 8:00 pm at 8:00 pm in reply to: Working parent letter: two implementable ideas I posted #899381YITZCHOK2ParticipantEVERY PERSON WHO WORKS IN A SCHOOL IN NO MATTER WHAT CAPACITY MUST GET PAID ON TIME! If we make sure this happens many of the concerns addressed here would be taken care of. If your child goes to a school where teachers are not paid on time try and change your kids school. Should schools start clamoring that they don’t have the resources then parents will demand that the books are opened and once the community is satisfied that there is no nepotism, favortism etc. the community will work hard to raise the money and make the school great.
Once all teachers are paid on time teachers will be glad to put up thir succah at 12 o’clock at night like every other person does. Once teachers are paid on time they will work even harder to come up with a plan to teach the few kids who show up on isru chag. IF WE PAY TEACHERS GREAT SALARIES AND WE PAY THEM ON TIME WE WILL GET ONLY AWESOME TEACHERS AND ALL OF OUR KIDS AND COMMUNITIES WILL BE SO MUCH BETTER OFF!
YITZCHOK2ParticipantWhile not adressing the issur of chalav stam the aruch hashulchan states exactly like Sam2. The aruch hashulchan states that one may only do chumros on aseres ymei teshuvah where it is a chumrah. He writes if there is a machlokes and one side says what you are doing is assur to be machmir is to admit that you were wrong the whole year which you cannot do.
YITZCHOK2ParticipantTo thinking hard if the story about your friend is true he should go see a therpaist asap!
